How the fuck does anyone play hardcore?

Like i said before, sofcore players imagination how ppl are actually playing hardcore really amuses me in threads like this.Amazing.

as someone who plays in hardcore and softcore leagues I can tell you for sure this works in reverse too. when they first introduced dominus had no idea about the blood rain, so when I fought him in act3 normal... RIP. That was the first and last death I have ever had on a proper HC character in this game, Ive never logged out once, dont have a logout macro, I dont die in hc, ever basically, 4/4 hc in 4 days, easy peasy. You know how I play softcore? Exactly the same way I play hardcore. You know what sort of builds I make in softcore? Exactly the same builds I make in hardcore.

The whole hc vs sc thing is nonsense guys, it doesnt matter what league you play in, theres a ton of scrubs in hc who just rip, reroll, rip, reroll... theres a ton of pro gamer no lifers in softcore... all the stereotypes and presumptions people make are bullshit, theres good and bad players in every league, casuals and no lifers, functioning economies. Its just a game, people have different motivations, are trying to achieve different things, theres no better or worse when it comes to what league you are playing in, just ones that suit what you are trying to do.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

Never played standard. All the talk about desync still killing people.. U just need to understand how to avoid it. It is very easy and it does not affect your lvling nor clearspeed in maps endgame.

If you were hardcore, you would have re-rolled already and be back to level 50.

Someday, I hope to have the patience and skill set to do that. I think knowing you can get back to act three merciless without much of a struggle would make HC a lot of fun.

Each time I venture into HC, it gives me more respect for the players that live and thrive there.

Respect for people who alt f4 macro and trade to win? I have more respect for GGG making this game F2P.
Hey, I know how daunting hardcore is in PoE with all the things that can go wrong so the first thing you need to do is work out what's different in hardcore than softcore.

1- If you die you aren't coming back.

Solution- You need at least 4k hp to start mapping (66 zones). (desync isn't a myth. It does happen and when it does you are going to get chunked by at least 1 mob so you need to have the HP to take the hits also you will find exiles so you need to be ready.

2- what skills?

I can't speak for everyone But I'm no pro when it comes to assessing the situation I'm in. I have more fun in softcore as I like to rush through content pushing myself to the limit but when it comes to hardcore I don't want to be dying to reflect or a extra damage, inc crit rhoa so from my only 2 surviving hardcore builds I can say this..

Solution- lvl 84 marauder- dual totems using The Dark Seer (searing bond & Flametotem with culling & IIR/triple curse (enfeeble for tough mobs)/Blood magic/Huge Life regen/magic find 6k HP

lvl 83 duel wield sceptres, Fire trapper Shadow/2-300 life regen (with vitality)/2-300 mana regen/ 5k hp. key skills - vaal storm call linked with Life leech to activate in huge packs or on tough bosses also herald of thunder linked with life leech. 4 insta pots with removes bleed and 1freeze and 1 quick silver. (recommended build)

throw your traps, activate vaal stormcall/desync..do whatever but things burn and proliferate before anything can touch you.

DO upgrade your gear/flasks as you enter new acts. you want 75% on all resists at all times. try your best to make chaos res 0-+ for maps especially in the current hardcore league
(farming spots like ledge/docks is your friend for farming currency to upgrade your gear.

DO pay for a cruel piety/dom kill to guarantee your safe arrival at merciless act 1.
same for piety merciless. (around 1-4c each? That's small change for your life)

DO install a /oos macro. and bind it to F2 or something (this is the main thing to do at the current state of the game in hardcore)

don't worry about saving your currency for end game gear like you do in standard.. Buy..Buy..Buy everything with as much life (60+ on jewellery/80+ on gear) and resists as your stash will allow.
poe.trade is your best hardcore friend!

Don't rush ahead of zones even if your dps is good. 1 exile will end your life before you know it. always be overleveled for the zones.

Do- Buy a cast when damage taken gem and link it with enduring cry / immortal call/ increased duration. (soon to change)
Do - Run white maps to start with for the first few level ranges.
Do - remember where you came from so you can backtrack safely if mobs are steaming at you!
Do - check online for map boss descriptions/videos/tips

don't open boxes if they contain detonate dead (IT'S NOT WORTH YOUR DEATH/remember desync?)
Don't open boxes that release poison cloud if you have -60 chaos res
Don't open boxes if they contain exiles
Don't stand in the same position for more than 1 second. Keep moving!
Don't kill the last mob of 'spawn of abaxoth' 'living blood' unless you know you can kill the boss.
Don't do these map bosses - torture chamber/Dungeon/graveyard/Orchard
Don't let your guard down. Always check your surrounding and read every mobs description

hope any of this info will help you too! GL Exile

hardcore - defences/life
softcore - DPS/Clearspeed

Played 5 hc characters in total, 3 are dead, 2 were because I was watcing my other screen, 1 was in docks cruel, no desync.
I've had desynch deaths in standard but they are very very rare. I can't understand all these people blaming everything on the game. I understand a DC is the worst death (RIP nugi and LNB), but acting like every death is like DC and desynch is acting like 5 year old.
only people who haven't played enough hardcore or are too n00b / have shitty pc / have shitty net do not understand how the fuck does anyone play hardcore . Seriously this should not even be a question seeing how there are even level 100s in hc leagues. It should be more like , how can i play hardcore

Got to level 50 or so on my first attempt. Desync into a pack of offscreened herald of the obelisk sprinklers. That death was surely my fault!

Second attempt I load up battlefront waypoint and dc out of nowhere (haven't even moved at this point). Been using internet all day so I know it wasn't my connection that was the problem. Log back in, characters in standard.

How anyone enjoys having to worry about shit like this on a constant basis is beyond me.

First step is to accept that kind of shit might happen.

Second is to realise HC is more about your stash than your character. One of the few game modes that actually reward me for being a pack rat.

3rd, playing with friends heavily helps with these issues (if you DC they can protect you etc).

4th is enjoying a much healthier economy and a more tight knit community.

5th is actually trying to balance both offense and defense when you chose your build's, skills and gear. Had some desynch issues this morning too, came close to dying cause of it but thankfully how i built my char allowed me to soak enough damage to avoid it.
It takes patience, vigilance and some luck.
You don't get to LVL90 without ripping a few times.
Nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.
