Hard and soft caps on stats

Crit, attack and movement speed, damage, block and resistances all need caps. This would make the game a lot better for all players as top tier players can cap out on all these things while non top tier players can try to reach the cap on at least 1 or 2 of these.

Every ARPG i played so far got a cap. Even Diablo 2 has caps. Why not POE? Why does GGG want to let people run rampant with broken builds for top players and nerf casual players by reducing effectiveness of overused skills?

Balancing in this game works like this right now:

Top players use a skill with a 6L item and beat every boss in a matter of seconds. GGG nerfs said skill and in the process casual players that used the skill alone or with 2 or 3 or so support gems got a build ruined.
Top players move to a newly released OP skill, same thing as above and where do we go from here?

Why would new people pay for this game if they got no option other than either leaving outright because they cant keep a build they like for long or try to become a top player and use only builds GGG allows with those nerfs.

Caps make everyone happy in the long run.

Sorry but what you are asking for can't really exists with the setup PoE has now.

Technically there are soft caps to many of the things you've mentioned, but hard caps are an indication that game devs aren't willing to put forth effort to balance.

Block is capped at 75\75, you can increase it with anvil to 78, but I don't think there is a way to increase it further.

Ele res is capped at 75, again ways you can increase it, most just temporarily or require a significant investment.

Lets address the more important ones:

Crit chance is capped at 95.

Crit multi is uncapped, but you are limited by crit multi due to limited options on the tree\gear, this is a soft cap, essentially.

Movement speed, this doesn't need capped at all, this allows some characters to move faster then others, most characters are fine with 30ms boots or so.

Damage.

You literally can't cap this, like it isn't logical in any form or fashion to say, you know what you can't do more then this per this.

Can't really disagree with this line of thinking...

To be fair though some of the skills that got nerfed were even strong in a 5L. Voltaxic chaos spark is one that comes to mind. Also bladefall trapper this league is pretty strong on a 5L as well...at least strong enough to do 97% of content in the game.

This right here is the quintessential goat response, suitable for any topic whatever.

Crit chance shouldnt even get anywhere near the 100% tho. Put it at 50% cap at most. No wonder those COC builds were broken as all hell.
Crit multi should get some sort of cap too, like put it at 500% or so. Who needs more than to deal 500% of the damage they already deal?

The 50% cap is "essentially" what D3 does and in the end it just means almost everyone builds the same (for DPS, because theres a whole support meta too, but thats another story) Effectively removing the option and differences in the process.

Like wands having super high crit chance, bow and daggers, then other stuff.

The CoC builds are broken because over the course of its introduction it has seen 0 nerfs or really any changes at all. It is being changed\addressed in the next patch.

I don't know what the current "cap" of max is both in legacy (standard) and in the temp leagues, but I suspect that most builds aren't getting that much anyway. Maybe if you are using abbysus+facebreaker with the amulet you are.

D3 is a mess, lets not talk about it. A cap in POE would make sense, especially since we dont have weapon damage affecting spell damage here.

Let me bet, the nerfs are going to hit all the casuals. Top players QQ a bit but move on to the next broken skill setup.

not sure we need a cap with crit chance or multi but when i think of it as a mechanic i think of a low chance to do monster damage not high chance to do large damage.

when crit chance is over 40% it realy stop being something special and becomes another DPM booster, would be much better to greatly reduce crit chance nodes / items but in exchange increace crit multiplier.

They did include a soft cap on damage. It's called reflect. But people keep whining about it so they keep nerfing it.

That is because until recently there hasn't really been a way to deal with it except "do less damage"
