Is Melee bad???

I am a new player and never try a Melee build. I want to but I keep on hearing that "Melee is Trash" is it even worth trying? can you map with a melee character? is the game a lot harder if you are playing melee?

melee is fine, as in you can map with melee.

is melee bad? no
is melee worth playing over....anything else? no
Its not bad. People just have unreasonable expectations versus incredibly expensive builds.

I'm mapping using a bleed slayer, doing T16 maps using puncture.

that isn't it. majority of people that play this game like efficiency. min/max, clear speed etc.
melee is then compared to non melee like spells totems bows etc. comparing to them melee is definitely BAD.

on its own melee can work. its fine. but comparing to everything else it is not really worth picking.

has nothing to do with how expensive anything is. i'd argue you need much more investment into melee builds than choice ranged/totem builds to reach the same power, in fact
It can do all content.

But it's slower, less efficient and more expensive than any other choice.
Melee is bad when compared to other arche-types simply because of it's inherent nature and the game mechanics offering zero to none bonusses for being melee.

You can do all content with them, but expect to

1) invest more currency in the build compared to spell/bows
2) be more exposed to dangerous situations

But if melee is your jam, it's most definatly viable in end-game just harder to pull off early on.

And spell/bow play-styles don't provide that "in your face" feel that melee can give if done correctly.

Everything depends on your goals. If you want to finish campaign, melee is "good". If you want to gain currency thanks to eternal labyrinth enchants trading, melee is good. If you want to facetank some bosses, even Shapers guardians, melee is good.

However, when it comes to clearspeed, MF-ing or endgame bosskilling, melee is... tragic. And without statsticks? Well... you can kill endgame bosses with molten strike, that's all. If MS will be destroyed (and it will be), you can forget about Uber Elder and probably Uber Atz too. Probably, with good gear and very smart build, you can beat Shaper, like I did with "no statstick" cleave dual wielding juggernaut.

Overall... melee is good for labruning and maybe facetanking some bosses. Do not even try it, unless your tactic is "labrunner as leaguestarter".
Pure melee has been weak forever and now even pseudo-melee is weak with the upcoming changes. Next patch the only reason to play any sort of melee is just so you could pretend that you're another Berserker without playing Berserker and [Removed by Support]

Play what you want and don´t listen some elitist.
There are different melee builds you might enjoy.

thank you for the input! i don't care much for min\maxing. Not that am going to play a character with 2 shields but i just want to have fun. grab some chaos on the way and just go with the flow. So thx for letting me know that Melee is not "trash"
