Why go melee when ranged does everything better?

what? evasion, as far as i know, has always been entropy based. definitely since i've been playing, which has been for over a year, meaning nothing has changed with armour vs evasion since the game went live with 1.0 when they boosted acrobatics to 40% from 30.
even then evasive builds were strong, but they were not given the time of day. now? it seems like armour builds are not given the time of day. the only thing that has changed is equipment and skill gems. literally.

CWDT i think plays a BIG role in this, since as an evasive defense build you can automatically have your defenses when you need them.

i like the idea of armour having a spell dmg mitigation component attached to it, tho im not sure that will solve anything. you can go armour just as easy ranged as you can melee, its what everybody did before the evasion train because of iron reflexes.

so no i don't think a direct change to armour will solve a damn thing. you either need to straight up boost melee or straight up nerf ranged

Remove IR. Rework armour mitigation. Buff marauder/duelist dmg nodes to give some armour too.

After that, sure, ranger with bow can spec for armour. But. Reflect. Acro+eva better ;)

melee stuns with high physical damage saves you from damage. curse on hit+2 curses of your choice+leapslam to initiate and powerful aoe skill to clear packs. Fun, makes you feel fast and mobile and gives you utility by swapping curses depending on map mods.

You can attach a spell mitigation component as a % of armour, as an effect that only takes hold when hit, and only lasts for a short period.
the problem is not with armour. the problem is with melee. being melee doesn't lock you into armour, nor will buffing armour fix melee in any sense of the argument.
This is very interesting.

Chris once said that evasion is on of the worse mechanics (he) introduced to the game.

And in times of closed beta and some month following it seemed so. No one gave a f*** about EV or ES even. Then slowly but surely GGG reworked and "balanced" mechanic after mechanic. (people might remember the buff to ES oder the IR-mechanic change)

I personally think nowadays AR, EV and ES are pretty good so far and you can use every one of them to play a melee-char. I tried it.

The only one thing that concernes me is that GGG might... might "overdo it" with their game eventually.
PoE is a decent game ever since, but you cannot create the "jack of all trades device" (from a translator, sorry if unsuitable - the german expression is hillarious).
Melee needs you to move, quick, it could even called gamer skill and a form of damage mitigation to manually dodge spells and attacks by movement - but, sadly, game´s not designed for fast moving melee characters (read moving, like using pathing, not porting like flickering).
What can never be lent or earned?
Somewhat, that devours everyone and everything:
A tree that rush. A bird that sings. It eat bones and smite the hardest stones.
Masticate every sword. Shatters every shrine. It defeat mighty kings and carry mountains on lightly wings.

We really wont know until the specifics of the counter attack gems are revealed.

If they proc EVERY TIME, and have no or very little cd (like 0.15 sec) then melee could focus more on defense and still have competitive damage. If it is some garbage like 2+ sec cd, then ya back to funblasters.
pls buff melee/armor GGG.

I want to smash stuff with big weapons and tank heavy damage ;_;

But he desynched because he is playing melee, and swinging his weapon at air.

Main problem with melee in PoE is desynch & mitigation disparity. Melee needs some mitigation that can not be used by ST/Bow/Caster/Summoner builds.

I suggested that many months ago:

Melee Support Gem: Gain %25 damage mitigation for 2 seconds on hit. (at 20/20 gem)

And honestly I thought this *reactive* gems would be like that. But they suck big time.
