I don't entirely disagree with you, man. I just wanted to say, as someone who did grab the kiwis, I have no real problem with the idea of someone who didn't buy one directly getting one because he supported the game in a less direct but still clearly financially-positive way.

I agree, this nicely sums up my view on the issue.

kripp is the only reason i found out about the open weekend
IGN: NotBuyingWards
<3 kripp my fave live streamer
~~Bronze supporter,Metal listener~~
His video was the reason I bought the Beta key. Might be an interesting channel for marketing of this game.
Also bought the beta because of Kripp and getting very bored with D3.

Since then, he has made multiple youtube video and sent even more traffic our way. This is very, very good for the future of the game! I am very thankful and I hope our fans are as well :)

I am! Never watched Kripp before but I can see why he's popular. He's both a good player and fun to watch. Holy cow!! ;)

He's streaming Merciless with his Hardcore Marauder tonight I think? Curious to see how far he goes.

I completely agree with your sentiment. There was a lot of discussion about this in the office at the time. I really do not want to dilute the value of the kiwis, so I can assure you that this will only happen in very discretionary circumstances. You'll notice he was given a Silver kiwi and not a higher tier one.

Also, it is worth noting that while he hasn't personally sent us money, he has put a substantial amount of time into promoting the game, which is definitely of value. His viewers have probably contributed thousands of dollars by now, at least. Such promotion helps the entire community by guaranteeing that there will be funds available for continued development.

Hey I play this game over steam so all my friends can see I'm playing "Path of Exiles!" A few have asked, what's that game?! And voila, le redirect! xD
I did not know who this guy was until recently. He is really cool and reminds me of angry joe. I like the quotes that I have gotten from this "pro gamer"...

"Path of Exiles customization is mind blowing"

"Path of Exiles item progression is incredible"

It helps when talking to people who respect him and who refuse to try POE themselves :)
Standard Forever
My previous posts may have been a bit snarky and for that I apologize.
But I am still very much disappointed in this news.

With all the fans out there and twitch streamers to chose from it just had to be krip that got singled out this way. There are many out there that are paying for beta keys just to give them away free, just to get the word about this game out. Guys that love the game, not love the hits streaming generates. Guys that will be here when tl2 and gw2 hit regardless of who else is around. Out of all these people, krip gets the free ride. I guess I just expected more from GGG then that

I'm not sure I'd call it a free ride, man -- he had to put up with TOG and actually be pretty good at it, after all. ;)

All jokes aside, I am fairly sure that GGG has offered a 'free ride' to just about anyone with enough exposure to generate more players. For all we know, maybe they've been trying to snag Kripparrian for a while, and I do recall Chris rather incisively asking the dude on-stream, 'so why didn't you play our game before?'...this implies to me that the offer has been there for at least a little while.

So it's not that Kripp got singled out -- he singled himself out by doing something note-worthy. The egg came before the chicken here.

It would be a little naive to think that GGG aren't willing to throw some keys at people who can ultimately make that 'generosity' pay off.

The current 'value' of beta keys is going to plummet come Open Beta anyway. I'm not convinced we should look at it the same way as giving away 'copies of the game' itself, if you get my drift.

And I'm sure you know that game companies give review copies of their games to journalists and reviewers ahead of release, right? Kripparrian's playing of PoE right now is really no different in my opinion.

Please don't 'expect more' from GGG, Fayul. The end result of this sort of thing is an improved Path of Exile with even more support.

Isn't that exactly what we want from them?

And they said *I* was bad at PoE. At least I made it out of act 1 and know how to use the /dnd function. El oh fucking el.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.
