Lightning Strike Multistrike Bugfix Incoming

I also want to point out how GGG has failed the fundamental ARPG test despite all their assertions that they're longtime fans of the genre. They've developed a game where there is a massive gulf of power between ranged and melee. To the point where ranged is the only viable gameplay option and melee lags behind with uninspired fixes, overzealous nerfs and lags behind untouched FotM caster builds.

You have a game where the MARAUDER carries bows and wands. Sweep is a leveling tool at best, leap is a gimmick, LS is apparently a projectile spell and infernal blow is a death sentence.
If Lightning Strike required the User to walk up to the Target and hit him (in Melee-range) and Then the lightning projectiles would lash out at three+ different directions (hitting other targets in the process),
THEN it would be a true Melee-Attack, with the same risks as the other Melee-attacks (Infernal Blow, Glacial Hammer, Heavy Strike etc)

Before OB, melee was extremely viable. Before Chain was added near the end of CB, even more so. For a while the game was even derided as Path of Melee.

I have no doubts that GGG will fix melee survivability issues and bring them back up to par with ranged as they were in the past.

Anyway, that's fairly off-topic. This so-called nerf affects only the ranged portion of Lightning Strike. It doesn't affect actual melee builds at all.
Well, it's offical. Next Patch is changed "Less Melee Damage" to "Less Attack Damage".

I guess it's time to roll Freeze Pulse or Lightning Arrow since those seem to be the only builds you're actually allowed to play in this game.

Thanks GGG

Clearly, this is an example of devs not knowing how their own mechanics work. Back to FP...

We hyperbole now?
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.

The only problems melee have in this game is desync, if there was no desync "smart" melee could be played and stacking life would be less mandatory, in return the good physical nodes could be taken and the ranged vs melee damage debate would be over( since clearly physical scales way higher then elemental damage if it was "viable" in current content)

I quote myself, because it makes sense.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes
Rather make LS melee only than nerfing multistrike - no lightning if melee doesn't hit

This.
You go to merc Sarn and you see Marauders, this game's signature melee class, carrying wands and bows. How that does not SCREAM to GGG devs how utterly shitty melee is as a end-game option, I don't know.

I remember watching the closed beta vids, before I started playing, of Chris Taylor playing as a freeze pulse/ice totem Templar and I was thinking to myself, this game is gonna be very generous to freeze casters. Generous is an understatement. The one dev vid I watched of a dev playing a marauder. They got their ass kicked and failed the map miserably. haha

-Lighting Strike is only *half* lightning converted. So the current melee reduction already applies to it, w/o nerfing it further. So don't pretend there is no reduction already and MS is a free triple-hit "gimme" for LS w/o draw-backs. Armor scales, and a 40% melee reduction is more like a 60 or 70% reduction when you account for armor ammount vs dmg absorption via scaling. Kripp's got a spreadsheet that shows this well.
-Multistrike already has a whopping 180% mana multiplier cost, so you have to blood magic it to use it w/ pure melee (if there is such a thing).
-LS already has a 30% DAMAGE reduction on projectiles.
-LS projectiles don't track, and can't be shot over ledges, stairs, or through doors [accurately] like caster skills. And almost always miss.
-LS projectiles do not stack on a single target like freeze pulse. So you don't get the 5000dps x 5 like you can w/ the Kripp clone.
-LS projectile spray can not be concentrated by aiming farther away like freeze pulse, fireball, etc.. The angle-arc is so wide, it's almost useless far away, unless you use chain or gmp, gimping the damage further.
-LS projectiles travel out the back of a melee target. So you hit w/ the melee portion, then the projectiles fly out the back, wildly and un-aimed. Yes, you can shift spam and use it ranged. But for best effect, you face-tank and roll the dice.

Does this really need to be nerfed further??

Like any1 here takes to consideration Kripp's opinion. He is only best theorycrafter/mechanics ideologist and season ladder pros. He has completely no idea what he is talking about! Chris should never ask beta testers how things work and whats is fukd by developers!
