It is not for casual gamers.
It will be fine. Try it before you judge. Etc etc. |

Although I totally disagree with the OP, I was thinking while watching the latest GGG youtube video that it sure would be neat if there was a way to choose from multiple skill-tree versions when you start a new char. i.e. "classic" tree vs. "new tree" etc.
I understand why this is technically a nightmare and will most likely never happen, just thought it would be a cool feature. I too was very skeptical when I saw the new tree but after the dev was done explaining it in detail I realized that GGG had put a lot of thought into the redesign and it was not just dumbed down for casuals. I see it as just more streamlined and easier to parse visually. |

I don't hate the new tree, but some parts of it seem poorly thought out, most notably the templar starting area.

My first thought on seeing the new tree was wow that looks like the old Fisher Price Lite Bright toy.
My second thought about the new skill tree until I actually get to try it out is just how long is it now going to take for a shadow melee class to get to the Blood Magic Keystone. Luke: Sorry we have to leave you here, but it just ain't right to eat your wife's and daughter's brains. Plus you're really disgusting and I don't want to spend anymore time with you.

I still believe they should have made it a sphere (3d skillmap that can be rotated), where the current edges would connect to roughly the opposite sides

I'll continuously suggest that people hold their criticism and condemnation until the patch goes to beta. Remember when the tree went from this to this? If there ever was a tree restructure that limited builds, it was the change from 0.9.2 to 0.9.3. It made most previous cross-class builds impossible. But, guess what? It made the game far better in many ways and ultimately improved build options for characters. The new change is minuscule compared to that.
The sky isn't falling. The game isn't going to implode on itself in a massive ball of unfun. The new tree isn't going to render every old build useless. Nearly every build that the alpha testers have talked about has been recreated successfully in the new tree, albeit slightly differently. Hell, my 2 favorite builds were improved on the new tree. "It doesn't look like that in the game. It has the same subtle colors as the old tree. What was shown in the video was probably an internal dev version that was color-enhanced for some reason. It doesn't really look like Rainbow Brite vomited on it. Closed Beta/Alpha Tester back after a 10-year hiatus.

I like the colors.
It would be nice if there was an option on the skill tree... well several options really: Turn on/off color coding Set Flags/highlight path just realized this needs it's own suggestion topic Regardless, looking forward to the news build ;-) -- Providing opinions since I was old enough to tell my sister she was ugly. |

First off let the tree come out before you trash it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwJuqovp0sE Here Carl from GGG explains the new tree. The idea behind the new tree is to give newbies some idea what options go well with each class while still giving escape routes for people that want explore. They tried to keep as many builds viable as possible. |
