Is Melee bad???
" I don't know. Usually i start every league with max block bleed gladiator and it clears every map very fast with ease, including shaper. I bet other 1h and 2h builds could do that as well |

The melee is bad comments are from players who expect to push one button to blow up entire screens at once.
Melee may not be the fastest, or easiest builds, but they can clear maps and bosses. |

Good lord, I am not sure this is a lot of people just trying to convince themselves that it is "okay" to play melee or just a lot of self delusion.
Someone else put this right - sure, play a namelock melee skill and you can do just about anything in game with enough time and patience and a really mirror worthy weapon. And if you enjoy the journey, who is anyone to critique that. All true. But you cannot deny that the core PoE game experience necessitates killing as much as possible as fast as possible to get the best chance at good loot. And playing that slow, plodding melee skill is NOT conducive to that gameplay style. I am in the same boat to a lesser extent - I have and always will play SSF. I build around loot I find, and don't trade. This game's drop rate is balanced around trading, so I knowingly handicap myself. BUt I still enjoy the way I play, so there you go. Just like all the melee supporters. But I do not delude myself into thinking SSF is a "better way" to play PoE, nor even equivalent to the build power I could get with a few simple trades. In the same way, you all cannot delude yourself into thinking melee skills have ANYTHING on ranged or caster builds in this game. It has always been like that, stat sticks allowed some melee skills to start approaching them, and this recent change has now reversed that. |

Melee sux compared to alternatives is all. Spells and Bow. You are safer, do more DPS and clear faster with spells and particularly bows. Some melee skills have some good boss killing like BF or MS but otherwise it 3rd tier.
Stat sticks made melee still 3rd tier but not as far away is all. That does not mean you can't do everything with melee. You'll just do it slower and at more risk and usually cost more. The good unique weapons are lackluster compared to bows so you usually want a GG mirror worthy one adding huge cost to make good melee experience. GGG needs to buff almost all melee skills double % as bows like say cleave does 200-250% of base weapon damage - then we are talking. Git R Dun! TBH - last league, the two build i enjoyed the most were melee. If u can call em that... :D. most skills are semi-melee anyways. We have great support-gems that will make any skill cover half of the screen. Like... i played consecrated path with ~100% inc. AoE. Thats an area almost from top to bottom. And the skill itself teleports you around... And even if it didnt. Movement-skills, when you are buffed up, are lightning fast.
The difference in clear speed, from my exp. ,is of minor concern. And TBH, I didnt like running around with 200% MS with my archer. It began to be "too fast". I know there shouldnt be such a thing, but... Somehow I got annoyed with the hectic blur that the game became. It was tiring. N' Also, I like tanking, or at least I like to be able to take more that 1 hit in a row. Also-also melee skills(eg. blade flurry) have great single target DPS, thus good for bosses. So overall it comes down to your preference in game-play, more than anything :) |

" This, pretty much. Melee is not bad at all, it's just annoying because of GGG's reliance on one-shot mechanics. Melee is simply too up-close-and-personal with those one shotters and, in the graphic spam it's all to easy to miss the wind up. IMO, Melee could be made a *whole* lot easier by having many, if not all, bosses have a minimum range with their screen covering one-shot attacks. Like the second Dominus form that bleeds everything... unless you're standing up close inside the shield bubble. Make more bosses like that and melee would not suck so much. Patch Notes 3.15:
Fixed a bug where players believed the game was playable. This has been corrected and made retroactive. Patch Notes 3.19: Fixed a bug where players adapted to 3.15. This bug cannot be corrected, so we have implemented a 90% reduction in item access as a punishment. |
