XP loss makes me want to stop playing.

I just got into merciless and I gotta say at least that difficulty's exp loss is over the top at the very least.

With all the things wrong with the game (like lag and desync), 15% is way too much compared to Cruel.

I could live with Cruel's exp loss, really. Even with all the cheap or just plain broken stuff with the game, but losing an hour's work because the server had a hiccup (which it apparently has a huge case of), it makes me just sit in town, say "fuck it" and close out and find another game.

It's not fun, it's hardly challenging.
You're still in the 60s. It's real fast to get that xp back. You should be able to get 45% back in under 40 minutes. Run the forest. Assuming your character is strong you can get 6-8% in under 3 minutes. Ledge is still sorta viable. Get into a good docks group you should receive 12-15 xp every 5-6 minutes.

It's a game. Have fun with it. So you died. Just keep plugging. It is a grinding game after all.
The same mechanic exists in every ARPG game ever made....either get over it or go play BF/COD. It will not change nor should it. YOU ARE NOT ENTITLED TO GET YOUR WAY. Learn that fact and your gonna have way less issues with your life.
It's almost mind blowing that someone could complain about losing some XP for dying when a portion of us are just straight up completely rerolling in HC from a death.

The OP is confusing though.. you died 3 times in a row to the same mob group? If so than thats ridiculous. Any level of thought process put into your options after the first death would of kept it at 1 death.

In general, a common theme of complaints is people getting themselves in trouble for playing lazy and than blame game mechanics for their laziness.

As long as the complaint threads remain "I put zero effort into trying to figure it out and still wanted to be rewarded" than I don't see how constructive criticism can work with these types of players.

The fact is you can't play the game in a lazy fashion and expect to be rewarded. The only constructive criticism you can give someone who wants to play like this is to try to put more effort into game. Some people simply don't want to play like this because they just got done getting home from work and the last thing they want to do is work again at trying to have fun.

At some point you need to look at these complaints realistically. This game isn't going to be enjoyable for someone who isn't willing to work hard at staying alive. While the posts that say l2p noob are off putting they are pretty much spot on. Put more effort and thought into how to stay alive and you'll do fine. If you want to play lazy, look elsewhere.

Xp loss is frustrating but a key feature in the game. Teaches the player to adjust play style. Sure my char is only level 49 but i still hit a tough mob every once in a while so i run in, pull some out then repeat. If i die then shit... try something different.

So stop whining...

This game FORCES YOU TO NOT GO GLASS CANNON.

Sooner people realise this the better.

DO NOT GO GLASS CANNON

DO NOT GO GLASS CANNON

DO NOT GO GLASS CANNON

DO NOT GO GLASS CANNON

DO NOT GO GLASS CANNON

Yeah meaning tanks have it 5x easier than everyone else.

It's just a stupid way to go about punishing people for dying, there is a reason no other game dare use this method as it causes a lot of people to stop playing characters at a certain point and pushes them away from playing the game.

I agree in punishment but a person can loose a full xp bar in 2 minutes and that is just over the top.

Why do we need to never ever die if it's not hardcore? Why shouldn't I challenge my self and for fun play solo for some thing different?

Oh wait no I should be massively punished and forced to play it safe, yeah because that's more fun.

You shouldn't loose more than one xp bar for dying.

You want some help? Uninstall this game, its not for you

And you know what? You are right. You have to learn to adapt to play the game as if you were playing in the hardcore league. I think that's the frustrating truth.

That is just dumb. If I wanted to play like an HC (pussyfooting about only taking on fights I expect to win) that I'd have picked hardcore. I picked defualt because I want to take on fights I expect to LOSE. Far more satisfying.

that 15% XP loss is literally close to the average dead HC character? Do you understand what I'm saying here? What if I hit level 90, and I die a couple of times... causing basically an 8 hour loss of time. What is the average DEAD HC character level?

Having called your point above dumb, I now have to say....this is a brilliant point which I will be making in every HC-related thread from now on.

btw level 91 is the halfway point to 100, so if you die just short of 91, the 15% is closer to several weeks of play.

In fact doing the maths quickly (and probably getting it wrong, but hey) an HC character dying at 70 is less of a loss than a softcore dying ONCE at level 85, in terms of time invested now lost.

Read it an weep HC babies, softcore death is MORE penalising. Heh

Softcore is the new hardcore, I said it weeks ago.

EDIT: man that's going into my sig (with better maths)
Did you know level 91 is the halfway point to level 100? This means that a softcore character dying ONCE at level 85+ can lose many days of progress.

I think GGG said that they don't want people to reach lvl 100 yet. Guess this is one of their methods?
