How about quit telling players how to have fun in a game? Minimap icons did not make the game less fun for anyone as far as I know, and it actually made the game more fun for players like me. What part of me wanting icons back is somehow antithetical to PoE?

I'm sure there's a list of reason we both could use to justify our points. The bottom line is we both want to have fun and play game. Does minimap icon make game less fun for you? If yes, then we can have a more meaningful conversation I feel. Otherwise this devolves into us "arguing at each other" online about how we each find the game fun, rather than having a real discussion.

Internet has poisoned people's ability to communicate, I swear.

I very clearly explained why prior forewarning from 3 off-screens away about where the next dangerous encounter is takes away from the gameplay experience.

GGG added the minimap icons as a quick bandaid fix to A) poor map layouts and B) map completion requirements

Map layouts have seen continuous improvement. Killing every rare is no longer mandatory. Problem solved, bandaid removed. Not sure why that's hard to understand. It was never a permanent solution. The fact GGG never implemented this before, and only implemented it as a quick fix to solve a separate issue then immediately removing clearly shows it's antithetical to POE. You are questioning the people making the game?
They should just show you every rares and boss and let people decide which one they go after.

Agreed on that one.
Players: Chasing rares for map completion is boring!
GGG: Removes that
Players: OMG! Why we can't chase rares anymore? It was perfect.

Get your shit together people. Like for real.

I can understand the information taking away from gameplay experience. For me, however, it added to it. The game is already visually cluttered as it is, and so seeing rares ahead of time means I can safely guide my whisp to it, or know which direction to open my deli mirror. Or help inform me on any number of decisions about how I want to run my map. But I can see how getting this information would make it less fun for someone who enjoys the thrill of discovery and novelty, more than the calculation and precision planning that I prefer.

A) poor map layouts still exist, this is a subjective experience
B) there is no icon for bosses (until you are close), so the map completion requirement fulfillment is not met here.

It may not have been meant as a permanent solution, but it worked fantastically as one. Sure, now I can bee-line it to the boss and complete maps faster, but at the cost of losing 80% of the content juice in the rest of the map. Now, I have to backtrack anyway unless I'm just rushing through map zones intentionally.

And to your last point I'm not questioning GGG, I'm telling them I want rare map icons back.

What did they give? Maps are worse. Tablets are generally less effective. This patch only took, we got nothing.

That's subjective -- for me, we gained QoL -- which typically cost us fans the most from GGG.

The goal was to make endgame less shitty, not all of us want to spend 7-10 min per map, and have to path through 4-5 maps just to get to a tower. That's almost an hours time just to get to ONE tower.

Now we can do exactly the content we want, no RNG nonsense. I put in the content I want to play exclusively -- that's absolutely great for many of us.

And the speed difference with T1 vs T17 is negligible. A T1 map isn't faster than a T15+ for strong characters... So regardless of tear, content, etc etc. Even on rhoa, maps take a long ass time, doubly so if these maps had nothing on them. The old system ATE time by design, I wasn't af an of that :)
was just about to post this.
The idea was to make mapping faster for people that didn't want to clear the whole map but now no one knows where anything is which means even longer clear time's.

I'm going to be that guy and say it.
This was a stupid move an incompetent one at that WTF was the lack of thinking behind this move.

I'd also like to note all my boss tablets i collect are junk now because they have 3 and 4 uses on them and I'm better of tossing them for 10 stack ones when they drop just wtf.

Not everybody, stop with this false propaganda of "majority".
Also really hate this change. I can be staring at a rare and not even know it unless I hover my mouse button over it.

I'm always running random maps so I can't memorize any layouts. So I just run around randomly now hoping to run into rares.

The boss icon doesn't show from the beginning, so I'm again running around blind. This isn't like poe 1 where I can just run 50 jungle valley maps, guaranteeing a good layout that I can easily memorize.

If GGG is going to force us to run random maps blind I'm probably out. Was having a blast with 0.3.0. But this just feels bad. I'd rather ignore towers and juicing like I was than go back to running maps without rare & boss icons. Third map in and I'm already feeling done for the league after this change.
