This seems in contradiction to the several GGG posts in this forum encouraging players to report "offensive" names regardless of whether or not they are "hateful." And again, it seems that what is deemed "offensive" or "hateful" is narrowly defined by only one value set.
We would rather that fringe/borderline cases are still reported to us so we can review them, instead of offensive ones not getting reported because people didn't think they qualified.
If you think that we should moderate the names differently or if you have any further suggestions, please let us know, we are always open to feedback and I'll read through everything in this thread.
THAT is a pretty damn adult response. Argue that.

Freedom of expression should be limited where freedom of others will get hurt.
GGG does a good job with their policies and the support always feels informed. Really, they are giving AAA+ support as an indie developer. There are big publishers out there which won't even grant this basic support discussed here to its players. I am glad GGG chooses to establish an ordered community interaction. If you want to discuss politics or other players, you can take it to your own channels.

I've never understood why people feel it's necessary to babble in swear words constantly. Especially when it comes to the written word.
Has always seemed like a "look at me, I'm cool" move. But, hey. Whatever buffs the feathers I suppose. :)

@Charan
Ha. That story was merely a joke. In fact children playing on the street use much much worse vocabulary than the worst shop assistant in my neighborhood. When thinking about it, it's probably children overusing the bad words in the game anyway because it's a kind of forbidden fruit, and then adults make posts about it on forums, sweet reward :)

The story-line, the artwork, the atmosphere and the gore in this game seem to indicate that it's intended for adults of all kinds. GGG's stance on "offensive" language and names, however, seem to indicate that the game is only intended for children that adhere to a set of Judeo-Christian values and narrow sense of morality.
I'm confused, which is it?
Wait, are you seriously trying to find logic on this, in a MMO?? Not unless the video game content looks like it's for children, then it's obviously not for children(eg. realistic violence).
Not to mention you used the worst example, to say that it's for children(and to trying to bring religion into this), shouldn't you say Teens instead?
Ultimately, this thread brought about almost nothing to the table, and is just spam imo.

I'll let the fact that it's not an MMO slide. I'm not sure what you mean by "used the worst example." Which example?

The naming policy basically permits 'mature' names. Maturity does not extend to racial hate speech.

Dunno about you guys, but the part I find childish is the juvenile "ButtRape123" and "IFuckedMadonna" names that GGG is making people change. Good on you, GGG. Keep it up.

Yesterday I went to a store because I wanted some vegetable and imagine the scene:
"Fuck you, these are not worth 5 a piece!"
"Of course they are you motherfucking piece of shit!"
"OK, but your mom is so fat she sells shade in the summer."
"Yeah, she actually does that, here is your fucking vegetable."
"Thanks, bitch."
I have never felt more adult.
Ironically, if that were standard, we'd have to come up with new words to replace those for the 'shock' value.
In Australia, that word is 'mate'. With the right tone, 'mate' is the lowest of insults here, while certain other words I shall not type are quite commonplace. Strange but true.
But... I call people I don't know 'mate'.
Considering I work as pizza delivery, everyone I deliver to is a 'mate'.
