Dx11 is unplayable AND looks worse.
" Emphasis being "on other stuff". They made a business decision to abandon support for those with older hardware because they want their game to be played and dis-played by people with decent gaming rigs because that's probably where the money is and because that makes for better optics. So it's not totally vanity, but it's definitely an image thing, too. Do I have a right to having support for my hardware extended forever? No. Can I still complain about it when they cut support? I sure hope so, otherwise nothing would ever change in my favor. |

Whatever I do with my graphics setting in game and card manager, my fps is twice lower than it used to be before 3.6. Since I had to go bone minimum to get even that, it's slideshow and those slides look bad.
So yeah - I agree with OP; both play and look went down. Of course I could probably spend money to buy serious gaming rig... but tbh tdo you serousle ggg want to deal only with player-as-an-occupation no-lifers? My laptop is strong for all non-poe activities and I will rather stop playing poe than buy poe-dedicated computer |

After playing around with graphics setting a little bit, I really want to give a thumbs-up for how much they improved Dx11 performance. I guess my days of lag-free Oriath are over for the foreseeable future, but other than that, it's definitely playable, it looks a lot prettier and just performs really well. So I'm not just complaining, I do appreciate all the hard work that goes into the game.
But I'm lucky that Ivy Bridge supports Dx11 and not all my potato brethren have that privilege. Also, I really do miss the option to dial down on prettiness in favor of performance that I had with Dx9. If you can spare the resources somehow, GGG, there's a lot of people who would really love to have that option back. It would be super cool of you to do that. |

GGG shouldn't focus on people with computers that are old and obsolete. There is zero reason for them to. I'm coming up on 4-5 years with my laptop and PoE runs fine. Expecting a game developer to just stagnate and keep everything the same so that people on potatoes can run everything is foolish. You can buy a computer that runs PoE for <$500.

" My "obsolete" computer carried me to Diamond 3 in League and to the rank before global elite in CS:GO, so excuse me for not seeking fault primarily with my hardware here. The difference between those games and the current version of PoE is that these games allowed me to go as potato as I wanted, no matter the Dx version, whereas PoE only had some legacy potato in Dx9, but is now actively discouraging people from dialing down the prettiness in Dx11. In that sense, they are focusing on people with old computers; they are focused on discouraging them from playing. While a lot of us potato princes would love to have Dx9 back, even an option to turn off the shadows in Dx11 would help immensely. The decision to not even give that option has everything to do with vanity and nothing to do with practicality. |

" ![]() Your journey is almost over. You're somewhere between Bargaining and Testing using this model. Once you've reached Acceptance, realize that the game will still be here when you have upgraded or replaced your PC. If you want help choosing parts that get you the most bang for your budget, reach out. I'm sure there are people here that can suggest the most economical way to get back into the game while providing enough headroom to stay in the game for a while. " This is a valid point. The option to disable certain effects so people can increase performance should be there. However, I think trying to get GGG to add DX9 support back into their engine is asking too much. There are two types of POE players:
1) Those who want to walk uphill both ways barefoot on broken glass wearing a blindfold 2) F*cking noobs I identify as transnational Chinese. May I have access to their QOL features, please? |

There is a recent windows update which came out a few days ago which has known issues with graphics performance and input lag; might want to check that out as well.

" Try the advice before you spit on it... Might also want to look at who your at talking to when you say they dont know what they are talking about.. I actually have a "Decent" PC nothing special but no bullshit either and with GTX1050ti If i run that shit it makes my game run WORSE!!! Its just that simple. GTX760 same thing. Not to mention i just dont like the way it looks when im mapping some crazy hyper dense maps and that shit make everything blend together.. It doesn't mess with every Config. You can have a good PC and this is still an issue just as much as having a shit PC and it still an issue.. It can and will make some configurations run noticeably worse.. You give no other helpful information like what server is this on? Whats your Ping to this server? Have you tried another Server? (Which absolutely works BTW if the game runs like total shit, crashes, ect) You have given us zero information on your Specs or Config (And im pretty sure i know why..) I mean your not even trying the advice your being given to start with so im not even sure how much effort your willing to put in to solve your issue in the first place.. Yet you expect GGG to put double the effort in to keep TWO versions of the game running on the Engine? Sounds about right these days.. There is a fine line between Consideration and Hesitation.
The former is Wisdom, the latter is Fear. |

" ... "other stuff" being partly optimizing DX11, increasing the quality of the graphics, or performances, or just adding new elements to the game ... " You realize that LoL/CS's main selling point is NOT the graphics at all, that the systems are relatively simple and the elements to display are significantly fewer ? " Whatever dude, you're free to keep being not pragmatic and not realistic, and not actually seek help by providing information that could help some people help you. Or you can just keep spending time complaining here (knowingly that you won't get anything out of it). It's not my problem after all. SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.

I feel ya OP, I'm at the edge of being able run this game, it's so poorly optimized and the most important thing that people in this topic don't get is the fact that they are forcing shadows enabled. What other games do this?
I guarantee if they allow shadows to be disabled, you'll be able somewhat to run this game again even with dx11, the only option is play afk build that can tank through several hits while your screen freezes. @OP there's gotta be a way to remove shadows somehow, you might wanna look for it if the only other option is quitting, I wish you best of luck. I understand your feelings, it sucks that GGG did this bullshit. |
