Soul Taker needs a nerf

As long as it's not more powerful than a perfectly rolled rare it's fine. FYI, it's not. Lioneyes on the other hand is.

Sure, maybe if you look at it like a DPS obsessed WoW kiddy and only look at the dmg output it offers.
The chill effect and no skill cost on top of the decent dps are what make it shine.

Perfect rolled Siege Axe dps is 534

Perfect rolled Soul Taker dps is 364

I'd take less DPS with an extra aura ANY DAY. Yes, with Soul Taker, you can have 4 auras reserved from mana and spam frenzy (which costs a lot)

The day people don't argue points with smoke and mirrors is the day I cut off my manhood.
You will never see a man faking anger, passion and relentless behavior.

You will always see a man faking love, politeness and respectful behavior.

I own 2. Thanks for telling me things I already know. And I doubt that if you had a 534dps axe you'd be screaming to use your soul taker over it. If you were hop based you'd just pop a BM gem back in and still run all your auras as normal.

You get it. Well done. :)

For those that don't: judging an item, even a weapon, purely on its 'dps' is seriously like judging a book by its cover. Not saying you can't or shouldn't (if a book has a dragon and a dude with a sword on the front, I'm pretty sure it's not a crime thriller), but always, always think a bit deeper. Because 'dps' is only one angle to the multi-faceted beast that is a good build.

I have seen you state multiple times that you are not able to judge the end game effects of items because you yourself are not an endgame player. Maybe take your own advice then and stop commenting about things you know nothing about. I run with guys (in hardcore) who do 30k+ with their 2 hander's while having never died (we are all lvl 93+). If you put a cold proc on their weapons you know what you'd get? Stuff that still dies in 1 second because they don obscene damage.

Survivability, especially in hardcore, is extremely important, but like most games anywhere near this realm, damage is as much about survivability as hp/armor/resist etc are. If I can up my damage from 20k with a soul taker to 30k+ with a perfect rare axe, I'm almost certainly going to run the axe and be a better character that can more easily handle any challenges this game tosses at it.

FYI, most deaths are due to ego, not because you don't have a cold proc, or god forbid you do way too much damage.
Soul taker is significantly more overpowered than lions eye glare for its weapon class.

A perfectly rolled phys/ele thicket is like 420 dps while a perfect lions is like 324. Accuracy is now vastly much more viable due to monsters having less evasion and dont forget evasion/ondar's guile allows you to dodge reflected damage even if you need a megaton of eva for it to really shine.

where as a soul taker basically gives you 1 additional support gem. this alone will generally be more powerful and obviously more versatile than the dps gain of a perfect rar.e

Fair enough. I didn't realise this conversation only applied to end-game. Sorry. :)

docks at 60 =/= lvl 75 maps at 80

Yes this conversation was about end game. Would you spend 35 exalts on a axe just to farm docks? Come on.

Sure it's overpowered

But can most people afford it?

No.

And who can?

Those who already are plowing through maps.

These super rare, expensive, and overpowered items are just giving high level players another reason to play the game after they've already done everything else.

Except for Shav's since that's truly a must-have for some builds.

What I've found is that Soul Taker's cost mod is a complete trap for solo play. You think you're better off, but what ends up happening is you can pay for your attacks, but not for curses or totems or any of those other nice survivability features, and you end up shooting yourself in the foot as a result.

However, I suspect it would be pretty amazing in group play with someone else doing the cursing and crowd control.

NOOB DETECTED!

You can curse to your hearts desire if you are smart. Just get your 3 linked axe to have Blood Magic - Whatever Curse - Enduring Cry

What else are you going to put in a 3 link?

You simply have no idea how this game works. Soul Taker with Frenzy as primary skill on a 7linked Bringer of Rain while reserving all mana with 4 aruas (hatred purity determination haste) is broken.
