Its Time To Stop Having 3 Month Leagues
You have to remember that you need to leave enough time during a league for the development cycle to finish for the next one. Unless you are fine having races and mini-leagues in between with random stuff to occupy you for the next actual league.

While I would personally enjoy shorter leagues, its not fair to expect them to push out new content/expansions every two months. And frankly, very few people would play standard/hc for 1-2 months if there was that much gap between leagues.

Hell no.
- If you do not want to get "this character is not logged in" all the time, use the "online only" flat in poe.trade ..... You might get the message sometimes, it probably means that the player just logged out, nothing like somebody that just stoped playting a long time before I stil trade sometimes, I almost never ever get that message. On a side not I'm not brainlessly spamming people, I'm not a d**k. - Not everybody has a ton of time everyday to spend on the leagues, 3month is good for casual gamers to try to reach something in the league ! 2 month would be too short, definitely too short. I would like the 3month + 1month off or 4month with the last month racing, it would give more time to breath in between leagues. - It's asking too much. It's already been said, but GGG is releasing an expansion every 2 leagues, and even disregarding this, every league needs special development anyway, 2 month would probably be very short for this. "back on standard" ???? What the hell, some people are always playing in standard. - You are wrong about streamers, plenty of streamers were participaing in the race yesterday and the day before. SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.

The question is, what for this game need something as league at all. Dividing playerbase that is already small doesnt sem like great move. Leveling all the time from 1 to 100 isnt interesting activity for many players (maybe thats why playerbase is so low comparing to the game potential), especialy when there is just like 10% new content only each time. GGG create by leagues forced replayability to the game, forced because they put new content there with new op items.
So by logical standpoint, if you count the pros and cons, leagues should never exist. |

" - Most of the players seem to want to reroll, and is doing it every league. - Need for fresh economy ( which matters a lot ) - Ladder - The new content affects the whole league in various ways. - You can always just play standard and keep going with it, you will get the expansion with everybody else every 2 leagues. What you just said is from your interpretation of what would be a logical standpoint. From mine ( and apparently GGG's ), not having league would be a disaster for the game. SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading. Dernière édition par Fruz#6137, le 22 août 2016 à 01:12:36

" well.. you might be messing the 'effect' with the 'cause' people 'want' to reroll? id like to do a test and create a NEW league with ZERO new features. a Standard-Bis. where the ONLY reason to play it is 'reroll' and 'new economeh'. I expect that it would be quite empty pretty quickly. ladder.. who cares. really, who cares except few guys that made POE their income source? do you know what position you are on the ladder? i sure dont. most players also do not know. for me players play leagues because it is the only way to get something new - standard has been neglected for long, new cool items (strong selling point) and mechanics were league only and are only now being re-introduced into the core game (beyond as a map mod, warbands/tempests with prophecies, prophecy as a whole). the rerol and new economeh are just perks (vices or virtues..) of it being a new league. not the reason to play it. and it is ofc a league suggested to new players. the 3 month cycle and 'forced exclusivity' is a MtG concept. but given these games are different it might not be as effective as with a card game. leagues cannot be shorter because it means that stuff that players are working for is taken away from them even quicker. there is no permanency and if there is no permanency and the game does not defend itself good enough - then there is even less reason to spin the hamster wheel (startin from scratch time and time again). and there is the point - the game does not defend itself well enough to stay relevant without forced restart and bribe items/mechanics. not to mention that it is strong feedback loop: league dies, new players have a hell of a time getting gear because league died - they leave and the league is even more dead. relying on trade and trade only for gear is a double edged sword: increases participation when it works but kills it when it doesnt TL;DR: 2month leagues are too short, better to not bother with them at all then. the league concept is a forced 'increase participation' spell. side note: Essence league just got its strongest lure taken away (easy meta-crafting) and despite having some obviously broken lure/bribe league-only items will be getting the same BIG content as standard. i wont be playing league this time because.. why should I? |

Reading the OP, it seems to me the underlying issue is not league length, but the crappy trading system?
Anyway, shortening the leagues even further would just tax GGG devs even more, forcing the production of new possibly untested, uninteresting, unbalanced content, just because of 2-month schedule. Steamers and overachievers will be bored after the first month anyway, no matter how long is the league. Most "non-casual" players get burned out from intensive gaming in the first month and that's why they move on to something else. Shortening the league would not fix this. But improving the trading system might fix other related issues. I'm actually in favour of the old 4-month leagues, with more 1-month or X-weeks "races" going in parallel with it. When night falls

" I don't think so. Yes, rerolling is a big part of the game ( especially for HC ), no doubt, and starting from scratch is a completely different feeling. Only top players care about the ladder, but those player do stream, and are advertising for the game which is needed. Of course if a standard bis league was created it would probably not work, because people are lazy, people will always go for the easiest way. Fresh leagues are a push since it has new features also, it is a testing environment too, to know what will stay in the game later on. And the economy is a huge part of why the temp leagues I think, standard's economy is .... just ..... ......... no. A new player starting with no resources on standard will probably have a much more difficult time, unless he already knows people that will give him stuff to succeed. " Same here SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.
