Masticate every sword. Shatters every shrine. It defeat mighty kings and carry mountains on lightly wings.

R18 in NZ is pretty much reserved for excessive drug usage or gratuitous violence. Syndicate got R18 I think because you could make enemies suicide, but it got banned in Oz.

Basic horror/gore will rarely get out of the R16 rating system. Also the fluffy Kiwi's balance it out.

As others have stated, the names/phrases we moderate against are more for being racist/hateful/derogatory rather than vulgar. It is a mature game, but nobody should have to sit through unmoderated racism or hate speech, it creates a really negative environment.

You are talking shit mate, i got banned for the name "pornography" if that is any shape or form racism, hate speech or anything then every word is. As op stated you guys hold standards of a kindergarten in a very religious area when it comes to character names.

Dunno about you guys, but the part I find childish is the juvenile "ButtRape123" and "IFuckedMadonna" names that GGG is making people change. Good on you, GGG. Keep it up.

What about "pornography"

That is fucking priceless... especially when GGG has this in game:

There are dead babies, breasts, penises, and lots of gore in the game. I'd say it is for adults.
Remember when I won a screenshot contest and made everyone butt-hurt? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

The difference between adults and children is not the language they use. In fact, children are often more offensive than adults. The difference is that if this game is for adults, then those people should be mature enough to not cry like little babies whenever they encounter something they deem "offensive."

Is swearing and vulgarity often childish? Yes.

Is it even more childish to get your feelings hurt about it? Definitely.

This is the distinction I'm trying to draw.

So when you say "for adults" doesn't mean "for twats" you're actually dead wrong. If you get offended by someone being a "twat," you're actually more childish than the twat.

Even as an adult, it is impossible to always know what will offend someone else, but on the flipside, it is always possible to choose not to be offended by it, especially when you have an ignore function.

Adults don't need to use big-boy-swear-words to get their points across.

"If you get offended by someone being a "twat,"..."?

Is it that "acceptable" to use disrespectful profanity? Do you go upto your mother and say "how was your fucking day, bitch?"

Grow up...

The story-line, the artwork, the atmosphere and the gore in this game seem to indicate that it's intended for adults of all kinds. GGG's stance on "offensive" language and names, however, seem to indicate that the game is only intended for children that adhere to a set of Judeo-Christian values and narrow sense of morality.

I'm confused, which is it?
Theirs is art with vulgarity in it, which is a world of difference from artless vulgarity. But neither are appropriate for children.

When you are a guest in someone's home, you might not respect their decisions, but you should always respect their right to enforce those decisions. If I say fuck in someone's house and I'm asked to leave, I might think that's bullshit, but I'm leaving and I respect their right to force me to do so. By the same logic, if GGG says you need to mind your language, then you need to mind your language (or leave).

I'm not saying they're infallable, but I think staff/mods are pretty competent at separating the artful uses of profanity from its truly crude uses; I'd say complaints should be more a case-by-case basis than a broad attack on their judgment, which is what your disgraceful opening post really is.

Language has nothing to do with the concept of adulthood.

An adult is just as likely to say fuck you as much as a child given the circumstances.

An adult is just as likely to invent a witty porn name for a character as a child.

There is no relevance whatsoever in attributing either sexually motivated names or sporadic swearing with any specific age group.

To be honest, it's actually extremely childish (naive) to associate such activity with being 'childish'.

The game is not designed for 'young' children. Everyone knows that.

This is just a rant about an issue you have personally about the game and you've used the concept of 'childishness' as your excuse because for some reason you can't feel confident to make the rant without some form of justification. Whether you actually believe your own justification or whether you knew it was good troll food, only you can know - but the premise, I'm afraid, is 100% horseshit. Sorry.

Freedom of expression should be limited where freedom of others will get hurt.

GGG does a good job with their policies and the support always feels informed. Really, they are giving AAA+ support as an indie developer. There are big publishers out there which won't even grant this basic support discussed here to its players. I am glad GGG chooses to establish an ordered community interaction. If you want to discuss politics or other players, you can take it to your own channels.

This + GGG's comments.

Constant use of offensive language or having an offensive name is something a child does.

Normal working productive citizens of society don't sit around global insulting people and calling names, dropping racial slurs and f bombs. Grow up, then you want care about this bullshit.
