Less RNG in Socket Crafting Please!
There is no crafting in poe, pure blind luck. bad system. time spent\reward ratio is low. Game for no lifers, normal ppl should stay away.

" I'm glad someone gets it. This game is for the type of people who enjoy grinding for hours for that one unique they really want, whether to buy it, or for it to drop (Koam's comes to mind). Other people trying to make the game cater to them will only be disappointed. Whether GGG listens to these type of people or not, they will leave, eventually. It is in their nature. |

This would just make certain orbs essentially useless.
Sure, your sockets= your skills, but just like finding new, better armor, another linked slot is just another increase to your skills. It's not essential past 4, just added bonus. Yea, the current system can be a bit of a drag, but the proposed system is swinging too far in the opposite direction. |

" Grinding is fun. Right clicking orbs is grinding, therefore, it should be fun. :| Also, if you are excessively right clicking orbs to get gear, you are doing something wrong. Trade is there for a reason... Sites direct you to what you want with relative ease... The actual bartering aspect can be done fairly easily as most people aren't ... lacking intelligence. Not saying some people aren't hard to deal with, but they aren't the majority either. |

" Nope I specifically said grinding mobs is fun for a reason. It is. Its all in the delivery of the grind and the orb system is not a good delivery method. |

" I'm as old school as it gets at my 35 age and playing games since ZX 81/Spectrum/C64 etc. I had CPU's from almost all Intel generations, since 80286, and constantly played RPGs when I could find them. I did things the hard way since forever, including typing the code of the game each time I powered on my no storage ZX81 "computer". Yet, I despise the full RNG "crafting" system. It was a novelty for me, courtesy of PoE. Real-life friends to which I recommended PoE disliked it as well, and they are in their 30s themselves, and a few I know from when we had to meet in the town to exchange C64 game tapes... So I really think this is not about generations/schools, this is just how the usual Diablo fan sees things vs the normal RPG fan, from what I see in these forums. Also, there is nothing wrong to embrace some mechanisms that new games brought to us. We all know many seemingly intended harsh mechanisms in early games were because technical limitations, or well, because nobody had yet thought of a better way. Nostalgia is perfectly fine (I re/play old stuff rather regularly, thank you GOG!), but so is looking to the future... The RNG exists in other (A)RPGs as well, yet it is nowhere that gamebreaking as in PoE, because, well, games can be exploited, to be honest. Fast examples: Sacred's "Bravemart" and quest rewards saving/loading. Conclusion: people always tried to bypass the RNG. To those that think at this mechanism, it's a pretty shallow way to prolong a game life. Not OK in 2013 any longer. These days, we do it by releasing new content, not slowing what we have to a mindnumbing grind through all kinds of unavoidable annoyances. placeholder for creative sig Dernière édition par Undon3#5633, le 5 avr. 2013 à 06:26:03

To anyone that claims that how PoE does it is hardcore or old school or how arpgs do it:
Sorry but that is not true. I played Diablo 1 and it had less RNG even with its you need to find skills and upgrades to skill to use them. Diablo 2 is the perfect aRPG even to this day and it had nowhere near the amount of RNG PoE does. This amount of RNG in PoE is not hardcore, old school or how aRPG games do it. It is just BAD. " Honestly the orb system is a good idea in theory. Let players individually reroll certain elements of gear that drops so they can more easily attain that perfect item they are after. Unfortunately because they chose to tie skills to gear (also a fun unique idea) it forces you to rely on RNG for how you play the game rather than simply your power level. A simple change to a few orbs however garuntees that every player mid to late game is running 4 and six socket gear across the board, meaning they don't have to change up their skill set every time a better piece of gear drops. No one wants to acquire a new skill only to be forced to drop it later because of gear. Its not a fun mechanic. Dernière édition par Loki421#6919, le 5 avr. 2013 à 08:04:38
