10 Reasons Why We All Play Chaos Builds (Bump if You Hate Reflect)

1. Chaos damage bypasses monsters' energy shields.
2. Chaos Damage Over Time (i.e. Poison) Stacks (unlike unaided elemental status effects).
3. Atziri is immune to chill, freeze, ignite and shock but not to poison.
4. Some of the best weapons in the game are set up for chaos builds (notably, the Voltaxic Rift & Consuming Dark).
5. Chaos damage cannot be reflected.
6. Chaos damage cannot be reflected.
7. Chaos damage cannot be reflected.
8. Chaos damage cannot be reflected.
9. Chaos damage cannot be reflected.
10. Chaos damage cannot be reflected.

Reflect sucks!
Please remove it from the game so can all play physical and elemental builds again. You guys have been pushing reflect form the start. People (myself included) hated the reflect shrines in Domination League so bad and we're happy to see those removed and the group reflect removed as well. But the fact is, reflect is still OP as fuck and kills anyone daring to do the required damage for clearing end-game maps.

So, until reflect gets fixed or goes away entirely, people like me are just going to find a way to avoid it all together using chaos builds. Especially since there are many advantages and no disadvantages to playing with chaos skills over elemental and physical skills.

I'm sure there are plenty more reasons than those I've listed and I'm also certain that there are some viable non-chaos builds but not very many.

Add double dipping and you've got 6 reasons. 10 + 1 = 6, right?

Devil's advocate stepping in...

Chaos Damage Over Time does not necessarily stack (Caustic Arrow clouds do not stack) - your example, poison, does.

Point #5 should probably be revised to one of the best weapons in the game. Consuming Dark isn't necessarily good as a weapon, it just has unique properties that make it useful in the current meta.

Plenty of builds are "viable." Some are just more efficient than others, and Chaos tends to top the list currently.

One disadvantage to Chaos damage is the way resistance/mitigation scales. Point for point, I would venture to say, on average, a point of Chaos damage in a Chaos-centric build (similar vein as Elemental Damage) is less valuable than a point of Physical damage in a Physical focused build, because monsters tend not to have enough armor for large amounts of physical damage to matter much, whereas any chaos resistance they have will affect you adversely.

On a similar note, you can ignore or lower monster resistance moreso than you can Chaos resist through curses and penetration.

I'm not saying Chaos is worse than elemental or physical, just that they there are some disadvantages to Chaos damage currently.

While a lot of people will agree with most/all of your points, you will likely get more and/or better feedback by posting some ideas for suggested changes instead of points most folks are already aware of. Remove reflect is one such suggestion, albeit more of a knee-jerk than some people will go for. There are some decent arguments for having that mechanic in the game. Back to the point though, what changes would you make? GGG can weigh that information against their own ideals/design and use it more effectively than a list of problems.

Yeah, that works :P.

Wow, not sure how I forgot about the Consuming Dark since my trapper killed Atziri at level 80 this league while dual-wielding those daggers :P. Thanks for the reminder.

As far as what I would suggest: remove reflect. It might seem like a knee-jerk reaction but I've been hating it since beta. They've tried to fix it but have just ended up making it less visible (mobs, shrines etc.) and slightly less dangerous to multi-target. Who knows, maybe the death rate is a wash but however that works out, reflect is a mechanic that punishes players for using physical and elemental skills, that is, skills that are not chaos skills.

If removing it is not an option, then give us something besides CWDT + IC to mitigate it.

Also, they've already essentially removed reflect from the game for anyone playing a chaos build, so why bother having it at all unless they're trying to deter us from playing physical and elemental builds?

If the intent of reflect is to prevent players from building characters that do way too much damage, then why not just implement a max damage cap to the game?

Simple solution appears to be, make Chaos reflect ;-)
Capping damage would be a boring solution if you ask me. Reflect adds a new dynamic - you must find a way to counter it (or suffer the consequences). I agree it is a particularly punishing mechanic overall, but I do honestly think reflect in its current form is the healthiest it has ever been.

As a suggestion, I would like to see additional ways to counter reflect. There are not many currently, and it does make things limiting. The mechanic itself is not bad, just the lack of options to deal with it - that's my take anyway. :)

I'm missing the main reason: it's purple.

Agreed, a gem would be ideal - Physical Dissipate & Elemental Dissipate or whatever names.

Let us sacrifice a gem slot to completely negates the reflection.
I've tried to find a single argument in your post as to why reflect is inherently bad.

I couldn't find one besides that you don't like it.
Well Chaos is already fucked so this entire discussion is already moot.

Reflect is good. And now that the conversion will be 'reworked', it can once again shine!
