It's frustrating how good Bringer of Rain is.

This applies to several other uniques as well, but BoR seems to be the biggest culprit to me, because it seems to be just about the most expensive unique in Nemesis (where I play.) I know that it's not BiS for EVERY build - it's terrible in quite a few - but for a huge number of builds, it's not only the BiS helmet, it's BiS helmet plus armor.

I know, I know - qqq, I'm poor. The reason it's frustrating, though, isn't just because it's an ultra-powerful unique, but that it's a build-enabling one. It seems that every time I'm wandering the forums, I see what looks like an interesting build, read about it, it sounds really neat... and then I see the equipment build, and it says "you can build this without Aegis Aurora and Bringer of Rain, but you lose 90% of the tankiness and will die immediately." Which suggests to me that 90% of the builds I'm interested in aren't powerful because of the skills they're using or the player's playstyle.... they're powerful because they have the exact same overpowered unique as everyone else. Well, everyone else not poor like me :-)

Anyway, my frustration isn't not having this one helmet - it's not having access to the huge number of builds enabled by this ultra-powerful unique. Most of the other build-around uniques are low/mid-level, and thus fairly easy to access. Other ultra-powerful uniques doon't bother me as much - for instance, it doesn't bother me at all that Marohi Erqi is really rare and expensive. It's just powerful - it doesn't do things that nothing else in the game does. It doesn't enable builds.

Jesus, I just checked the Wiki and found out that this was a Diamond unique... how did it get through in this form?... and so was Aegis? WTF, GGG?

Huh. So I pulled up ten or so popular uniques... and most of them are diamond uniques. Does that seem problematic to anyone else?

ROFL. Fascinating opinion. Care to back it up with anything? Because I don't know of any other helm or armor that gives a huge amount of +block, and (if I'm doing my math right) seven links are better than six. I might be wrong there.

This thing is so absurdly strong, we might have another legacy unique soon.
I generally don't like the idea of uniques that outperform the best rares, or the best rares you can get for less than 300 exalteds a piece.

i think its fine, or needs just a slightly nerf (but pls no legacy items again, thats just a laugh) ( and no i dont have one)

you loose like 1000-1500 BASEarmor and maybe 100-200 resists compared to hi-end rares.

of course its a very strong item, maybe the strongest melee unique atm. but its not automatically best in slot. also you need really good gear (resists) to use it in a safe way

This is just speculation, but.. most of those builds, look at them. They probably have several ex worth on each jewelry slot. Items that would make another build good, if they ran a good helm and 6L chest. Besides the off slot flat phys, the only thing BoR really has going for it is the block chance. Everything else makes it a pretty damn good item, but balanced by drawbacks. Including but not limited to the three most severe: huge gap in missing resists, less base ar/ev, and missing an entire 1-2 skills + supports.

It's a strong unique, but you can't just slap it on and call it a day. Making it work is a tight fit, and you have to look at the other gear these people are running with. I'll bet you, it not only doesn't suck, but is a pretty damn expensive set up even without the additional cost of BoR.

I never understood the focus onto some of the unique items, as normal and selffound player like me you will so or so never get these. I checked this Helmet, it has some nice stats but like so often, one single point disqualifies the entire item for me:

"Can't use Chest armour"

LOL! As if you could survive without any chest armor that easily. (Again, I talk about solo and selffound gameplay). It's the same like this non socket chest that actualy don't have anything else than 500/1000 life. I know in PoE life is valuable, but THAT valuable? O_o" I could live with this 6l chest that has 6 links but nothing else, still a weird Item imho but ok, at least you can socket every gem in it.

Sounds to me like your complaint about its power should be disregarded since you wouldn't be saying anything if you owned one.

Its far more balanced than the uniques that were nerfed.

When you really look at it hardly anyone uses it for the blind, so looking at the rest its not even as good as a basic 6L chest. The attack speed and melee physical don't even go up to 20 and another small drawback is you can never change those two mods to anything else. I have to agree with pants that the best part about it is the block chance. Its really good if your not rich enough to get a better 6L chest with an awesome helmet.
