does GGG even ban RMTers

"
Seems to me the most reasonable thing to do would be to play the game as PvE and not give a damn about any "competitive" aspects of it. Time to say it again: if one wishes to compete, there are many excellent PvP-based games. And, again - short-term races look like a good alternative if someone is hell-bent on competing in PoE.

There is some level of competition even in a pve game be it pride or the idea that your time investment is rewarded with something meaningful and tangible and not something that can be bought a cheater who invested non of that time and effort.

PoE PvP will never be about tactical, strategical, reactionary skill so there is really not much competition there either and you can be sure full fledged pvp will be a boon for rmt sellers because pride is what youre competing for. Why else do people spend hundreds of dollars to rmt pvp gear when only a tiny portion of the community even pvps at this point?

Sometimes I think Nephalim is the only person on forums that could truly understand me and my concerns about RMT. There are just very few people trying to work against RMT, no idea why nobody seems to care about RMTers buying into a competetive game. It has alrdy destroyed the game for me...
I didn't write this to somehow defend RMT. I wrote it as a short explanation on why expecting to have serious competition or draconian measures against RMT in an aRPG is unrealistic.

I was merely suggesting what, to me, seems like the most reasonable and healthy state of mind one could have regarding this game.
You have to be realistic about these things.

Deterrence doesnt solve the problem but its certainly going to make an noticeable impact. At the very least, banning the top 10 rmters on standard would liberate likely over 800,000 exalts from the economy.

So true. Honestly, just check and investigate on the 50 richest people in the game. You will have a lot of surprises...

Correct. Just look at their forum history. it will be something like this:

First relevant Thread: Found a Mirror. Next Thread: Mirror Service for perfect 6L Astral. Next Thread: Thanks for Mirrored Sword. Next Thread: WTS GGG Endgame Gear (including a 6L Death's Oath)

All of this within 2 Weeks after starting to play the game.

Yes, this is a real example ... and the person is not banned. Of course not.

You're an idiot if you think RMT (or other form of external currency exchange) does not affect you the moment you open the trade window to trade with other player. Keep deluding yourself though if you want.

Now, if you play (and plan to keep playing) isolated from the rest of the playerbase, all fine, then RMT won't affect you. But take in mind, this is not how most people play and is not want GGG intended, as much as I hate trading instead of just killing stuff, unless you are willing to invest an unreal number of hours most people can't, if you want to keep building your character (and xp'ing) beyond act 3 merciless, you are pretty much forced to interact with other players. And so, RMT/FG will affect you, whether you admit it or not.

The 'War on RMT' pretty much like 'war on drugs', can't be won, the objective though should be minimize the impact it has on legit players instead of reinforcing the feedback loop that makes it worse. GGG though does not give a fuck because they fear 'people will leave the game', 'community will be fragmented' etc. so it's important to keep the façade of the 'War on RMT' to keep player trust, while the edifice is rotting and crumbling inside, and then as playerbase let's pretend the damage is not there and all it's fine, but when you need constant resets and leagues start dying after pretty much 1-month it's all good lol.

Come on, what a joke.

A "war on RMT" is pointless as long as GGG continue to make design decisions that nurture and foster RMT, and even (more or less indirectly) reward those who RMT. Considering this, a "war on RMT" would seem silly.

There will always be people who RMT. But there might be fewer if you didn't get a t-shirt for doing so, or if crafting a nice piece of gear (or even 5/6Ling an item) wasn't so out of whack in terms of required time investment.

It's like the government handing everyone $500 for having public sex in the streets, and then launching a war on voyeurism.
Sir's. What does RMT even stand for?

Lot of truth spoken here. Thx!

But even if you play selffound, if you try to compete with people once (PvP) or play in a group RMT instantly affects you as you can't compete with anyone who bought into this game.

Bring on the self found leagues so we can have a legit ladder for once. It's the only way.

I never saw SFL that way and never liked the idea but you definitely have a point.

GGG has explicitly said they will not consider SFL (and BoA) due to the fact they feel trading is a crucial element of the game.

Bring the self rmt league on : best league.
