Ascendancy kinda sucks

Really? The Bomb Specialist bonuses are universal with the AoE bonus being particularly intriguing. Chain Reaction is going to be nuts with certain traps that are supported with Multi-Trap and/or Cluster Trap (plus reduced charge time is always great). And Demolitions Specialist makes mines an even faster way to rapidly cast spells. And if you don't want to do both traps & mines, you can grab Explosives Expert which is like a free mini-Added Fire and a mini-Fire/Cold/Lightning Penetration gem added to all of your abilities. Goes really well with High Explosive on the passive tree to give you a whopping 18% elemental penetration on all of your trap & mine abilities.

If anything, I think ascension is really going to open things up. Before, if you were a character who took a lot of passives in two different classes, there wasn't much of a reason to pick one class over the other other than appearance and slight stat optimization. Now, the class you pick can have a major influence on your style. An elemental bow Saboteur or Assassin is going to play very differently than an elemental bow Deadeye or Raider.

The ascendancy classes really show how little people actually read and they just expect everything to be handed to them in a nice platter.

It makes sense I guess since most of the people who complain are the type to sheep behind a streamer or well known theorycrafter build because "muh efficiency" while they can't even theorycraft their own build.

They take it at face value for its theme not it's verbiage.

I was on the same boat as you, i always want to make viable melee witches and think the game doesnt cater enough to them, but i am looking at the summoner ascendency class and now i am thinking:

"Damn, dominating blow witch. I'll be damned thats awesome."

I'm looking forward to making a melee Witch that uses the Offering spells for Defensive/Offensive self-Boost, endurance charges, & Zomboids for the % mitigation.

I am thinking high(ish, because all you need is some ~40% to cap out with bone offering) block elemental damage dominating blow (ele damage auras). No zombies because thats just.. more clutter on the screen.

Fuuny that people think it will be restrictive. Here I sit with only what we know so far and I already can't decide how I want to build my next archer. The permanent fortify would help me stay alive, the additional arrow along with a corrupted +1 arrow quiver would give me free LMP and the power charge generation on non crits and base crit per power charge would give me a lot more crits and status ailment. I want them all and having to choose just one is a difficult decision for me.

You want a elemental bow character. Great. Play one. You're just pissed that it doesn't look like a Shadow. Get over it.

you can still have freedom to make hipster builds, but for each class, there will be a slight difference. what we have right now are previews; play it first when it comes out, then give your honest feedback.
