what is offensive about the name "IFightforTheGloryofGod" ???

Well in A2 you kill normal humans that are against you. That's not glory, but murder. Remember crusades from history class? Imo, killing anyone isn't a glorious act. It's not your place to claim glory for such actions. I'm not even religious. I just think it's never an acceptable means to a problem. Because the solution is as bad as the problem.

Are you talking about Act 2 in PoE? If so then THEY are trying to kill you. You're actually just defending yourself, which is justifiable killing.

killing a person can be completely justified and not felt bad about in some situations

if someone broke into my house trying to kill me I wouldn't feel bad about shooting them in defense at all

I like offending people, because I think the people who get offended should be offended.

But seriously... what kind of whinny little baby would get its gaming experience stained by other players name... get a life man

Sincerely yours

have you guys heard tolman scream when you first enter crematorium? that shit gave me more chills than any name possible could...

i think this whole business about names is ridiculous. who cares? how can you even see what other players names are unless you are actively trying to find out? there are tick boxes to hide general chat and trade chat and you have to mouse over someone in town to see their name, if they are joining your party just kick them

what is offensive about the name "IFightforTheGloryofGod" ???

Because the idea of a personal god offends me and I find the concept ridiculous and juvenile. I also have disdain for people using their idea of God to justify any action at all whether it be in the justification of war or for the reason behind a charitable act.

My point being that different people find different things offensive, there is no universal standard for what is offensive to everyone. If I don't like a players name in game, I don't report them. If a player is harassing someone specifically or threatening violence towards someone then that should be reported.
Well, this thread reminded me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PaJelU29jeI
"We believe - so we're misled, we assume - so we're played, we confide - so we're deceived, we trust - so we're betrayed"
My last race character was named KrippDoYouEvenLiftBro.

I see no problem with the name IWillTortureYou. We need to be less thin-skinned. Don't get me wrong, there is a line... but that's not near it.
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

By the same logic you could call "ILoveShoes" a reference to piety because whenever you meet her, she is wearing shoes...

IWillTortureYou is a reference to Piety specifically because she is a major story character who tortures people. This is her role in the lore. If her role in the lore involved shoes, then yes, your example would make sense. But that's not her role and as such your example doesn't make sense. It's not a major logical leap to associate torturing with Piety because that's what she is known for; human experimentation which generally involves torture. However, it is major logical leap to associate her specifically with shoes when nothing in her story highlights shoes.

How is this not obvious?

This is a bullshit argument. It's just not clear enough, specific enough, to be a reference.

"IWillTortureYou" has absolutely no grounding as a reference to *any* character. Any number of characters from any number of works might say that, which is why if anyone saw it, they would not in a thousand years go 'Oh, nice reference to Piety, dude.'

A name with 'Cockroach' in PoE has clear reference to something to do with Dialla because she's known for using that word. "Stray puppy" would work as a Piety reference, as would "Find your own way". Verbal references are the most common in these contexts because these speech samples are the most recognisable feature of said characters to reference.

"IWillTortureYou" gives no indication it's a Piety reference and to argue it is completely untenable beyond the confines of your own imagination.

Just stop.

I prefer IcecreamSandwichWaitress or MarchingbandIcecreamConeServer as my own personal reference to Piety. I have no concrete explanation as to why I find that name applicable for her. The only thing I can think of is that to me her outfit looks like an elaborate ice cream parlor waitress/marching band outfit.

Edit: Or RasberryBeret like the Prince song
