In two weeks PoE will have less STEAM players than at the end of last leagues

Interesting argument from reddit/user/oneofmanyjs

---------------

If you want these charts to be a meaningful representation of use / decline of use, you need to weight them with the steam global achievement ratios.

As of right now, 37.5% of the playerbase that these charts are based on has killed merveil, and 13.5% has finished the game on normal difficulty on a non-hardcore league. Less than half have the achievement for killing brutus.

The charts by themselves look dramatic, but are not representative of trends in people actually playing the game on their own, and seeing them presumed to be such is getting tiring.

Edit: http://steamgraph.net/index.php?action=graph&appid=238960q72850 is much more useful as far as steam graphs go.
Haven't been on these forums for a yr probably. Check in once in a while to see whats goin on (is the game dead yet)? It seems to always be there. Hardcore fans and FTP peeps seem to keep it goin. Who knows maybe in ten yrs it will still be moving along. Issues like Desync, absurd Everquest like grinding and developer arrogance sent me elsewhere. Different strokes for different folks I guess. The bottom line, as long as Chris can pull a salary the POE will exist. The graphs are only partly relevant IMHO.

Lol steamcharts. Again. Try harder.

The Steam numbers represent reliable, objective, unbiased data. Hard facts, he doesn't have to try harder. Do you have any alternate data of comparable quality to offer?

GGG disabled the /online command, so players no longer have a way to see how many users are playing. I'm convinced that the Steam numbers portray an accurate trend. The forum activity and number of global channels back this up, too.

I don't necessarily find that alarming, nor surprising, but questioning that the numbers are representative (to what degree is debatable) strikes me as illogical.

As long as they got charan and streamers / *cough rmters cough*, they can price their mtx's at the same price as a kilo of vegetables, and get away with it.

While I fully respect Charan, you need to be aware that many of his posts are purely for his "personal entertainment" and sometimes should be taken lightly.

By your own terms, you have deemed yourself invalid.

The people quitting are likely those that never would have spent a dime on the game.

Actually, I believe people trying the game through Steam are MORE likely (have greater potential) to become paying user than those who download the client from the web site.

The reason for this is that nearly everyone who runs the Steam client is already in the habit of spending money on video games. They are less likely to be freeloaders than people who are used to torrenting or downloading games from third party sites (many Steam users won't even play games that are not distributed through Steam).

From this perspective, the failure to retain Steam users is financially significant. Steam isn't some niche platform. Over 75% of all digital game sales are made through Steam, and that number grows every quarter.

@Marketing: From my PoV, if it wasn't for Steam, then PoE would not have any marketing at all. I haven't seen single ad for PoE. While it used to be all the time in Steam suggested titles.

@Playerbase: I think Steam is major statistics on how many new accounts have been created after launch, since PoE was iirc added to Steam at launch. So to cut this short: OPs graphs show that game has fanboi base and other then that it fails to appeal to rest of gamers or to hold their attention for longer then few months.

My in game experience: After start of new leagues there used to be loads of trade channels (60+), it barely reaches to twenties these days.

The conclusion: Yeah, player base is rapidly declining (as in number of new players), but game won't die because of that, there's still group of fans which will support the game. But in current state of game (when many major aspects of game just plain suck) it will not grow.

I have around 450 hours of game time in PoE and for that, I gave GGG around 30 bucks, solid game time.

But for now, I'm done with the game, while it's fun to make alts all the time and try builds, it's only fun for so long and it always ends at The Wall where you're just not able to progress by doing ARPG stuff and you have to do trading sutff.
TBH if I wanted to do market stuff, I would resub to EvE, that's how trading / market should be done and that's the game where trading is actually fun. PoE should at least get some in game tools to help trading, but no, GGG rather spend time on insane bosses whom completely devaluate old bosses (Piety / Dominus are laughable compared to some of the corrupted bosses / exiles lately).
