Its Time To Stop Having 3 Month Leagues

I was just having this conversation with a friend.

We came to the conclusion that the 3 month league business model is just plain bad.

I love the beginning of a league, as do the friends I play with. We hit the game very hard, and usually slow down or stop playing at the one month point. In the following two months, even if we want to play PoE, there is nothing interesting worth investing any time into. So, everytime I have the thought "I wonder if there is anythign cool going on in PoE, I want to play some ARPG!". I look at the website, see there is a near dead league going on and go elsewhere.

3 months is too long.
2 months would be much better, but still feels a bit long when not interested in that leagues mechanics/challenges.
I really love the 1 week, 2 week, and 1 month flashback leagues when those happen. Short, engaging, more fun than a standard league due to the crazy mods on every single area. (helps make that mindless grind to 68 while repeating the acts much less..... god awful, for lack of a better term.)

Heres another thing i really dont understand.

Why does GGG have a "hardcore" plain server which holds less then 1% of the total pop...

Instead we should have multiple leagues available for example

Lets say GGG releases 2 3-month leagues with an expansion

After 2 months pass a 1 month temp league or something should be released to allow players who are sick of the 3 months to be able to enjoy the game.

Just throw away the HC server and import all the HC items/characters back to SC Standard.

I wish we could have 2 month leagues, 1 months are too short and feel more like a race, but 3 months are wayyyyyy too long.

You crack me up dude.

That hardcore server isn't a dedicated anything, its not like GGG having a regular hardcore league is holding them back from doing anything you want them to do. So no, its not just throw away the HC server and import them into SC standard. Why would a hardcore temp league character just be dumpstered to standard, instead of remaining in HC, but hey fuck anyone that doesn't play the way you do, right?

In terms of multiple leagues available, they stopped that when they stopped having different SC and HC temp leagues. They aren't about to start again just because you ask them nicely, they simply don't have the time to put up a good league, with an expansion every other league with doing 2 leagues per, so they dropped to one.

If you want a 1 month during the last month of the 3 month leagues, thats fine, that gives people time that are slower to do what they want in the league, that also gives GGG enough time to do their schedule. Just don't ask for anything new, let it just be a rotation of flashback or exile everywhere, stuff that is just set various parameters for the league and be done.

Its also important to remember that the 1 month too short and 3 month too long argument was made before, when the leagues were 4 months long. That last month or few weeks of the league will die down, regardless of when the league ends, pushing the date up sooner because you get bored quicker, doesn't actually do anything but hurt other peoples playstyles, not that you care about that because you basically said fuck all perm HC players.

So take a break if you are bored, there are other games to play after your 2 months is up and you will come back to the next expansion\league that much more hyped to get into it. This is likely the intention of leaving the duration as is.

Remove MF from POE, make juiced map the new MF.
as it got suggested before, to keep temp leagues interesting for longer ggg just needs to release new features gradually after league start to keep it interesting.

kind of how they unintentionally do it with the new channeling skills, they won't be available for the atlas release and people will play new chars using those gems when they got released.
age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!

New skills is fine, but purposely restricting content for later in the leagues is a no go for me.

If it's a no go for Goetzjam, it's a no go for the game.

Make the leagues 6 months I say!

if it looks like a duck, spunds like a duck and tastes like a duck it is a duck. content miraculously getting released when the league needs that bump looks like a deliberate content staggering. DLC..

this channeling skill business will be enough to keep people waiting no matter how good the league is going. and because getting back on the train is difficult many will play just to be ready when these skills hit. it doesnt look nice tbh.

new content could be new prophecies or fated uniques etc - these are a fair game. but new builds based on (pretty much obviously too-)powerful skills is a different ballpark.

anyway. for me the league concept is weird one. concept that forces 'wave' gameplay and does very little to keep the population alive except for the first month of a league. and forget about 'challenge leagues' - recent ones have nothing of challenge in them.
These game are designed to be played in spurts... you play for awhile then get burnt out.. then come back when a new league starts up. PoE starts over 4 times a year so everyone starts on the same foot.

I don't think 3 months is too long. It's just the current game isn't holding everyones interest atm. Hopefully the Atlas/4 Bosses + Shaper will get people back into playing more to get there. Also hoping that the 1% map drop bonuses means I can get red maps more often to attempt.

I wouldn't mind though if maybe the league got spiced up at the 1 month mark and 2nd month. Some mods being thrown into the whole game from previous leagues/races.

The only problem with creating More leagues is that the population keeps getting divided more and more. So for anyone out there trying to trade or group up.. it gets harder and harder to do so.
