In two weeks PoE will have less STEAM players than at the end of last leagues

Some people are playing ROS, others Dark Souls II or even different kind of games.
I guess it´s normal, every game has a duration, none can last forever. Probably POE will be played for a year or two yet.

Back to CB days? Can't wait!

That would be awesome, if they also roll back their changes since then. The game was simply better.
No. Calm down. Learn to enjoy losing.

This is me. Between those two I don't have much time for PoE right now. I still lurk and keep up on things, but just can't justify the PoE grind right now with better options.

People's obsession with whether games are "dying" is such a fascinating phenomenon. I'd like to write a paper on it some day.

I mean, I can understand people having issues with individual PoE leagues losing players. That makes progression in gear more difficult, particularly in Hardcore leagues.

People seem to be very passionate about the game. Even if it's tsundere pashion, it's still a good sign for GGG that people actually care a lot for their game.

Btw requesting a good English word for tsundere, I feel stupid using it outside of anime topics. Any suggestions, Charan?

Seconded. Players are shifty bunch that fluctuates and that is totally normal.
I've just recently dived in the dark souls and holly shit it's a mighty badass game :)

What IS important is that game is getting "new blood" input regularly, that word is spreading about game quality and that new users arrive daily.

And I would say that what is also important is good carrot vs club game fun ratio, together with learning curve - on that field I am afraid PoE does not stand too well. That's why so many ppl haven't even killed brutus - they come, try it and find it too complex and too difficult. PoE is good game but it's not very approachable.

And ofc new content to add fun and not to destroy balance. Personally I think all this new invasion + vaal things should be much more rarer in game not to feel too tedious.

if you play the game via the PoE client, my guess is you are a bit more vested in playing the game

That is, of course, your opinion. Absolutely no reason for anyone to think it's accurate in the slightest.

Do you use Steam? I'll bet you do. Does that make you a "gamehopper"?

Edit: Sorry, just saw this. I win.

Just to be clear: these numbers prove only one thing. Introducing new crap alone will not keep players. Not if the base gameplay experience is fundamentally flawed. Be it desync, SFL, whatever.

I do use steam, I also own 100+ games most of which I've played 10minutes of. So yea I hop around on games on steam.

Without any actual data showing the relation of client based users to steam users, you are just interpreting the data in the way it suits to make your argument, if you remove the game hoppers from steam from the steam numbers (players that barley get 20-30min into the game), then you can see the trend is not even close to as bad. Publicity creates a momentary bump on steam for alot of games, this is a niche game it is never going to have 30k concurrent users for a long period of time.

If this games numbers start picking up its more likley because GGG starts compromising their core principals and catering to the masses. Which would actually ruin the game for me and alot of people that like the game as is. Which is more important to me than commercial success of the game.

Sure are there things that drive me nuts that need to be fixed like desync, 100percent. Would it go a long way to making people happy, probably. But I don't know that fixing desync makes this a 30k concurrent user game. A shift in the numbers to that effect would probably mean that they are doing things that change what this game is and in this market it means making loot drop from the skies and giving everyone phat loot for next to no effort.

This game isn't dieing it was probably exposed to alot of players that it wasn't meant for, that is what the numbers show more than anything else.

As long as the core player base stays range bound the game will be fine.

Sorry to say it in brutal way to OP: Your numbers from steam are completeley bullshit.

Steam is mainly for players hopping a lot among games and naturally a game that has been pushed few months ago now seems to be dead. Steam has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with original servers .

No, I am absolutely not an all-swallowing-sans-critique-blind-addict-nolifer-following-the-carrot-Fanboy. In opposite. This game got more serious problems than the haters found already and serve us everyday in the forums. (while these critiques are still very viable)

BUT: PoE got as much fascination as it got problems, no dought about that.

BUT: It is really, really time the devs open their eyes and go for solutions of the main points, in my opinion:

- Technical Probs: Tell people which GraCa they can use to have the best game experience
in win32
- If there should be technical problems that cannot be solved within the next 2 months
(Dominus and Vaal areas FPS) please tell people the truth and ask them to come back
later!!
- Fix your RNG-----NOW!!!!
- Say the full truth about desync---- cause things become worse with every patch you do.

So, staying ontopic for OP: Your numbers don´t count, I get my numbers from other - more reliable internetsources - and these numbers tell me there is a serious problem, causing more players to leave than to start. But still the absolute numbers of players is on a stabile level. PoE got a pretty good international crowd of fans who will keep the game going for the next times. If the devs ( HEY, CHRIS !!!!!) will wake up and react to their players as they did before.

It's true that this game will fall simply cause of it's design issues and the inconsistency of the whole project.

They also promised, over-hyped ( the media ) this game was the "saint grial", the Diablo2 continuation, and it's NOT !!!!! Marketing-wise it's a big spoof !!!!

Diablo was thousands of times better designed. I bought a new computer just to play POE ( I don't play any other game but Diablo 2 ) and I was MASSIVELY disappointed after playing for about 5 months and supporting the game with money.

Face it guys, this game is a one shot festival. Even if you can take the one shots and unfairness, unrewarding gameplay ... At the end it's not fun and its design makes it boring and dull. You will NEVER retain the average playerbase, period.

As someone said before, "high difficulty is one thing, and bad design is another"

Who wants to suffer and feel pain while playing a game ? No one I think. You are not addicted anymore. You become addicted to something when it's really GOOD, even if it's difficult! Just like with good drugs, it's exactly the same. Now think why people leave ?

Maybe they will retain the ultra hardcorian no-lifer playerbase ... how many players is that ?

That's how I feel, at least now I'm back to Linux and I can use my computer to compile faster.
