XP loss makes me want to stop playing.

I think GGG said that they don't want people to reach lvl 100 yet. Guess this is one of their methods?

Makes sense. Doing the maths above made me realise that you cannot ever reach 100 on softcore if you die more than once or twice post level 90. Or at least it would take years. Must be to keep us away from 100. This ensures when Act 4 comes we won't all over-level it and complain. ANd the mobs in Act 4 will be worth much more Exp. Makes sense, sadly.
Did you know level 91 is the halfway point to level 100? This means that a softcore character dying ONCE at level 85+ can lose many days of progress.
The XP loss actually somehow motivates me to play this game.

Now that i'm getting closer to level 80 i press myself in the chair and get concetrated when my HP drops to minimum amount. Sometimes i even stop breathing for a short amount of time because i get that excited. It's somehow an adrenalin rush and i don't rush through and area or in large groups because of it. It makes me play this game in a tactical way.

In my opinion it would be boring to not loose anything significant when you die.
I play in the default league and i personally think it should stay the way it is.

Have a great time! :)
Dont remove the xp penalty, seriously i know its beta and you can give feedback, but that is terrible feedback.
They wont remove it nor should they lower it.

Losing 15 percent after level 80 does hurt a bunch but at least we can die and come back to life.

Yup, GGG needs to get rid of death penalty from normal. They can create a cut throat league with FFA and death penalty and PvP.
There needs to be a penalty for death.
I also loose any motivation when I die in PoE, actualy, I hate it in every Game because I want to play perfect. ^^"
And in PoE it's ~90% because of lags and desyncs so as long as GGG has not solved this (and we know this can take a while) they should rethink the 15% XP penalty because it is not fair to punish players for bugs in the game. I guess many deaths in PoE are desync/lag/rubberbanding releated, would be interesting to see some stats. :D

@"Glasscanon":
However, it's clear that you should not use a "glass canon" in PoE but the problem is, no matter how much armour, resists and Life you have, in PoE you are actualy ALWAYS a glass canon. ;) Armour means nothing, Resists means basicly not much more (My Marauder has 80% all resists and 4K life but even crappy little Voidbearers 10 level lower than him cann kill him in seconds if he is not fast enough. Evasion maybe some but my Marauder can't evade at all so no clue about this mechanic.
Is it even possible to "outlevel" the mobs in this game? :D In other games like this, mobs are not even supposed to touch you anymore without your permission if they are lower level than you. PoE somehow ignores that completely and much more. Chaos damage? Who invented this? Not counted to "all resists", only bareley managable through some passives and the very controversial CI skill. Otherwise you are never save for chaos dmg, feels very weird.
Mobs of course can have resists and immunities against everything - I always call them cheaters and cheaters have to die. ;)

So you will die sooner or later, you can't outlevel or get immune, you always have to play careful and sometimes not even this is enough because if you don't kill yourself, the game does with desync and co.

Respect for players that have the nerves to play hardcore under these circumstances, I NEVER would do this because then I would die on a heart attack after my chara has died. Again, I hate it to die and it's punishment enough for me to die, I don't need extra XP loss. I even get in rage mode when I die in Diablo 3 softcore, so you can imagine what would happen when I would die in PoE hardcore. :D

So... you didn't notice that you died to reflect the first or second time? Must be bad mechanics...

The XP loss is so damn over the top.

I was having fun playing today, all of a sudden for the first time ever in the game I hit a mob that has reflect don't notice, die 3 times and wow there goes half an xp bar at level 61 that took about 1 hour to get gone in 15 seconds, CLOSE GAME, sigh.

I just can't play this game after loosing one hours xp in 15 seconds as much as I do love this game.

i lost my level 75 EA to a reflect mob in a -20% res map... honestly you lost one level i lost 75levels. get over it

It is my pleasure.
There needs to be some penalty for dying but honestly, I too think it's a little ridiculous. Yeah, yeah I get it. Don't die, go play hardcore, blah, blah, blah. It sucks being stuck farming 67-69 maps hoping and praying you get a higher level map so you can get more then 1% exp per run. The death penalty wouldn't be bad if you could actually make back that experience in a timely manner. You hit like 85 and you can do probably 30-50 maps before you can make back the 15% exp you lost from one mistake or desync. Upping the drop rate of maps, maybe raising the exp you get from maps, something. I understand they don't want people "beating" the game 2 months into the beta, it's a game for "hardcore gamers" and that's it's "still a beta" as every fan boy wants to point out, but it would be nice to have something done. Now OP complaining at level 61 about the exp loss when he probably gets 10% exp a run, that's another story.
