People really need to understand what other people mean when they say "one shot", instead of being a pointless wise-ass.

If you go from full health to 0 in like 100 ms like this poor bastard, then I think most gamers/rational people would simplify it to a "one shot" because I doubt anyone could really do anything but die. Unless you want to call it a soft one shot, in which case it is the same basic idea. You die near instantly, and not always in fair or clear ways. Path of one shots.
problem with categorizing many hits equaling a lot of damage in a small amount of time and calling it one shot, is when people complain about one shots and wish to remove them from the game, they'll include examples like this, which they shouldn't.

dude rolled a shit ton of extra damage and got hit by a bunch of shit all at once. this is avoidable. even if it happened in a fraction of a second, you should kind of expect that kind of damage output and possibility when you're taking 200% damage, standing in degen and trying to essentially facetank.

one shots shouldn't exist. as in you get hit once and it does over 10,000 damage. like volatile mobs. that should be removed. taking 1000 damage 10 times in 0.25 seconds from 5 sources....that shouldn't be removed. that should be anticipated by the player.
He had everything except Arctic Armour which requires 10% reduced mana reservation at least to run Hatred, HoA and main skill on mana.

the difference is a 1 shot that gets through block, dodge, evasion etc is lethal, a phys 1 shot crushes armour. Understanding that virtually nothing actually 1 shots you is important because this was not a 1 shot, most things are not 1 shots, and burst damage like this CAN be vastly reduced through avoidance and damage reductions.

You doubt anyone could do anything but die? Clearly a life based build with strong defenses would have survived that. This is not path of one shots, that was a fair death to burst damage that any number of life based builds with a lot less hp would have survived. His block based Surrender crit sword build from last league would probably have survived that situation. Hes not playing a bad build, he knows the game, hes an expert player, he just came across a situation that this particular build was inadequately equipped to defend against. 8500 life does not automatically = a well defended character that is capable of taking on everything. Theres situations where a hybrid armour + evasion + block or a coil + evasion + dodge character is going to reduce incoming damage by 80-90%, do the math on how much pure life or es youre going to need to survive something that kills those builds in those situations.

Stacking life defends against elemental 1 shots, true 1 shots. This was not a 1 shot, this is an example of burst attack damage that pure life and pure es characters are woefully weak against. People write off defenses that save characters in these situations because they wrongfully claim the game is full of 1 shots that these defenses wont save you from. Its a very important distinction to make.

what do you mean by everything except arctic armour? you mean defensively? He doesnt have block, dodge, evasion, armour, hes not running any defense auras, his fortify isnt up, nothing is blinded, nothing is enfeebled... and he doesnt have arctic armour.

He got bursted down by hybrid attack damage which is exactly the same thing that killed him the last time I saw him die with a kaoms heart life stacking build, which is exactly the same thing I find sketchy as fk when I play kaoms heart life stacking builds. Theres situations where theyre strong, and situations where theyre weak.

Almost definitely Molten Strike by the looks of it. He takes each piece of damage at the same time all the molten strikes seem to land. He's not close to a lot of the orbs, but they probably have a much higher AoE than what's visually shown - if you'll notice, some of the orbs go flying off even past him, so their explosion radius would be pretty high as well. His fortify went down, and he only had 4 END charges up initially (went to 7 mid-death). Molten Strke with that Added Fire mod is primarily fire damage anyway.

Shitty death, but there does appear to be an explanation. Sometimes the stars align in unfortunate ways.

Well I had to rewind it a number of times to figure it out, so I can see how the reaction in real time might have been 'what?'.

It is a type of death that can be avoided by anything not being melee range or at least be CI ES (at least 13k ES). Melee is already a meme along with life in this game. Fuse them together and you create a double whammy ready to get bend over by anything in end game maps. A couple of those mods was asking the character to commit suicide. I can see why he was not suprised, he was prepared to kill his character.






Sometimes you can take the game out of the garage but you can't take the garage out of the game.

Im willing to bet I would have survived that with every melee character I have except my kaoms marauder. I think an evasion dodge melee with 5.5k life has a better chance of surviving that than a 13k es ci.

the map only had 1 damage mod, I think that was a trivial map roll.
