Your game might be broken when....
So you are saying that because some bosses are in short "figure me out quickly or I will melt your face" that the difficult is artificial? I thought to myself as I got up this morning if Invasion would have the same negative feedback if the leagues were switched. Ambush was the HC league and Invasion was the SC league. Dying in a SC league is much less punishing and people accept it much easier. Would people be as upset about the difficulty if they didn't fall off the ladder for dying to a random boss?
You can kill all of these bosses on normal, which I'm sure would be a lot more forgiving than trying to figure them out on merciless. These bosses do add something new to the game, combinations of skills players have never seen before and some straight up new ones. Corrupted areas are training maps for maps(ha). If you can clear a corrupted area with turbo mod, then odds are you can clear a level appropriate map with turbo mod at endgame. |

Artificial difficulty is difficulty purely from tuning of numbers. E.g. you need a certain level of gear and this content becomes trivial, or e.g. you simply have to avoid this bit or you're instagibbed (e.g. a binary decision).
Actual difficulty is difficulty that adds some nuance to the gameplay. They introduce entirely new mechanics or test your skills beyond simply binary decisions. They offer new and exciting mob AI, for instance. Creating actual difficulty is much harder than creating artificial difficulty. It's easy to overtune some numbers. It's hard to make something new, exciting, and challenging. And I don't feel corrupted zones are good training for maps for the simple reason that corrupted bosses tend to be much, much harder than most map bosses. |

" GMP lightning totems on an shocked ground already area? In a tight corridor? Everything that could go wrong went wrong in this situation. |

" LOL. You have never fucking even encountered Ch'aska and you are talking mad shit about how other player should be able to beat it. The boss has a rage mode, attacks absurdly fast, has crazy damage, has insane range, and moves fast as shit all on top of a decent HP pool. And she's surrounded by other mobs that actually do decent damage and can cut off areas of retreat also. Saying that this boss isn't artificially difficult is hilarious as fuck. And no, if Ch'aska with a haste aura would murder you. All her abilities come down faster with a haste aura. Just stop, you are clearly an inexperienced player in Invasion or have never played it, otherwise you wouldn't be saying half the shit you're saying. " It's a fucking shocked ground map. They barely saw the boss for half a second and they were dead. The only way to escape this is with an instant logout macro the second you see the boss. " You missed the points I was trying to make with these. Alt+f4 isn't the problem. I was commenting on the fact that only players with exceptionally fast logout speeds will survive in Invasion. It was targeted at the difficulty of the league not the game mechanic of alt+f4 Fearing some of the monsters is different than fearing a random death from an offscreen monster that you never saw. This was a comment on the fact that it is like winning the lottery when you get an easy unique early in a map. It allows you to run the rest of hte map at a much lower stress level. I was not commenting on the variance in difficulty of the bosses. I agree they should be varied. |

" They are just bad players who make a horrible misplay. I mean, sure, the boss was off-screen when the first totem gets summoned, and he is standing within a group of other vaal fallen within a dark room, but he is slightly larger than the other mobs. They should have seen him anyways. On top of that, they are just mindlessly rushing ahead instead of cursing the edges of their screen with enfeeble before taking another step forward. There was a patch of shocked ground, they should have abandoned the map instead of moving over it. He has 4.7k HP, all 4 purity auras and arctic armour, it's obvious that he isn't properly prepared. Seriously, the boss is totally balanced, they had enough possibilities to avoid those deaths. They could have spent their time theorycrafting instead of playing, for example. |

" Honestly that video pretty much sums up why I'm playing a SC league for the first time in a year. Most bosses are ok but any boss that has the ability to hit from such a far range needs downtuning. You should be able to see a boss if they're going to hit that hard. Totem summoning boss/maker of rain/rima/haviri(shown in vid)/judgement apparatus all need a second look. That alched map was pretty much one of the easiest yellow maps anyone can do so please no lectures about standing on shocked ground. |

" This is pretty much 'malboro vs behemoth' in FF titles. For most of the game you run away as son as you spot malboro, because you can't do a fucking thing against it at that point. But after you are able to get anti-status gear he's a pushover, so malboro isn't difficult, he's a gearcheck that's pretty much impossible until you check it. On the other hand, behemoth is fast, hits hard and can use both attacks and spells to great effect. But you don't run from him, he's more difficult than malboro but you always have a sporting chance with him. Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

2500 hitpoints, 77 res all in Act 2 Cruel - just ripped to Vaal Metalsmith with my first build ever that had 0 damage-related nodes. It happened in about one second, the totem appeared in my face and I just died, plain and simple. There was no time or possibility to do anything about it.
I was fat enough to do not a2 cruel, but a3 merciless content in softcore. This is beyond stupid. Wasn't desync, it just melted me with damage that would have been completely out of tune in merciless, not in cruel. You have to be realistic about these things.
