It's frustrating how good Bringer of Rain is.
For my build once I (self found) a BoR I really had to change a lot around in my setup to fit in. I lost a lot of resists, armor and health to make it work in my build. I lost about 500 HP 5000 armor, but was able to make up resists with some gear swaps.
I think its worth it though because it gave me a nice DPS boost, but I play softcore so dying doesnt really matter so I can use the more DPS oriented approach. If I was playing HC I don't think I'd go with the BoR and kept the tankier rares on. R.I.P. my beloved P.o.E.

15% block
20-30 flat phys dmg off-weapon up to 1600 armor with IR gives you a 7 link attack endurance charge on block more life than most people get on their helms/armors combined i switched to a 'pro' 6L armor + helm yesterday to test it out.. life dropped, armor skyrocketed and damage was cut in half keep your BoR, its gonna turn legacy :) "Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds." " If your damage dropped I doubt you were using all lvl 20 gems. The endurance charge on block is hardly even worth mentioning and your life shouldn't drop that much if your helm and chest had high rolls on life. Standard Forever

" I like how you mention IR and call it a 7L in the same breath, and expect to be taken seriously. 7L is irrelevant with IR, unless you think 0 Eva + blind is going to help you evade attacks. A 20/20 melee phys and faster attacks will always be better on a 6L chest + extra secondary / support skills on helm. Life is barely any better than a good chest + helm. I've never noticed any significant use of EC even on a max block build. EC or ECoStun is always distinctly better, and who cares about EC from BoR when you're always at max charges? Maybe it synergizes well with WLM, I dunno. The off-slot flat phys, while nice, is unnecessary if the rest of your gear is decent-or-better. You mentioned nothing about your resists, and I dispute exactly how "pro" your chest + helm were if life "skyrocketed." If you lost half of your damage, then the rest of your gear is shit or you're built specifically lacking damage elsewhere and failed to give the respec an honest shot. The block chance. Oh yeah, the block chance is damn nice! BoR is a super good unique, but it is a far, far, far cry from Ancestral PA RF abuse, +1k life x 250% increased, or free attacks + above average dps and max auras. BoR is above par when it's the only good item you have equipped. It is sub par when you're fully equipped in GG gear, exception being FB which benefit insanely from all the flat phys they can get their hands on. It is right on the fine line where good, well designed end game uniques should be. Devolving Wilds Land “T, Sacrifice Devolving Wilds: Search your library for a basic land card and reveal it. So sick of the blood-spurting hair-do's in town.
How to balance BoR: Requires Level: 87 Done. |
![]() |
BoR is perfectly balanced,
it's a 6l ( because who the fuck uses blind or build eva base with a bor ) lvl 18 faster attacks/Melee physical, good for free gems, but you can't 20% them or get them to lvl 20 so a 6L with gems wins that. Pro's 200+ life, good rolls, Added physical, good roll, Cost of a 6l for 2 gear items 15% block, great for reaching block cap Con's No resist on 2 gear pieces 1k-1500 less base armor 2 gems under leveled and cannot be quality 10% chance to get a endurance charge on block, Meh unless your block capped your better off with a enduring cry. So overall seems balanced to me. Twitch.tv/Nithryok

" Actually, IR leaves you at a 5% chance to evade. since that is the default evasion rating for every character not specced into US. What leaves you at 0 Eva is US. So, Blind is still extremely useful melee that has not specced into US and has very good amount of attack speed. With 5% chance to evade, if you proc Blind, the chance the mobs can hit you to is 24% (23.75% technically) based from your evasion. Blind + Enfeeble (excluding the accuracy part since Blind pretty much hogged all of the accuracy portion) is great combination against physical bosses, especially Kole, Blacksmith, and to some extent Dominius which they will miss very often. I think for any build not aiming for full block, BoR is sorely overrated. No, seriously. If you're not going for block, you can almost always get more life, more armor, more evasion, and more resists from even a high-tier helmet+armor (okay, maybe not more life, but the difference is marginal and keeps getting smaller as the gear keeps getting better and better). Even in the case of Facebreakers, you're usually simply better off running Abyssus and a solid chestplate - not least because Abyssus is double the damage and lets you use your chest to soak up the resists that are so hard to get on your jewelry.
The only problem with BoR is 1H block builds with full block and Aegis. And then, yeah, it is pretty overpowered. But at that point you have uniques that scream "endgame", you still need a really, really good one-hander, you still need to spec AR/ES and have pretty decent hybrid gear (especially sans chest), you're pretty much stuck throwing a Stone of Lazwhar in your amulet slot, making it even harder to shore up your resists. Or am I off base? Luna's Blackguards - a guild of bronies - is now recruiting! If you're a fan of our favourite chromatic marshmallow equines, hit me up with an add or whisper, and I'll invite you!

" I will still take Bringer of Rain over Abyssus any day because blind is one hell of a defensive support gem if it is used correctly. It is still extremely useful for melee builds. While Abyssus may double my damage, I mostly focus on balance of reaching a point I can kill quickly, but without any worries of reflect. I already reached that point with my BoR+FB build. Bringer of rain is only overpowered because block builds are so far above everything else you can be doing defensively.
