When looking for a shaper statstick, what's the benefit of going Sword? Seems to me it's not able to pull the same DPS boost as Dagger/Scepter unless you get a GG sword with dmg on full life + 2x extra.
You would need a 3 gain mods + pen dagger to beat a 2 gain mods + pen 35% crit multi implicit foil.
This example dagger -
Platinum Kris
50% increased Global Critical Strike Chance (Implicit)
Gain 40% of Physical Damage as Extra Cold Damage
Gain 40% of Physical Damage as Extra Lightning Damage
Gain 20% of Elemental Damage as Extra Chaos Damage
Damage Penetrates 10% Elemental Resistances
+27% to Global Critical Strike Multiplier (Crafted)
would grant me 5.3% more damage than
Apex Rapier
+35% to Global Critical Strike Multiplier (Implicit)
Gain 40% of Physical Damage as Extra Fire Damage
Gain 40% of Physical Damage as Extra Cold Damage
Damage Penetrates 10% Elemental Resistances
+27% to Global Critical Strike Multiplier (Crafted)
If the dagger had 2 gain mods -
Platinum Kris
50% increased Global Critical Strike Chance (Implicit)
Gain 40% of Physical Damage as Extra Cold Damage
Gain 40% of Physical Damage as Extra Lightning Damage
Damage Penetrates 10% Elemental Resistances
+27% to Global Critical Strike Multiplier (Crafted)
or
Platinum Kris
50% increased Global Critical Strike Chance (Implicit)
Gain 40% of Physical Damage as Extra Lightning Damage
Gain 20% of Elemental Damage as Extra Chaos Damage
Damage Penetrates 10% Elemental Resistances
+27% to Global Critical Strike Multiplier (Crafted)
I would lose damage.
The first is a loss of 6.2%, the second is a loss of 4.6%.
A 3 gain mod + pen dagger doesn't exist on Delve softcore. You can purchase a 2 gain mod + pen foil for 10-20 ex.
Any other whirling blades one handed weapon would increase this damage loss.

I'm talking about multi-crafted scepters though.
40% x2, multi crafted Spell dmg/Multiplier/crit chance.
Also, I'm talking from a Shield charge perspective not Whirling blade. Sword outperforms dagger by like 3-5%, but scepters seems to be on par. Just wondering if there's any benefits from going sword instead of scepters.

Sceptres are better than any other one handed weapon because they can roll 4 gain mods max (3 gain mod sceptres are affordable) and their implicits (pen/increased ele damage) are good. If you need any weapon for shield charging, sceptres are your best option.

That was my thought, but almost everyone I see in high delves on poe.ninja are using Sword with shield instead of Scepter. Was wondering if there was any specific reason for that. From my perspective, scepter seems to be more damage for the same price unless you go into the insane prices with the Damage on full life swords and whatnot.

Sceptres are more popular than any other one handed weapon, sceptre + shield is 40%. Daggers are popular because they can roll caster mods. Foils are easier to fossil craft and have a better implicit. All three are good options.

Ahh yeah, I'm searching without Elemental Overload though.
Here's my search result (Depth 600+, no EO) Sword shield, Dagger shield and Dagger mace are 19%, Mace/shield is 10%.

EDIT: Actually changed the search to VBV instead of just normal BV, and it's 22% sword/shield, 6% mace/shield.

1) A sample size of 20 has low significance and there's no reason to ignore non-vaal BV builds. EO ele BV is more popular than non-EO ele BV on the 600+ Delve ladder, if you're looking for the best general BV build, don't look at the Delve ladder - EO ele BV has significantly lower Shaper DPS than non-EO ele BV.
2) Non-EO builds prefer foils because their crit multi implicit can grant the damage increase of a third t3/t2 gain mod at a cheaper cost.

I put it to this low sample size because my goal is to push to 600+ delve for the challenge. Also as for VBV vs BV, I'm not really a fan of not having VBV. The extra damage it brings is very substantial, so I dont really "trust" people's build that's not using it.
I have no intention to do shaper or bosses in general as I have a Zerphi VD PP for that. Would you recommend going the EO version in that case? And on that same topic, why is it I see no MoM + EO builds?

EO is better for delves because you want to scale Inpulsa's explosions to one shot packs. Because the explosion damage is a % of enemies' life, it's as strong at depth 100 as it is at depth 1000 if you can start the 'chain.'
Ele BV's offense is its defense. EO + acro/phase acro demands less investment then MoM and when any hit can one shot you, dodge is stronger than more 'life.'

1) Atziri's Promise (more damage, source of leech).
2) Two better one handed weapons (more damage).

3) A warlord's mark ring (non-flask source of leech, endurance charges).
4) A 6L Inpulsa (more damage).

Fair enough. I think I'll go to toward the EO version in this case. I was a little inclined to go with the Foil in case I wanted to change to Apep's supremacy occultist build later on, but guess I'll just go with a scepter instead.
On that topic, are you a little experienced with the Apep's occultist build? Wondering how it performs compared to the triple herald, considering it's cost is much higher.
Also, I noticed you're using the Self temp chain with HH and Zerphi's heart. Do you feel that's decent for delving? or too squishy due to lack of resists?
