I gambled and lost. My views on PoE and its randomness
Just to chime in with some more feedback.
I play solo-self found. Yes I'm a masochist. No, I'm not asking for a new league. Just giving the basis of my experience so far. Since my play time in closed beta I have found a few Exalts (12 iirc), 1 Eternal, and a handful of Regals. I have never found what others consider to be GG gear, though I have found a couple nice rares and some decent uniques. I used to be about trying to get as high level as I could and I've hit 70 level maps a few times before map pool disintegrated. I realized then that doing higher level maps just wasn't going to be feasible with my play style so basically gave up on it. What I have done since Domination started is plan out builds. Then level those builds till mid-70's before rerolling and trying a different build. I farm Catacombs and 66-69 maps with the occasional Piety run thrown in. The game is no longer about character progression for me at all. It is about testing new builds. If the build works through Act 3 Merc and lower level maps then its valid. Higher level maps are just a test of gear obtained and I know with my play style I will most likely never get the gear required for them. Does this upset me? Sure it does. What kills me though is how much RNG is involved in the crafting of gear. The fact that I'm pretty much forced to make a farming character (summoner) to enable myself to get gear needed for other builds is a bit much. If the crafting system wasn't gambling at long odds then I would at least be able to make some decent gear. But as it is, I'm forced to farm for the gear because farming for gear has a higher chance of getting the gear needed for my various builds over "crafting" it. Shouldn't it be the other way around? I'm not talking godly gear here. Hell, I'm not even talking about "good" gear here. I'm just talking about gear being able to complete Act 3 Merc and up to level 70 maps. |

" Your post is close to why I would never play like that unless it was a league that was actually balanced for it. Standard Forever

I always get screwed on the RNG.
I have a simple policy for playing new leagues, don't make a build which is heavily gear dependent and nothing which needs more than 4 sockets/links to work well. If your build is cruising fine with 4Ls then that is shit you can easily find/make yourself without breaking the bank. While it is nice to play some builds which is packing a 6L armour and uses very expensive to acquire items, I'd only plan those kind of builds after I have the items. | |
" I think it was NotRegret who completed all acts with only magic (blue) items. I am sure you have better gear than that. |

" always fun pulling NotRegret out of the ass like that, regardless of the actual way he did it, or the fact he is probably a better player than at least half the people playing this game. myself included. and certainly a better trader. this kind of logic astounds me. you must be one of those guys, who like to come into a drop-rates discussion and link their Legacy Kaom's Heart, right? " Not sure what you are saying here - are you saying that getting good enough gear to get past act 3 merc and up to level 70 maps is hard to get? So what that he is a better player - should give you motivation to get better yourself. " Speaking of pulling things out of the ass... but no, I don't play in permanent leagues. |

" I thought he still traded for exactly the gear that he needed to do it... Standard Forever

" To be fair, NotRegret got blues with top rolls through trading. His part about trading for the best blue shield in the league is quite entertaining because of how he describes how good it is. He also included a "rant" about trading and the economy. http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/698071/page/14/#p6158155 " And I agree with johnKeys, even though NotRegret was able to beat Merciless Dominus with only blues doesn't mean everyone should shut up about drops and gear and crafting, etc. NotRegret showed what was possible with the right knowledge, build, and even skill. But it's an exceptional event, not a common one. Afterall, if it's possible to do with just blues, why do we even have rares and uniques in the game? Why not take them out of the game since it's possible for one person to beat the game without them? ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ Give moar Power Creep Pls |

" And what's stopping others doing the same? The game shouldn't be balanced around some players self-imposed restrictions. " I agree that crafting should change - luckily they are changing it - adding more vendor recipes. They make getting mid-tier gear easier. High-tier gear shouldn't be easy to get. " True, but i can bet there are lots of people who have gotten through the game with mid-tier gear. " Very stupid statement. Some people survive only eating bread, should we... no need to go on, I guess you can see how dumb it is already. |

" The point is that a player beating the game with only blues isn't as impressive when its the exact right top rolled gear. Therefore it can still be a valid complaint about not FINDING gear needed to progress. Standard Forever Dernière édition par iamstryker#5952, le 22 févr. 2014 à 05:52:36
