Enough With the D3 vs PoE Beta

No, just because they are similar does not mean that they have to fight each other until one remains.

Games don't work like that, if genres are niche enough people struggle to find many games, so similar games are played by the same audience.

If the genre is popular, lots of people will still play games of the same genre (CoD,Halo; Minecraft, Terraria; etc).

So sorry, but I fail to understand your point.

i see exactly what you mean. basically these are 2 different games in the same genre. there are other games, such as torchlight, titan quest, etc.. but nobody seems to be counting them. i think its just cause theres a trend in asking whether d3 is gonna outshine PoE.

D3 isn't out yet and people are already leaving the closed beta, and you wonder if D3 will outshine PoE?

I was wtching a livestream of a dev playing Torchlight 2 CB for two days with around 200-300 ppl in chat and PoE wasnt mentioned at all, most ppl asked about TL@ ofcourse but many questions was about D3 too. so dont stay only on the talks in here.

This is worrying me a bit.. It seems that outside this forum..people don't know or don't care about PoE at all.

Warning: This Wall o text will blot out many things....suns,eh not that but something will be blotted!

I dont get it.....Ive read the whole thread and several others and I just dont get all the hate D3 is getting. And I think its time someone broke this mess down, and I mean into real details other than " Acti-blizzard is evil....and devours puppy souls!"

Now before I begin..let me just say I played PoE last beta, and I really enjoyed it, ive lived on Diablo 1 and 2, and am a large fan of ARPG's, heck I even invested into Titans quest which when Diablo 2 needed a rest, was the next best thing. So i don't personally care which game players like or play more, as both are great.

What i DONT agree with however is all the misinformed bashing at D3, did they make some questionable decisions....yes but people seem so blinded by thier hate, or I dunno fanboyism that in reality PoE has most of the same issues D3...or the game they are comparing it to, D2 had. So lets....just break it down, ill keep it numbered so crap doesnt get mixed up.

1. D3 Removed Stats per level like strength! Oh noez they are making it carebear like and removing Decisions!!!

Reality: They aren't at all, because there was never a decision how you spent stat points in the first place, let me explain. If you were good at D2, in other words having played it through a few times, and if you asked ANY d2 expert youd hear and learn the same thing

Get your str dex or whatever stats you need to get your best gear, than ALL into Vit, no exceptions for any class, ever. What that means if that there are zero stat builds, zero decisions in the end if you wanted to stand the best chance of surviving hell mode, even sorcs just dump it all into VIT. There were no other builds.....ever, so they just removed uneeded min maxing since lets face it, thats what stat builds WOULD become, cookie cutter to the highest level.

2. No customization grrrr...PoE has soooo much more.

Reality: again.....i didn't play in the most recent d3 beta, but couldnt we not even beat act one in the end? To claim that theres no builds or differences in characters only after what likely ammounts to not even ten percent of the game is, in my head insanity and unbelievably unfair, but ill touch on THAT subject more.

More reality: PoE while a great game has less customization....you look upa build of the best passive tree and go from there. Dozens of passive +2's to strength and +10 percent melee damage is NOT customization, ever. To think that is downright bizarre. I don't hate the path PoE took, but I know whats customization and what isn't and D2 had far more, and ive a feeling D3 will as well as Most will realize when they can play the FULL game.

3. Tha graphics arent so dark that I Cut myself!

Reality: I admit, I was a bit taken back by the graphics at first, and Ill admit I at first joined the angry bandwagon, but somewere down the line as I played in a few beta Phases I realized it didn't really matter. The graphics were nice and bloody, the settings looked great and as any gamer worth thier salt knows " The graphics don't make the game." Also...and this is big, though they are a tad more cartoonish....

Do you remember when you and a few barbians were hacking up Baal In D2...and you realized that due to the extreme limtied character skins that you all looked the EXACT same? The only diff would be a different weapon type..or a bright blue one etc depending on the elemental. If these slighty different graphic alterations allow for myself to actually look different than the 100x other barbarians or sorcs in plate mail than I for one welcome it.

4. Wai no hardcore PVP's?!!!!...

Reality: Pvp was ever hardcore in an ARPG? Hell even in D2, the game people praise PoE is the succesor of pvp was never more than a side thing when you got bored of grinding Baal's skull against the ground ( why WAS he so easy?). There was never item drop, save for gold(smart folks stored it) and You cant be counting the corpse thing as relogging gets you your corpse and loot all back( what most folk did if someone was corpse camping).

Moar: I for one like the idea that D3's pvp will just be Imba chars clashing, again with no real consequences. I can deal with 1 life death in the real game, but full loot and perma death for pvp?. Sorry not even Darkfall was that hardcore man, only full item loot :P. Pvp in diablo 2 was 99% just for fun and bragging, and Hammerdins always ruled >.>....booooooo.

Also as a sub note....someone said pvp in D3 will all be about gear.......yea, same for PoE, sorry >>.

5. Real Cash auction house?! WTF IS THIS bullcocky?!:

Reality: Again...if you were "into" what the expert D2 players etc did, there already WAS a real cash auction house, it was called chinese sites. Even I fell victim, getting fully geared in the best gear available in one ladder session, notmy proudest moment. But yea, this thing you hate so much exists to this day for D2, just go google searching for 3 minutes and you'll find a few.

This is Acti-blizzards stab at them essentially, and while I don't approve of it, and hope theres a way to keep it somehow normal ($500 fer max level RARE go!) I can defiantly see why its being done. Again this is a double edged sword, it sucks, but anyone who does some resarch can see why it happened.

Also....to get to really mega endgame here, i expect chinese to be selling power in PoE as well, being a FTP game that doesnt cost 60 bucks at the start will make this game a prime target, same as all FTp games.

6. D3 Isnt hard enuff! I never died during the beta!

Reality: Reeeeaaaalllly? I mean, this one made my head pound the most and is actually what made me write this entire post. Your basing a games difficulty on the first what, 5 Percent of a game on its easiest difficulty? I mean....that is the definition of bias fanboyism, judging a game as a whole by the first five percent just isnt right.

And again since SO many of you use D2 as a benchmark...how many of you had REAL trouble during the first difficulty setting after a play through or two? I can even mark off the ONLY hard points in diablo 2 normal mode

1. Duriel- This was moreso due to that hideous lag spike when you entered his room, my sorc has died many times before being allowed to move.

2. Hero enemies with Lightning enchant in Maggot tunnels: Someone here has to have experianced this one, all that lightinging in a tiny hall means you'll be hit by multiple shots per second, it goes from a spread AOE to a shotgun in the face.

3. Slayer fanatics with combat aura- hate em...worst threat ever in hell mode....they can burn in hell along with 80% of act 3

4. Diablo's Fortress and Diablo himself: This is more a first time palythrough as the enemies here go from "Slightly hard at times" To " The fuuuuuuu?!. Even after you learn thier moves, thier combinations of attacks can insta kill you (dem army o mages).



So yea, judging a games difficuly by the first five percent, crazy levels of insanity in that.

CONCLUSION: As i stated, I enjoy PoE and have No problems if a person enjoys one game or the other, Just when misinformation is used as the weapon of choice, enjoy the read.

hahaha, this is why i come to this forum every once in a while. I always get a good laugh out of posts like these :))

Industry analysts are predicting 3.5 million sales for D3 in the first year with almost 800000 preorders already in the US alone. Its the most anticipated game of the year in all gaming community while almost nobody even heard of PoE. Yea sure I know the anwser aswell.
