What's the point of spending 100s hrs building your character to eventually ditch it?!

Standard is fine but you just need to wait for around 1.1 for more players to join. I played POE1 for over 20k hours and around 95% of that time was in Standard.
It's fun having stuff like this from 2014. It was nerfed 3 times afterwards. Current max is 12% and 6%. |

How is it worthless, the worth is in the fun you have while bulding the character and messing with the new stuff.
People are different but after 10-15 days playtime on one charactet I want to try new builds and new mechanics. |

It's not everyone's cup of tea, I imagine there are at least a few serial killers who only play in standard.
Aside from the act of playing the game, leagues are for the joy of character building. |

" Welcome to the world of ARPGs...you practicaly criticize a recipe that works very well for over 2 decades now. So what's the point to play video games in general?.....Exactly, to have fun. If this style of gameplay is not fun for you, they're a lot of games on the market who don't have such seasonal system. I don't like to drive a car in circles to reach rank 1 f.e., only to repeat the same process after 15 minutes to achieve the same goal....therefore I don't play car racing games, it's that simple. The main thing about seasons/leagues/ladders in ARPGs is the reset of the economy....everyone and his cat (yes Rue is a cat) start at 0 and everyone has the chance to become super wealthy in an fresh economy environment. That's harder up to impossible in this type of games without any economy reset through seasosns/leagues....the currency devalues from day to day, means without frequent resets in economy through seasons/leagues endgame items on the market would be super expensive and only affordable for those who play POE 24/7. Plus it's super fun to start at 0 esp with friends (at least for me and probably all who love "POE like" ARPGs)....that's the time where everyone theorycraft starters 1 week before reset, where the FL fills up, etc... And you mostly have some kind of "mini race" with friends/guildies who will find the first Exalt, first Divine, etc......It never gets old, even after my alsmot 30 years in this genre. Btw you don't lose any progress....everything you find with your seasonal character will be transefer to non season. What I do here is that I develop 1 non seasonal character to equip him with very good -perfect gear and use my seasonal character to farm this gear. Now you can argue that you don't like to play the campaign over and over again but for me and many others thats also a part of the challange....Instead of complaining some simply practice how to beat the campaign afap to reach the endgame (or like me just chill, play relaxed & enjoy every part of the game while having fun with friends). Starting from scratch was always a part of this genre and it's one of the main reasons why 1000ds of players love it. ;) Dernière édition par CroDanZ#1818, le 30 sept. 2025 à 06:56:38

" But we are not playing video game here, we are collecting items, sell, then repeat... how is that playing ARPG? its repetition to the same game endlessly. " How about to make actual mini games/race instead? Keep all that seasonal stuff you like, but with a side quest/server/world/league where you can fight with others against computer, or against each other (PVP) or something NEW and creative... and actually PLAY a video game, not play an item collection sim? All seasons hardliners repeat the same argument without understanding my point, as if I am speaking to a record on loop (no wonder you like repetition) What I am saying, basically, is to PLAY ARPG and fight with my characters rather than only collecting items in the same map with 99% of the same scenario, then expect me not to be bored! I hope that makes sense |

Video games are just mindless entertainment to pass the time, just like watching t.v. or reading a book. I think that should answer any questions you have.
It's not that deep. B E E F

What's the point spending 100 hours playing a Final Fantasy game if you're just going to walk away and never touch it again when you beat it. Lol

" Which would you prefer, to play in order to achieve best build then delete, or play to achieve the best champion in the game that no one could beat? To be the undefeated Pillikano, or Pillikano who finished a season in 1 week and had 10000 divs? The game is not only making builds, its also gaming skills that includes dodging, quick reflexes and being smart in tweaking your build.. This is the essence of ARPG. |
