IIRC in hell mode certain boss monsters had a chance at dropping a specific unique esscence. If you had 4 of them, they can be placed in the horadric cube and transmuting them would allow the player to respec again.

Y my bad, the überquest was for the torch.

There was the uber quest too, however here's the 1.13 respec I was remembering:

"
The second way to get a respec is to obtain the four essences as random drops from the Act Bosses.
Twisted Essence of Suffering from Andariel or Duriel
Charged Essence of Hatred from Mephisto
Burning Essence of Terror from Diablo
Festering Essenece of Destruction from Baal

Combining this four objects in a Horadric Cube will create a Token of Absolution, granting the desired respec

at least for me and people like me who loved the hardcoreness of D2.

You know that Diablo 2 has unlimited respects too for almost 3 years (march 2010)?

Is that why you played it...because of full respects?
Some people had fun with the game without any respects.
You will find some of them in this game.

I don't think there should be full respects, but it would be cool to reassign your last point if you were to accidentally click on the wrong node if you have yet to leave the passive skill tree. Maybe make it so you can reassign all your skill points before hitting level 10.

Happened to me one time, but there are so many respec points...
You must make terrible mistakes to use them all up.

Your solution sounds good, but you reach level 10 so fast that you don´t waste much time by building a new char. It could also be unfair in 3h-races.

I played D2 from 2000-2010, but I like the idea of being able to respec with the 1.13 patch.

thats half the fun for me, I know I've alrady messed my build up. Once the end game mechanics are known by more people, I will just research and re roll.
Rampage IGN: RIP_Stannis_Baratheon
If you bork your character beyond all recognition - take the time to understand what you did wrong, and roll a new one. Believe me - the game police will not be knocking on your door because you screwed it all up.

Experiment. Try new builds. See what works and why, and what doesn't work and why not.

It's really the only way to develop builds.
In other games - you get a cookie whether you win or lose. PoE not only takes your cookie and eats it in front of you, it slaps you upside the head a few times for bringing a cookie in the first place.

Everyone has his preferences and that´s ok (what would life be without it).
But you have to accept that they will not change it...because of their game philosophy.

Like in every game some things in POE had/has to be discussed (which happened a lot of times in CB and will happen in OB). But in the end there is a decision by the devs all players have to deal with.

No full respects is a decision made long time ago and they surely won´t change it.
Rather than trying weird/funky builds straight away try building a fairly obvious/standard class to get a feel for the game and skills. Like a marauder or templar for example, they are pretty strong survivability wise and quite forgiving.

This is so true. Being able to respec removes this aspect of the game; the development of personal and unique builds. Respeccing have always been about allowing people who don't know how to develop their own builds to adopt one later in the game when other people have learned the lesson for them.

In the end, respeccing will bring less flavor and a narrower understanding of character builds to the community overall.

Nope, Chris? said they would consider changing the loot system if the playerbase demands it.
