1 example of why PoE is very 'new player' UNfriendly
Took me like 1 hour to get back into the game after 12 months+. 1 hour youtube guides and you know almost everything about PoE. I wonder why some people play 7 days+ and still dont understand 90% of the game, there are so many "good" and understandable guides everywhere.
I like the fact that there is no ingame tutorial following you for 30 lvl. ingame tutorials are the most annoying part of every single pc game. 7777777777777777777777777777777777777777

Eh, a lot of things you can figure out just by playing, trial and error.
Things I needed to look up were vendor recipes, amount of sockets items could have. Some of the support gems don't work as advertised or are kind of vague as to how they function. But you put them in, try out the skills, see how it goes. Some of the interactions of unique item properties with skills are confusing. Overall though it's not that newbie unfriendly "When you have a hammer, everything looks like a nail."

" The mechanics you are talking about are things that new players don't need to know. azoriuss explained the basics because that is all that someone new to PoE needs to know. |

I think at most the tooltips should be expanded to say something like, "You can use currency on this strongbox." I can understand how that is not obvious. Coming from other old school ARPGs myself, I still would never have guessed that I could use my currency on anything other then the equippeable items in my stash and inventory. It blew my mind when someone pointed out that I could use Alch orbs on maps.
Otherwise I don't see what a tutorial would accomplish, and based on what GGG devs have said, they don't intend to make the game anymore clear cut, they want players to figure things out for themselves and use the tools the game does give you. |

I enjoy reading wikis and shit, but a game should never make you go there. If you CAn't learn something ingame its no more "exploration", because then you only explore the Wikis.
I am sure this game is really frustrating and bad at keeping new players who don't get introduced and helped by a friend. Dernière édition par Lichtbringer_I#5684, le 11 août 2015 à 23:43:19

I am a new player and just started 4 days ago and already have a level 41 dual wield Shadow now. Just "pop" in to let everyone know that I learned something new from this thread which is wisdom scroll can be used on strongbox. While POE is not newbie friendly, all the information relating to the game can be found on the internet. I am still learning how to play this game and enjoyed game a lot. Really like the hideout feature a lot. This is the true D2 "sequel" compared to D3. D2 veterans like me will really enjoy this game. I just wish I discover this game much earlier.

Should have seen me on my first day in PoE, running around in "the coast" looking for them town portals :/
"party : take the town portal for the medicine chest" "me : give me some time i'm looking for them" 10 minutes later "you have been kicked from the party" =/ Arguably the game was a lot less "messy" back then without as many additional features as it has today. (ghosts, boxes, exiles etc) Peace, -Boem- edit : i should note, i was extremely pleased when i eventually found out the town portals where located in the town.(i had no idea i had already visited the "major" act1 town :D) Ha after rereading that i got a good chuckle out of it, that's awfully stupid in hindsight with what i know now, pretty sure we all pass that stage. " totally wrong ... this game is a hardcore game, I dont like the term but anyway this game wants u to be creative ... u didnt know strngboxes react on scrools and items like any other Quality rated object in the game .. its surly not the games fault u couldnt draw the right conections in ur mind everything in this game works like that, a tiny set of inital Information can lead to a hundred different results and circumstances, based on what U will make with that ionformation ... the game does not rely on the gamewikis on the net, the wiki just give u the accumulated informations gathered by players over the years everytime u feel like a mandatory Information is Held back by the game from u, guess what ... its called a secret ... the goal of the game is to build the best caracter of them all ... so every Information that gives u an Advantage to that is valuable ... PoE is designed to be, and intended to be a HARDCORE game. Every single little mechanic, interaction, and feature in the game does not need to be explained via tutorials, tooltips, and help screens. In PoE, the player is meant to explore, discover, and experiment, through which the player learns over time how the mechanics and features work. Again this is INTENTIONAL and by design.
When you go to a Buffet, is there a tutorial and explanation for what every single dish is, tastes like, and how to eat it? Is there a waiter there feeding you bite size portions of everything on a plastic safety spoon and telling you the history of each dish so you can try them in a safe informative environment? No. You are meant to explore, try different options, and learn by immersing yourself and experiencing new things. GGG, or at least Chris, seems really interested in game mechanics that force players to interact. I say this because he kept asking about information sharing for tempests on maps when the league started. I feel like the true vision for poe would be a game so difficult, complex, and opaque that you'd be forced to party, trade, and collaborate in order to even remotely progress, like d3 vanilla inferno starting on normal coast. I'm sad that game wouldn't be financially viable.
Had a very similar thing to the op's situation happen in my guild party last night. Our newest member put cwdt ic incdur in to a moonbender's dream (grants level1 lightning warp) and was getting teleported around. When we figured out what was going on we all had a good laugh rather than have a tantrum on the forum because our hand wasn't held. I guess it is a generational thing. I really don't get the attitude of expecting to be told everything upfront rather than figure it out. When I kill a man he stays dead.
