Point is, from my experience of browsing and very brief exposure to the unrestrained flames, I refuse to believe that this board is not, pound for pound, more mature than D3's.
I dunno about the users, but the mods here are much more mature. Here, you have to do something way outta line (like posting schisse porn) to get banned. Over there, you can get banned for disagreeing with a mod.

Yeah or like the guy who posted talking about himself in the third person over there. His post got deleted, but simply because people downrated him for referring to himself in the third person...
(it was actually kind of funny, I think he was trying to role-play)

Not every thread. Some, sure. And you can usually tell ahead of time which will turn into mud-slinging matches and pissing contests.
The miracle of these boards is that at least a few threads have actually recovered from trolling, arguing and name-calling.
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.
I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.

People can sling whatever they want... I typically skim for personal attacks, because as the density of personal attacks goes up and the number of participants in the thread go down, the thread approaches locked status
Even if the arguments used to defend particular positions are entirely nonsense (usually considered trolling, and the argument considered flaming)... as long as people don't gang up on an individual in a malicious way, I let it go
