Lets discuss how easy it is to RMT in Path of Exile

I know what RMT means. I just have a hard time understanding, why RMT is such a bad thing.

The things I see about RMT which is undesired is:

1. Spam bots
2. Farming bot (that makes the economy unstable)

If the spam bots wasn't there I would not be annoyed by it. The farming bots will lower the RMT prices so much that it actually makes sense for many people to invest money in it (which I think is undesired ofc).

But if the bots were killed off, then it would not destroy my experience with the game. I don't have a problem if a person decides to sit down and grind the game for countless hours to be able to sell gear - I do however have a problem if that gear has been obtained through botting.

Without the bots I don't see how this will affect me at all. I know I'm pretty much alone on that opinion :P And no, I never use RMT my self.

Imagine you're first on the ladder, when both you and the guy in 2nd run out of maps. Irl, he has money and you don't. How do you think the rest of the story goes?

My personal opinion is that p2w is only a problem if you actually win, otherwise it's just p2l and doesn't really harm anyone. But at the end of the day, GGG have their rules, they seem mostly reasonable, so I wouldn't get into that part of it too much.

I can understand, that from a race perspective it can be a problem. On Standard league it shouldn't be that much of a problem though. And people often whine about D3 being p2w. There's nothing to win and you'll probably never meet the person. But the issue is about anarchy/onslaught league, as you don't have time to gather and sell great gear in the small races and standard league has 0 competition.

It is possibly naming and shaming. I would edit it out.

I would send the list to GGG and suggest them to change their naming policy
so they can easily ban suspicious accounts like this.

With the current ToU I imagine they give that accounts the benefit of doubt
until suspicious activity was explicitly detected.

Again, thank you for your immense community effort and constructive threads.
I hope a senior staff member hears you. Request it if you get hung up at Support!

Edit:

Did you share this post with the /r/eddit community?
I can imagine GGG can post there with less restrain
as this official forums here are surely heavier monitored by RMT companies. (?)

Thanks for the kind words. I removed the link and send it to support and also got a reply that says they'll take care of the list.

That is a good idea but I guess I'm late for posting this to reddit as it's currently past midnight in New Zealand.

the problem is

RMT is NEVER gonna go away

its too easy to get away with it

there is no way to prove a trade was RMT

just because some lvl25 guy with 500 exalts in stash gave someone 100 exalts, it does not make it RMT.

devs need concrete evidence to act on it.

haven't you seen EVERY SINGLE GAME that has a currency has RMT nowdays,

ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO STOP IT

THE DISEASE LIES WITH THOSE WHO BUY THE CURRENCY.

if no1 bought it, there would be no market to sell for REAL MONEY.

but since people are willing to pay $$ there will ALWAYS be RMT PERIOD

Its the ugly truth
This topic leaves out one of the biggest offenders to honest play. D2JSP. One only has to go browse the POE trading forum there to see a LOT of pretty recognizable names and or equipment. Then notice that some of those people have in excess of 100,000 forum gold gained from other games. They can easily use that to buy 50-150 exalted orbs depending on league, or thousands of maps. This is exacerbated by the fact that GGG can't/won't take that as proof of rules violation, because someone could simply create an account there with your POE account's name.
Anarchy/Onslaught T shirt
Domination/Nemesis T shirt
Tempest/War Bands T shirt
I've always thought that a way to deal with cheaters like this is to require a $100 deposit to create an account. That $100 would be refunded to you at anytime, or forfeited if you were caught cheating.

RMT companies are not stupid, besides they have way more experience in RMT stuff than GGG thus they came up with solutions long before GGG detects a possible way to harm them.

GGG are rmters themselves =)

Spoiler

Hope you meant the fact that they sell MTX. :D

Thanks for the update, igna.
Let us know if you got more to know from GGG's side.
I am glad to hear that they accepted the list.

I read somewhere in this post (sorry don't remember where) about the possibility of GGG supporting the game with RMT.

I too thought it was a good idea. I would buy currency from GGG to support the game IF GGG made it so it could only be used on the 2 base leagues AND removed the rankings from said base leagues. I won't buy cosmetic transactions but next time stash come up I am gonna buy them as they help me in game by holding more stuff :)

In that way there is nothing to win, nothing to compete for, and just playing for fun.
Crafting doesn't exist in POE. Gambling does...and the house always wins.

Velocireptile - I LOL'ed. Which made me fart. I wish the office were empty right now :(

Hardlicker - I had to push the dog out of the way so I could get to the sexy quilt.
