Is this game for adults or kids?

R18 in NZ is pretty much reserved for excessive drug usage or gratuitous violence. Syndicate got R18 I think because you could make enemies suicide, but it got banned in Oz.

Basic horror/gore will rarely get out of the R16 rating system. Also the fluffy Kiwi's balance it out.

As others have stated, the names/phrases we moderate against are more for being racist/hateful/derogatory rather than vulgar. It is a mature game, but nobody should have to sit through unmoderated racism or hate speech, it creates a really negative environment.

You are talking shit mate, i got banned for the name "pornography" if that is any shape or form racism, hate speech or anything then every word is. As op stated you guys hold standards of a kindergarten in a very religious area when it comes to character names.

Dunno about you guys, but the part I find childish is the juvenile "ButtRape123" and "IFuckedMadonna" names that GGG is making people change. Good on you, GGG. Keep it up.

What about "pornography"

I wonder if you got banned for the name, or for other behaviour that was brought to support's attention because of the name report....

Because the way you are acting, I reckon this is the case.

This seems in contradiction to the several GGG posts in this forum encouraging players to report "offensive" names regardless of whether or not they are "hateful." And again, it seems that what is deemed "offensive" or "hateful" is narrowly defined by only one value set.

We would rather that fringe/borderline cases are still reported to us so we can review them, instead of offensive ones not getting reported because people didn't think they qualified.

If you think that we should moderate the names differently or if you have any further suggestions, please let us know, we are always open to feedback and I'll read through everything in this thread.

I'll give you a perfect example. While I disagree strongly with censorship, I try not to personally attack someone except for the rare cases where it may actually serve as a wake-up call and change behavior for the better. There is a guy a few posts above me who agrees with me, and is beginning to get personally inflammatory towards the statements you've made. What do you do in this situation? You could ban him, you could suspend him, you could delete his post, you could even lock the thread.

Do you know what the best choice is? Let it go. Ignore it.

This game already has an ignore feature in place, and if people are offended by someone's name or the things they have said, even if they are intended to be extremely hateful or hurtful or bigoted, people can choose to be adults and just let it go. Being offended is a choice.

When you implement a system to censor these people, you always run the risk of infringing someone's beliefs because there is not a single idea in the entire world that someone, somewhere does not find offensive. My only suggestion is to let people say what they want and encourage anyone who does not like it to use the ignore feature. The people that are really trying to be offensive are only rewarded when you give them the strong reaction they are looking for anyway.

Did you just say what I think you did?

Yeah, I think so.

I think emtwo just said that to be an adult, and thus by inference to be mature, we should let any and all forms of non-physical abuse slide, because hey, that's what adults do. So shall we then start encouraging hate speech at a young age so that these kids can grow up to be "mature adults"?

Would you like that, emtwo? Would you like kids to begin learning how to hate people of different color or gender or religion so that they can learn how to grow up into your definition of an adult? Imagine that!

All I see in this thread is one extremely irrational, nonsensical, illogical person trying to argue with people who are, by their response, way more "adult" and mature than he is.

Good job on all the other responses here, by the way.

Both.
The rest of the 'end-game' content will be available along with a heap of new stuff when the game launches in a few months time. From what I've seen it's going to be awesome. - Michael_GGG

How exactly do you make the jump from "not flipping out every time somebody says something you don't like" to "encouraging hate speech?" Straw man much?

Thank you for proving my point though. I've browsed through your post history and virtually every post you've made is a personal attack on somebody else in these forums. You are actually trying to be offensive. Yet here I am, more than happy to defend your right to fling insults everywhere because the reality is that anyone who takes you seriously enough to be offended is just as immature as you are acting.

If everyone starts "not flipping out" and "ignoring", what message does that send to the offenders? It sends a message of implied acceptance, even if that wasn't the actual intention.

It's the same reason why GGG cracks down so harshly on RMT. Why not just "be adults" and ignore it? Because ignoring is often the greatest problem. It might not financially affect anyone in the same way that ignoring RMT would, but look beyond the tangible, and realize that there will come a point where you start breeding something just as harmful. Sure, ONE online ARPG community isn't going to change the world. But this is the internet. Things spread. First one ARPG. Then another.

Think: why do people go to extremes over online bullying? After all, it's just bits of text that can be ignored, right? Why did one of the world's largest religions go bonkers over Danish cartoons? After all, they should be adults, right?

Also, yeah I can be a bit offensive at times. None of that is even remotely the same as trying to justify slurs against entire groups of people because of their skin color or religion, but thanks for trying. There is quite the line between being impolite and downright offensive, and I'm not the one drawing the line. GGG draws it, and I just simply happen to agree with them.

Some of us from closed beta may remember a week race where the name "FuckMyLife" was used and in the end was allowed to be used. The player said he named it that because that's what he says when he dies. GGG saw reason in that and let it go. I think you can use just about anything so long as you can justify it in one way or another that's not racist or actual bullying.

As far as comparing the naming policy and what's acceptable in chat to RMT is about as dumb of a comparison as you can get. One involves a persons feelings the other effects the core mechanics of the game. You tried to reach on that one and fell flat on your face.
"
seem to indicate that the game is only intended for children that adhere to a set of Judeo-Christian values and narrow sense of morality

Implying being against hate speech and intolerance is solely the province of judeo-christian values (some judeo-christian values go against this). Try Humanist, it fits better.

In that case, these values are good, other values often are terrible. Objectively. Feel free to cry about it.
