Pros and cons of a casual POE
When it comes down to it, the only thing that really matters to GGG is income. They need to make a game that makes them money. From the charity race, we see that they can turn out $25k in a couple weeks from a limited audience. That kind of income would support about 5 employees.
We really don't know enough about how their money is being made/spent to give them advice about how to market their game. They have that information, and seem rational enough to be acting on it. I wouldn't play on a casual server. It would feel like cheating, and I'd lose interest in the game within the first few weeks of it. I don't trade/mp for the same reason. I have enough personal experience with games to know that once I find an easy solution to a problem, it no longer interests me. |

I don't know what you're calling a "casual player". Someone said in this thread that it is "a person with a job, a life, a family". Many people on my friendlist have a fulltime job and are not 24/7 online during week-ends, and are doing just fine in the game. I personnaly have a fulltime job and a wife (no family yet), hanging out with friends on weekends, and I'm doing just fine. I wouldn't call me "hardcore", neither the friends I just mentionned. But we don't need a "cPOE" to reach the higher levels or very good gear.
So if someone with a job, a family etc. can't achieve something great in the game as it is now, either he 1/ just can't play the game, 2/ play maybe one hour here and there, and in that case he shouldn't expect to be greatly rewarded. I would add that if he is playing only a few hours here and there, it also means he is actually not that into the game, so the lack of rewards shouldn't bother him. There is a huge gap between "Having a life, friends, family, job" and "Please GGG give me more because I can only play 3 hours a week". " There are a lot of small tweaks GGG can do, to make the game more casual-friendly than it is now. Tweaks that would not hurt the hard core gamers (except their e-penis) and their play style. When GGG refuses to even TRY (or come close to try) out some of these tweaks, it tells me that GGG does not want a casual game - at all. Maybe it's true what they tell us: They're making the game THEY want to play. And they clearly don't want to play a game where a casual player can enjoy all the things a hard core gamer can. Why would a PoE2 be any different? Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

I know people with jobs, and kids, that have great gear and are doing maps in invasion league
crybabies are taking over the forums, normal for any game though people that are awesome at the game will thrive and be able to do high level maps and gain fat gearz regardless if they play 2 hours per day or 12 hours a day. Bad players will go on the forums and whine about how unfair everything is instead of putting any effort into learning the game. And you wonder why people with 2+ year old accounts that can't even make it to lvl 90 on standard league are the ones complaining? I bet they know everything about the game and are just so knowledgeable. These are clearly really great players just HELD DOWN by the time constraints they have! I define a casual player an inept one to be honest. Time matters, ok, but if you're a bad player you will be casual no matter what.
I'm sure there are a crapload of players who plays 2 hours a day which have some high level character and has good racing skills. These players are IMO the hardcore ones. The ones that learn from the game and enhances theirselves instead of whining about it and blame the game about everything. On the other hand, i define casual player the one that can't learn from his mistakes. That cannot make good decisions and that has bad reflexes. In short: the ones the bitch about any little bit of difficulty this game offers (see: corruptiong blood whiners) This said, this game is alreayd casual enough. There is no need to make an even more casual league imo |

Well then, I have job, family, kids and hardly too much time to play continuously.
For me, it means that in absolute time (months, years...) it will take me longer to learn the game and its evolution (less plasticity after each patch, later adoption of new trends) but ultimately, it does not prevent me from getting into "end-game". It just takes time and will to learn. During my first "season" I hardly managed to enter maps, always died in some stupid way while playing hardcore. During my second "season" I barely squeezed my character to lvl 80 while so-so sustaining lvl 70 map pool, then switched to softcore league (Domination) because I died to DC again. During my third "season" (this season) I managed to "finish" the build I prepared, reach almost lvl 90, sustaining high lvl map pool and ultimately managed to reach the goal I set for myself - killing Atziri And, mind me, I am still feeling casual, a dirty dad playing in the evening when lucky star allows. I am not sad that Kaoms, Shavronnes or Soul Taker never dropped for me. I do not need those to feel happy with the game. |

" This is the worst post I've ever seen you make, and I've held you in quite high regard until now. This was beneath you. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.
I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period. |

" Yeah. For all its dick waving, that post is the epitome of suck. "Imagining GGG as a cranky hormonal pregnant woman suddenly explains a lot." - CliveHowlitzer
