When someone's at your door or cat broke a pot, you TP out. It's also safer.

But I'm fairly sure you don't logout when it happens, but when you are about to die as you did something stupid or shit just hit the fan.

That's not what hardcore is supposed to be.

why would you keep a cat

Fixed for you

one reason

the girl that owns the kitty is really hot
I dont see any any key!
It's not a big deal, OP. As for the abusers of such practice, if you took instant log out away from them, they'd find other ways to handle such situations. A dev even admitted that some of the devs use this tactic. So it's probably not going to go away.

Best part is that people don't even realise that memory reading is not bannable simply coz ggg cant see it thus most of these are auto logouts when below x% of hp/surrounded by y ammount of mobs.

You seem to know a little too much about that for a casual interest, lol?

Streamers? Who cares about them? On that note, either Chris or Carl (Qarl) mentioned that the HC players at the top of the leaderboard don't use any macro for logging out instantly. Note: this was a while ago, so who knows now? Perhaps GGG has been tracking it quietly for a while?

This is a really easy thing to say from the sidelines, but here's the answer. If it were removed, people would still play HC just a lot more cautiously. It might affect the meta some. A lot of completely unavoidable deaths would occur because of crazy critical bad luck situations like a tormented version of your worst rogue exile popping up in a bad moment. Maybe some people would quit because you literally can't be prepared in HC anymore.

Yet, as long as macros are present, choosing not to use one amounts to a purposeful self-handicap. Competitive leagues and all, certain types of people will always make the most efficient choice.

I'd be fine if they removed instant logout, as long as they don't do the things that blizzard did with rifts to make the logout timer acceptable. And again, that's what Chris totally doesn't want: if they implement logout timers, he's made it clear they'd also go back and sanitize unpredictable edge cases. Notice in D3 rifts, the entire map clears when you spawn the boss? Or that there's nothing different from one zone to another except how much O/D scaling the mobs get? That defenses are completely linear, and it doesn't matter terribly much from situation to situation which stats you're building around?

If the game didn't allow you to drop instantly then we'd have to dumb down the fights so much. We've tried it.

You get one or the other: a game with with variety and unpredictability, or a game that forces yolo gameplay. They're not willing to do both, and though this quote is old they've given us no indication that they're changing their minds. GGG's choice to make.

I suppose what I'm really disappointed about is how it takes so long to come to this realization: this issue is impossible to switch direction on without turning PoE into an entirely different game. You don't start to understand this until you've put a lot of hours into hardcore, and most of the commentary on the issue overall comes from either more casual HC players or players who won't touch HC "because it's not hardcore enough".

So basically the logout thing becomes just an opportunity for some not-so-HC players with a beef to parade a sense of superiority over the very-HC playerbase. And they never miss a beat.

I don't play hardcore, but I understand the need for logout.

If they didn't have log out, majority of players would never attempt hard content in HC. It would be boring for them as an experience.

If I know Shaper does 8K hits and I have 7K I won't even take the chance if I was "trapped" in the fight. This gives players an opportunity to take risks and not shackle them to "easy" content.

Sure there would be the few Kripp's (old kripp) of the world that would still play and try to dominate the league without logout, but 99% of the players would just be watching on twitch rather than play the game lol.

I don't play hardcore at all because i don't like online connections for games with hardcore...nor do i like starting over if I die on accident or lag. I still build like i'm playing hardcore...just don't play hardcore lol.

I like not dying even in softcore. :)

Same, I always try not to die, even in softcore. Have gotten several characters to lvl90 deathless without too much slowballing.

Being forced to use mobile internet, I like that logout is an option, even in softcore. If I notice a connection failure I logout instantly rather than eat that 10% exp penalty.

GGG does not ban for multi-boxing, provided you're manually controlling the characters. Or was this in another game?
