Dx11 is unplayable AND looks worse.

im with you here.
this decision will completely erase the game when the next good arpg stepps into the market and can bring some good performance.
i have a good pc with a gtx1070, a ryzen (oc) and 16gb ram and i cant play in groups without the feeling of playing at a gameboy. i play hc only and the feeling is worse after cutting dx9.
there are just 3 options:
-bring back dx9
-do a massive overhaul in performance
-let your game get eaten by the next release....

I was playing poe with a ryzen 1600 with a gtx 660 then a 1050ti and never had issues. You have a pc similar to mine, you even have a better gpu than what i have right now (gtx 980) and i have 0 issues running the game, barely have any fps drops. Maybe check your drivers/updates, even try to do a clean windows installation and make sure to install poe on a ssd (this is one of the biggest things you can do for poe. Grab a cheap ssd for like 40$.

If you are refering to playing in 6 man party spamming shit non stop with mtx... yeah it uses dynamic resolution. In 3 man party never happened

i have a ssd....
for you its maybe fine, for others its not.
not a single person that plays poe with me likes this and we all will switch the game when something good will come out when nothing changes.
im not a fanboy dude. i play games that are fun and running fine.
this decision is not about an improvement. its a business decinion that cuts my fun to improve theyr income. i pay for games that i like, hundreds went into poe from my side but i wont pay a single penny again after this.

To lighten the mood - I upgraded my PC few days ago, can play modern games on Ultra again (~temporarily, that is).

PoE still stutters very badly in town. Just the way things are.

I hope all the DX9 folks find a way to make it work for them.
Bonus story : Upgrading my connection had order of magnitude better effect on ingame FPS (!! not latency, I said FPS and I mean FPS) than any PC upgrade to date. Take what you will.

The connection thing is true. You can get fps spikes from your client waiting from instructions from the server. This can get worst with more players in the party , this is also way worst if there's a summoner in your party (not sure if they fixed this yet but they did improve it before). It used to crash instances or disconnect players sometimes.
I recommend for players that play together in a party to all be on the same Gateway if possible.
lemor, these new crashes off dx11 have nothing to do with ssd or cpu

poe is notorious for cpu load, but this aint it

ssd - IVe had ssd for ages, and I have a nvme one that is lightning fast

zones load lightning fast, still. Im at 10ms ping and I have zones load off ssd faster than any streamer I see.

its not the load times lag, or cpu lag. those are clearly noticeable in other circumstances

its crash on load/zoning in or lag/crash after crazy dense area zoning

plus ugly uncaught c++ exceptions of stl lib like vector length (lol)

We live in the era of plug-and-play and ease of use and superfans on PoE forums casually recommend setting up a new operating system to try and fix GGG's aspirational game design, lol.

Even the thing about checking your drivers. I was trying to recall the last time I updated my graphics drivers to alleviate some software problem, since my graphics work fine for most everything I do, and I'm pretty sure it was something PoE-related 2 or so years ago, too. Why is this game forcing users to become hardware technicians and not all these other games?

And why is it then destroying the knowledge we gathered in order to play it by disabling the option to use it? It feels very punitive.

It's sadly the nature of online games, they constantly evolve and with that the demand to keep ones PC "up to date".

Now that doesn't mean that one needs to buy a new PC every year but at least every 5 or something like that. And update the drivers at least once a year.
That usually makes ones experience much smoother then treating the PC as an XBOX and never touching it.
Once every 5 years?????????? PoE cant even compare to the current most demanding games. And I mean that it is way more demanding than all of them. We are not talking about updating every 5 years or even one, we are talking about updating every 3 months because either the new league mechanics will be unoptimized as hell(betrayal) or they'll make the boneheaded move to update to DirectX 11 like they did now.

PoE for what it is should not require the resources it does. It has nothing to do with PC maintenance or knowledge.

Been on the same computer for like 6~7 years (was not amazing to begin with), only added a new correct graphic cards couple of years ago, and PoE runs smoothly enough for me to play HC.

Not saying that it's very well optimized at all, but every 3 month ? come on .... ffs
SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.

Doesn't run the best for me. Just the way it is. I play other stuff now.

Whatever I do with my graphics setting in game and card manager, my fps is twice lower than it used to be before 3.6. Since I had to go bone minimum to get even that, it's slideshow and those slides look bad.
So yeah - I agree with OP; both play and look went down. Of course I could probably spend money to buy serious gaming rig... but tbh tdo you serousle ggg want to deal only with player-as-an-occupation no-lifers? My laptop is strong for all non-poe activities and I will rather stop playing poe than buy poe-dedicated computer

Apparently I owe GGG an apology - after I dug a bit deeper I realized my processor started overheating recently, severely limiting performance. After I fixed that POE went back to normal.... and it looks better I admit
For me it freezes in fullscreen mode every 30min.

But plays fine in windowed fullscreen.

Performance is acceptable.
I dislike rarity so much im almost quitting poe2. GGG.
