Is this game for adults or kids?

Act like a mature human being and you won't run into any problems. I fail to see the issue.
Is there anyone else than emtwo who's being confused by the rules? I don't think you will be confused by the rules unless you try to be confused.

That was a long-winded way to backpeddle out of the suggestion that acting like a twat should be protected under an adult's game. And to answer it, no, being tolerant of twats doesn't make you an adult either.

There's very little which actually offends me (I don't care what character name or swear words people use in chat, but if GGG does, then I accept that), least of all on the internet, but that doesn't mean that there isn't behaviour which I'd just rather not to see. Idiocy is an eyesore, whether it offends you or not.

Tolerating twats is something that the government has to put up with when it comes to its citizens, as opposed to a private company which has every right to regulate/forbid twatish behaviour. The great thing is you also have every right to no longer do business with the company.

I didn't back-peddle from that suggestion, I blatantly stated that suggestion.

And of course GGG has every right to do what they want with their product. They could ban you for having the word "Reaper" in your name if they wanted to, and they'd be well within their legal rights to do so. It sure would be silly and arbitrary though, just like banning people who use words like "cunt" or "whore" or "bitch" in their name is arbitrary and silly in a game where blood and gore and genitalia (both male and female) are everywhere.

I'm not confused by the rules, merely confused by the contradiction created between the adult nature of the game and the childish nature of the rules.

Its only for kids obviously.
Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me.

You've still failed to demonstrate why rules against fulminating hate and antagonism are childish. I really don't see the grounds of your problem. Having adult content in an entertainment medium doesn't at all imply that the rules of those enjoying said entertainment ought to follow that mode of behaviour.

Wraeclast is a dark, dismal place full of black-and-grey morality where backstabbing, murder, and great suffering is merely commonplace. This does not imply an obligation to allow anything remotely of the sort from the players of this game. Reality and fantasy are different things. By this line of reasoning (which appears to be what you're using? please correct me if I'm mistaken) then somebody who enjoys certain genres of heavy metal with lyrics re: anger/hate/genocide/etc. ought to then see it permissible to commit these acts.

I just don't get it. What am I missing?

Hi.

Making a disctinction between Adults and kids is kinda childish, idk i may be wrong.

Grow up kid. (being a smart ass, I hope obviously)

I always feel old when I have to explain my game manners ideology but...

I treat it like I would going into any other public space eg; shop, restaurant, gas station. Keep it polite and civil. Would you ever say " get me a fucking cheeseburger you twat."? Im thinking not, so why would you speak like that on a public forum?

In more socially secluded settings, bars, at home etc. I can curse like a sailor and insult my friends because we ARE friends and its accepted.

This really is common sense, it saddens me that some people ( you youngin's!!!) would need an explanation.

100% agree with you synner

As a side-note, to ascribe a specific value-set to Humanism shows a lack of understanding what Humanism is. The mistake is understandable though, given the varied and often nebulous definitions of Humanism.

The same thing can be said about ascribing value-sets to any broad category of philosophies,
beliefs or major religion. There are splits within schisms within faction of branches. Then there are those that claim to be of a particular philosophy but act contrary to it and give the rest a bad name.

That's why generalizations regarding people are a slippery path toward bigotry.

I prefer Kurt Vonegut's definition; that Humanism is the belief that we all have the capacity to be decent human beings without fear of punishment nor expectation of reward in the afterlife.

Unfortunately, like any other skill or mental ability, there are different levels of achievment in someone's moral development. The particular mixture of nature and nurture that someone grows up with can make it harder or easier to work their way up the ladder of what is acceptable.

I will reiterate that language restrictions are not unique to any one culture, nor did they originate in just any one culture. There are ways of expressing the exact same meaning that can be offensive based on the relationship of the speaker and the listener. It could be the combination of culture and language, such as in Guugu Yimidhirr or Russian, or it could be something determined by the current Kotobagari, or even the semblance of the word's phonetics to other words such as in Mandarin.

If you took a brand new planet with brand new humans with zero knowledge from Earth, over time they would develop their own taboos on what can be expressed in what situations. Ideas that invoke strong reactions will have stronger taboos.

Think of it this way - why do many people want to use the same small group of words that others find offensive? Precisely because they are discouraged from doing so. The subset of peole that want to use those words because they express a non-offending idea is in all likelihood very minute. If the words "Orange" and "Peace" were highly offensive, there would be plenty of people using OrangePeace or OrangePeez or whatever other variety they could get just for the shock value.

Personally, I'd like to see "WTB" and "WTS" become taboo as public game names. Not because they are offensive, but they clutter of the game screen and block out other possible games.

The story-line, the artwork, the atmosphere and the gore in this game seem to indicate that it's intended for adults of all kinds. GGG's stance on "offensive" language and names, however, seem to indicate that the game is only intended for children that adhere to a set of Judeo-Christian values and narrow sense of morality.

I'm confused, which is it?

Tell me what is adult about naming your character something vulgar. Mature adults don't do that, children do.
