How the fuck does anyone play hardcore?

first step to playing hardcore is accepting that you will die

I'm perfectly fine with legitimately dying. Like me not paying attention to monster mods and jumping into a reflect pack with no prep is a death that I would be fine with because it's my fault. Dying to something that is literally impossible to anticipate and affect after it happens is just completely unreasonable. Why should I lose my entire day of progress because my game dc's while my internet is perfectly fine?

Second attempt I load up battlefront waypoint and dc out of nowhere (haven't even moved at this point). Been using internet all day so I know it wasn't my connection that was the problem. Log back in, characters in standard.

The game has a 45-second disconnection timer upon entering a new instance. This means that if you disconnect during the first 45s, your character stays in the map until the full 45 seconds have expired.

Since the invulnerability timer is only 20 seconds, your character can be attacked and killed between seconds 20 and 45, while you are logged out, and there is nothing you can do about it.

I lost a character a while back due to this rule. Every time you enter a new zone, you are spinning the wheel of fortune and gambling your character's life.

Q: HOW THE FUCK DOES ANYONE PLAY HARDCORE?
A: /oos on a MACRO!! F2 or F3 preferably! could vary!
Learn how to use it where it pertains to the skill your using! (Some ARE very much worse than others!)
Oh..... and that sentence that sometimes has different colored lines of words under the monsters life at the top of the screen.... you have to pay attention to those and by pay attention i mean you have to read them and engage accordingly!

I understand monster awareness, I know how to play around my skills.

My question is how does anyone deal with this shit; take me for example. Load into battlefront. Game dc's after 2 seconds in the instance (i haven't moved yet). I log back in, and my character is in standard. I'd been using the internet the whole day so I know for sure it wasn't my connection. I have not yet died to an actual encounter in HC yet; just shit like this. And it makes me want to punch my computer screen whenever I lose an entire day of playing the game because of some bullshit error.

OH... Well in that case i completely understand your frustration first off!
And second off you might want to first try running that Win MTR (i think its called) to check your connection to their servers! And then make a thread in Account Help and post the results of the test in a Spoiler!

Theres actually quite a few of the guys who use these forums and especially ones who lerk those particular part of the forums who know how to read those and help you figure out if its on your end with your ISP or on the server end which could still be an ISP but then GG will also see this and act accordingly!

Another thing i would HIGHLY suggest is DL a program called latencymon

What you will do once you load it is start the game up and get it going!
From there you will tab out and hit start on the program and then go play the game for a while and it will start to monitor your audio latency which if theres things causeing issues with stutter and lag and even some desyc can be cause by the latency of things going on with your computer and will tell you what things on your system may need adjustment such as power options and such in your BIOS stuff like that!

I know i had to use it on my old laptop to fix issues with lag i was having in D3 and i was able to make everything i did more stable on that computer as a result!

Also..... An SSD makes loads never an issue ever again even on a potato!

Also i hope you understand that you do have to build your characters completely different in HC just to help accommodate some of these things as well because sometimes they do just happen!

I checked my latency after I died and it seemed to spike between 60-100ms. Nothing that would cause something that retarded to happen.
Oh theres absolutely MANY things that could be causing that! which is exactly why you might want to check into your connection and start there for any issues!

Something learned in D3 HC is the very first thing you need to be successful in HC is a VERY stable internet connection! And POE is certainly no different in this regard!

I've play exclusivity temp hardcore leagues since closed beta. Old HC, Nemesis, Invasion, Beyond, and Bloodlines. To me the fun in the game is building your character and playing carefully enough to avoid deaths in avoidable situations. SUre I died to desync before and DCs can get you sometimes like they did to me in the 1MHC, but though it feels depressing for maybe one day, I get over it the very next day and look forward to the excitement HC brings.

I can't imagine playing the game without knowing people ahead of me in the ladder can RIP and no longer progress. To me I can't imagine a league where you don't get the "X player has died in position 10." It reassures me that this is a dangerous game, and anyone can die if they let their guard down even for a moment. That means when you do get to higher levels (my highest was 95 in Invasion?), you really learn to appreciate all the obstacles you've overcome to get to that point alive. I can't quite explain it but all that comes together to make HC a much more enjoyable experience to me than SC could ever bring. HC or SC arent objectively better than one another, it's totally subjective and up to each individual. For me I much rather prefer HC.

I've only ever played in hardcore and the HC temp leagues

I've never alt-f4'd. I have however pressed escape and logged out. Once was just a few days ago, I sat there for a few minutes debating whether or not to open a lock box in a cramped area (a no-no in HC) because it had a unique in it.

I was killing a ton of mobs around it and I could have sworn that I had already opened it. I spent 2 minutes searching for what I thought was the last mob to get it to open. I was about to give up and walked up to the box and clicked it... ALL the mobs popped up instantly (the ones I thought I already killed, LOL) and I pressed escape and logged out.

I didn't think that was worth trying to escape and I estimate I had a 1% chance to live.

I've been playing for over 4 years now and that's one of the few times that I've logged out. Most of them were when I felt I was desynced and didn't want to take the time to /oos. Just wanted to log out. I've died while trying to /oos a ton of times.

To tailor this point a bit to OP's thread: Playing hardcore is accepting that you will die bullshit, literally unavoidable no matter what deaths.
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
