I gambled and lost. My views on PoE and its randomness
" I don't think having access 'at whatever means' is denied. Not by me, at least. My issue is the means. Trading and partying will hand you access to anything, remove most of the RNG, diminish the challenge, the risk and for me.. the fun, shorten the longevity and the potential to retain the player. Not trading or partying will give you access so to speak, but gate the content and the potential challenge behind several more (50? 100?) times that time in the content, farming faceroll content to attempt to enter into the RNG, which just might give access for the converse ratio of time (50th? 100th?). All the while, lessening the potential challenge without even seeing it. For example, Lunaris Piety will eventually outgear you for Shrine Piety and can do so before you even get there, while trying to farm orbs and RNG access. I don't find either of these to be good design. Casually casual. Dernière édition par TheAnuhart#4741, le 22 févr. 2014 à 17:09:25

Well no, not everybody "needs" a lvl 100 character. Lvl 90 for instance is already a rather great milestone.
It is just that it is no FUN to do 125 lvl 68 maps to gain lvl 83 when you start with 0% at 82. Like I mentioned before, I don't think in the same way, it should be easy to get top-roll-mods on your ilvl 77+ stuff with ease. I'm fine with a nice main course of random. But when you have less favorable odds, you now need over 2000 alts to roll that one tyrannical mod, and if your Regal orb then gives you a lvl 0-5 mod (+5 armour, yay!) or something completely useless like light radius, you'd have better ethernalled that! Being unable to progress up through the map pool because you just can't seem to drop appropriate maps is again something that could have been cured by slightly changing the current system. It is just a bit too random. Or actually it isn't because why aren't there lvl 76 maps dropping on lvl 66 map runs? In the same regard, I think there should be a more Risk-Reward situation in Non-Hardcore leagues regarding the XP-penalty. If you are farming for that lvl 90 on low content (Catacombs or something similar) and you wreck yourself on a reflect mob you didn't see; Dang, you just lost the XP of 20 full Catacomb clears. Why not change this to 10*the-xp-of-that-mob-at-your-current-level? That way you punish players that are lvl 12 and are trying to bust Vaal a bit more severe. Or the lvl 70s that are in lvl 74 maps. (They gain XP like crazy, but if they die, they lose a lot too) While that one strange death to a random rare mob in a lvl 67 map as a lvl 85 char wouldn't matter all that much and at least won't set you back 5 times more XP than there was to gain in the first place. |
