Chris recently called Evasion "overpowered"

oh god... [Darth Vader]NOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooOOOOOOOOoooo[/Darth Vader]

As someone who enjoys playing evasion and evasion/{nrg shield OR armor} characters (different shadow and duelist builds) - this can lead to nothing that is good.

It's like... "Waite, is there still some way that melee is good? NERF THAT SHIT QUICK!"

Dear GGG, just get it over with - remove any class that is wholly or partially strength based and use the now-removed passives to further beef up Witch/Shadow/Ranger area's.

+1 for OP

Melee is a masochistic frustration, with slow clear speed, rampant desync and lower survivability.

Reactive gems are a joke, lol... Melee doesn't need more DPS, it needs more utility that will counter:

* slow clear speed
* rampant desync issue
* inherent lower survivability

Melee should have at least something on ranged (game-play, combat-wise). It doesn't have anything. (well, it had block. Ty GGG -_-)

E:
What could be done for melee:

* stun immunity (= immune to stun related desync)
* crowd control (snare those stupid avian retches)
* 'spirit walk' movement through mobs without collision (tactical utility that counters desync too)
* etc..

Instead we got PvP oriented DPS gems... puke -_-

for petes sake make melee chars take a "passive" 30% less damage like diablo 3.

I actually like that idea. They could do by applying it as a new game mechanic inherently present on completely melee based skill gems. Skills like Lightning Strike will of course not have the bonus as they are semi-ranged. The clear speed could also be done by removing (or maybe changing) melee splash and just make some passive nodes providing melee splash or make it inherently present on melee skills ... This would not completely fix it, but it would provide an extra socket for your gem setup.
I like many kinds of games 😊

Semi-Ranged? ;)

I think the main problem is that the game cannot recognize if you are melee or not.
A spellcasting witch holding a sceptre and a shield, a RF marauder with RotP and Catalyst, a dagger spectral build... all those would probably get the bonus, too.

i was playing melee without block really well, idk what your problem is.

maybe dont try to facetank EVERYTHING.

besides the fact that this is just another skyforth trashthread, i still have to agree with the clearspeed aspect, but its like that in any game, EXCEPT if the monsters had more hp and you wouldnt have to walk so much to each monster.

this is the difference between d3 and poe (kinda), you need to fight more than 0.5 seconds in d3 on a reasonable difficulty, in poe you dont (which i prefer), its a hack and slay, and therefore monsters should be dominated.

i dont know how you could 'buff' melee rangewise, maybe add some support gem like 'pulse' which essentially works the same as melee splash but only on AoE melee attacks and mechanics like vaal ice nova where it repeats to spread out as it keeps hitting enemies.

but thats it really, the idea of the 30% less damage as marauder is stupid because essentially everyone would play marauder since you could just travel through the skilltree since 30% less damage >>>>>> 20 passive points (random number).

i know some of you guys really relied on block, i can understand that, but you also have to understand that it was insanely broken for the effort it took to get to 75%, but saying its not playable now anymore? woah.. well not that i mind, if nobody plays melee then i can get melee weapons for cheap :)

I did not say anything about basing it on weapon types, as it would bring up exactly those problems you just mentioned ...

Then base it on what exactly?

Let's say, I play an Arc witch with a 4L arc in the +1 gems helmet.
But I'm sneaky and use a 6L Heavy Strike in my Chest (that I never use).
Game sees "Heavy Strike" as my main skill and gives me "30% less damage taken"?

Let's say, I try to build a melee/spell hybrid. Do I deserve the bonus or not?
Let's say, I play a close combat spell build (only spells, but very short range). Do I deserve the bonus or not?

Because melee is fun? bit more of a challenge?
My highest level char is melee and i feel much better playing him than some of the ranged guilds i have...even if they are OP

How about this:
Each hit caused by a melee skill generates a stackable "1% less damage" buff capped at lets say 25%, lasts 6 seconds, each stack refreshes the cooldown, multiple enemies hit generate 1 stack only.

It can be a utility skill too i won't mind.
