Kripparrian is playing poe!!!!
" And TotalBiscuit. And why not Raijin6363, who has been streaming PoE for ages? Where precisely do we draw the line? While I have no issue with the kiwi, clearly, I'm conscious to the fact that favouritism can be inferred from recent events. On the other hand, I'd like to believe none of them are doing it for 'a reward', that being exposed to a cool ARPG and getting to chat with the lead dev is reward enough. I'm a terrible optimist. Or a really good one. Not sure which. And they said *I* was bad at PoE. At least I made it out of act 1 and know how to use the /dnd function. El oh fucking el.

As much as I love the personal touch that GGG has, they ARE in business, and sometimes they have to make decisions that are financially smart. They do have limited funds ( right now ) so they have to be VERY smart about how they get the word out about their game. Many companies spend MILLIONS promoting with TV spots, in store advertising, plastering the whole internet with their banners, but GGG don't really have the pots to follow that sort of model. They have to be creative and maximize returns on expenditure. As someone who spent a good chunk of cash to help support the game I think it is a good thing.
They hypothetical 100 bucks for a silver kiwi is nowhere near as much as a TV ad campaign, or as much as they'd pay to have their banner on even a handful of websites. The returns though will be larger. They have had an opportunity to talk directly to their core market. They have what some people consider an expert on the topic speak highly of the game. They know that this fellow, who more or less represents them, has spoken directly TO a lead developer and brought a lot of the things they are concerned about to said developer and gotten responses and assurances. That sort of thing goes a long way. I only hope that GGG finds other ways to intelligently and economically spread the word and draw in more players. "I would have listened... I would have understood!" - Scion

Well I actually became interested in this game because of krip. Not because I follow his every word but im really turned off by D3...
Krip made a video on this game and it blew my mind. Not what he was saying about it, but just the mechanics behind the game. All the possibilities with weapons, rolls, re rolls not to mention the HUGE skill tree. It really blew my mind. This game has tons of potential! As long as we play people will sooner or later catch on especially if people make youtube vids, like guides and showcasing the game. Might not bring in millions but it'll definitely help. " I think you guys have it all wrong. Afaik GGG did not invite Krip to play POE... He just happened to be playing it, someone posted it here on the forums and Chris, watching the forums, then joined Krip's stream. Anyway, I don't see what the problem is.. you want this game to be good right? Well the company behind it has very little money for advertising so they do what they can to get the word out. Have faith, I believe GGG knows what they're doing. Never wrestle with a pig. You'll only get muddy, and the pig likes it!
Never argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience! "De plumber fixes de sync with de wrench." - Robert_Paulson |

" You guys paid to support GGG. Why are you even looking back or getting concerned about others getting a Kiwi? A kiwi for Chris's sake (bad pun). He just went live now and he's gonna put another 5+ hours of PoE gameplay streaming his Hardcore "Frostwall" Marauder, taking it through Act 1 Merciless, and it's gonna be a lot more fun and interesting to follow him than the other streams I've seen so far. Y-M-M-V! He's not just one guy either! Whatever favoritism you guys have in mind, it applies also to his friends who come up now and then on the stream, comment about the mechanics or go on a wild tangent, making the stream all the more enjoyable to watch. " Naw, it was likely a little more co-ordinated than that. :) __ DeF: I'm...not? Read the entirety of my posts on this thread (if you've a spare day or two). Also, I mostly let kripp's stream sit in the background and glance now and then because I want to see how long he'll last -- I'm storing up a little schadenfreude in that regard. And sometimes I'll throw a key or two at people in the chat. It's a curious event to me, all told. And they said *I* was bad at PoE. At least I made it out of act 1 and know how to use the /dnd function. El oh fucking el.

" I feel like this is going to inflame some people that are sensitive towards PoE criticism, but I love the game so far and only want it to get better. I'm also not blindly devoted to any one game so I can objectively say what is good and what is bad about PoE and other similar game. So Kripp simply thinks the fluidity of the combat in PoE should play more like Diablo 3. There's nothing wrong with that and Chris has actually expressed interest in working on adding that fluid feeling to PoE combat (unless I SEVERELY misunderstood him). If there's 1 thing Blizzard has over every other company making online games it is that their games are ridiculously silky smooth. They have absolutely nailed that. Besides the actual smoothness of the gameplay, there's depth to the combat mechanics between you and monsters in D3, something else that PoE is missing. You can argue about how much or how little skill is involved with something like Arcane Beams in D3, but it's a great example of adding another layer of depth to combat. PoE is very simple when it comes to the actual combat. There isn't much going on and there isn't much skill. It's almost all "toe to toe" type fights with no need for much movement. This is compounded by the slow nature of the gameplay. But hey, if that's the designers prerogative, more power to them. If they want almost all of the depth and challenge to be with the theorycrafting, gearing, and building of a character then that's their right. Doesn't mean me or Kripp can't have an opinion about it and it DOESN'T mean we don't love the game still and it DOESN'T mean that Kripp wants to turn the game into D3. There's nothing wrong with looking at what one game has done right to form your opinion of another game. So that's his opinion on the combat and it's what he means when he says "clunky". It's one opinion I and many people actually share, and like I said, we brought it up to Chris when he was in Mumble chat on Kripp's stream and he acknowledged it to a degree. So Kripp is not trying to turn PoE into D3, he has actually praised many things PoE has done as forward thinking and extremely fresh and new. " Well, yeah... He has admitted this. He's a total noob atm like everyone was. I'm sure you thought something about a game once that turned out to be wrong, you just didn't have 2000 people watching. The way he used the word bug was actually in context of an old D2 "bug" having to do with requirements, which he explained that's why he said it shortly after. " Maybe that's how you would do things but he's just a normal guy. He doesn't hold back his opinion, good or bad. I'm kind of befuddled you could even think this. His viewership is pretty consistent and steady no matter what he's playing, most people are fans of HIM, not the game he is playing. That is the case with most famous youtubers. It's the personality more than the game. You don't have to "switch" games either. "Ignore" his other videos? Who said every video has to be about the same game? That logic makes no sense. He has been doing the YouTube thing way before D3 and was very well known in WoW. You can be a fan of multiple games at once. He has said plenty of times that he plans on playing games like PoE and GW2 over D3 for now, so I'm not sure where you're getting your information. A lot more people are interested in PoE now due to him also (me included, I actually thought it was pretty bad before I watched him and specifically his YouTube videos praising the things PoE does right compared to D3, you should check those out). |____________ G .
