How to fix the whole Righteous Fire problem

  • Righteous Fire: Now deals 100% of Energy Shield as burning damage per second to self, and stops when you have zero Energy Shield; deals 50% of Energy Shield as burning damage per second to nearby enemies. Cast time to 0.5 seconds, from 1.0.
  • Elemental Adaptation: Now gives +5% maximum fire resistance only, and is renamed Fire Adaptation. A similar notable named Lightning Adaptation is placed in the Shadow/Witch area (replaces 8% Chaos resistance node near Nimbleness), and another named Cold Adaptation is placed in the Duelist/Ranger area (by Blade Barrier).

Ever heard of low-life Spork?

I like how that changes RF into a temporary huge buff to your spellpower that needs to be used with caution. Not sure how I feel about the EA proposed change.

The EA nerf (from 5% all maximum resists to 2%) essentially killed life-based Righteous Fire builds, which existed in the past (especially before Zealot's Oath) despite either relying on Ruby Flasks to restore positive regeneration, or being forced into taking every life regeneration node on the entire skill tree. Restoring the EA slot to 5% max fire resist, at the cost of the other two resistances, would enable ES-heavy, Ruby-dependent, permanent RF builds; the Ruby dependency makes this okay. I don't think it's possible to grab enough life regen to avoid Ruby dependency and still have a viable CI build.

It would actually be easy for life-based characters to keep RF up, so long as they don't get hit; just use a small amount of ES, and use flat life-regen gear such as Coral Amulets. Combined with a solid fire resistance, you'll do just fine as long as you avoid hits.

me like the suggestions
Well, my thoughts about the EA change would mean that characters wishing to take maximum resists nodes purely for monster damage mitigation purposes (not to keep up RF) would be stretched far more across the passive tree. However, it does make sense that nodes should be spread across the tree because only one maximmum resistance node exists and it happens to be right near Marauder and RT (which makes it always worth it for most melee users).

So, what's the problem with doubling of your DPS? And no, I don't use RF, just don't see a problem with such possibility.
