1. Because LS projectiles derive their damage from the melee hit, it only makes sense for the projectiles to always deal less damage than the melee hit.
2. I don't see your point about the double standards. If anything, I only see consistency being maintained between melee component and ranged component.
Str is meant to affect melee physical damage not ranged physical damage. If you want Str to affect ranged physical damage, take Iron Grip.
Also, Str and melee physical damage nodes are not as great for LS projectiles as you think. Remember, LS projectiles are 50% physical and 50% lightning. You wouldn't get that much of a boost from Str/melee physical damage.
Multistrike affects both the ranged component and melee component in exactly the same manner. It grants both a damage penalty with MORE attack speed. There is no double standards here. This support grants both components the exact same benefit for the exact same penalty. Str and melee physical damage not granting LS projectils incr. physical damage is irrelevant to this context.
That would be correct if the gem actually said "50% Melee physical converted to lightning damage"
But what it actually says is "50% physical converted to lightning damage"

I'm not really getting what you mean I'm afraid, but what you said proves my point though.
50% physical converted to lightning damage.
Melee hit - gets additional bonuses applied from Str and Melee Phys Nodes
Ranged - does not get the bonus.

Yes the ranged does not get the bonus because it's Ranged physical so of course the way it's handled now it wont get the -40% melee dmg because that was never in the equation.
It handles the melee weapons dmg like it would on a bow or a wand.

Exactly! The way it's handled now it indeed does not get the -40% melee damage. Hence therefore, the -40% melee damage wording on the gem will be changed. Did you really expect to get a free boost to attack speed without any penalty?

Quick to nerf, slow to buff isn't a practice that makes me want to play.
Just keep playing :) The more you play, the more feedback you can give which can help in buffing this support. The thing is, the quick to nerf and slow to buff philosophy is best. Reason being that in being quick to nerf, the devs minimise the number of people being affected by it, and in taking their time to buff, they can come up with a well-balanced permanent buff which need not be nerfed again and which players can enjoy with a sense of security, instead of having to worry about it being nerfed again. CI is a fine example.
If this were a broken build that unbalanced the game, I'd agree that swift fixes are necessary. However, I can't see how it is any more powerful than current lightning arrow builds... in fact, given the state of melees currently, I'd say it's arguably weaker even with the current multistrike functionality.
Anyways, it's too much of a struggle for me. I got hacked and lost almost everything - a summoner decked in uniques, my old marauder, a stockpile of currency, etc. I came back, made a new character to start over, and pursued an LS/Multistrike build. I'm already struggling due to the vulnerability of melee, and the build is being nerfed. GGG won't restore anything stolen, my one new character is being nerfed, and I really don't want to start all over again. Searing Bond, Incinerate, and Melee Splash all seem hugely underwhelming right now, and I really don't want to make the same old generic characters I've played before. I'll probably check back in a few months and see what they do with melee, but for now, it's just too depressing.

No of course not that is not what I meant.
What I was picking at is that it's a Nerf not a bugfix. As the gems clearly does what they say they do :)

CI is a fine example of just how poorly this has worked out. The problem for CI since forever has been very high susceptibility to status effects and stun. And now, a while after the CI buff that basically involved giving more ES to a build that could already stack tons of ES, most CI players still regard the Eye of Chayula as absolutely mandatory.
People can argue all they want about what the skill was MEANT to affect and so on, but the fact is that LS+Multistrike in its current form isn't overpowered. It's merely decent. It's good enough to be efficient in the endgame. It's still worse than most of the cookie cutter exilepro builds, even in its current "broken" state.

I understand :) respect to you for being able to keep trucking on despite the hacks/setbacks! Enjoy your break, and be sure to check back! Or maybe just play in races for now and accumulate free points for some free items :)
