1 example of why PoE is very 'new player' UNfriendly
There are plenty of guides for this game, but they lack advertisement. If you want them you will need to look for them, and I think that when you start this game this should be the other way, guides should come at you. You start the game and BAAMMM you get a list of guides about this, this, how to start, what to be aware of as a new player, etc...
A lot of the game can indeed be figured out without a guide, but there is so much that most of the time new players don't know where to start and what to focus on. About the Broken Crown, since you can equipe it, you have already a few hours of gameplay, so you are not a total new player to the game. You made a mistake that you could have avoided by taking 2min to look at the benefits/disavantages of this unique. You will not find a guide about this, this is too specific and it is just about taking the time to read and see what a unique does. You can use fire trap in it because a trap is not a spell. A trap is an entity that will cast a spell when its triggered. You throw the trap and then the trap casts the spell for you. But its alright, don't worry. Everybody makes mistake in this game, I did too. My first characters where total shit, and now, after a few years in this game, I'm able to make my own unique build from scratch, plan everything, do the maths, etc... And finaly level it, gear it, and be suprised it performs exactly like I wanted, and even better, it can clean any content and face tank anything without dying (even chaos double ghosted Lady Stormflay in 78 Precinct) - Dernière édition par Zybeline2#7822, le 10 août 2015 à 04:52:01

Thanks for all replies! And also its good to see I am not the only one frustrated about the issue.
About why Firetrap works and why Freezing Pulse doesnt (spell tag); does not make sense to me, both FT and FP has the keyword SPELL, not only FP. No wonder this game is a hardcore game for the few. If GGG wants this game to attract and KEEP more players, they need to do something about it to make it A LOT easier to understand. Another question; can anyone tell me which type of gems I can put into the Crown, and still can be cast, so I can draw the benefit of the stats on this crown? I do not care about the Cast on Death part, I care about the rest of the bonuses (need chaos resists desperately!). And I NEED all my item slots for skills, I cannot just have Cast on Death on the whole helm, losing 4 active gem slots. |

Auras/heralds. Maybe AA/BR.
And worst change is putting almost all bosses in new version of maps into fucking small areas, where you can't kite well or dodge stuff. What a terrible idiot invented that I want say to him: dude flick you, seriously flick you very much.

I am a newb.
I have come to a level 82 marauder. I have found no EXA's. I have 3 stash tabs full of pretty good gears that I cant sell. 2 x lioneyes that have a little better than avg rolls. I am running 69 maps no probs. 70 Maps can be an issue depends on boss. Clearly you need to run LVL 75 maps to get items that will attract a buyer. There is probably 10 to 10 levels of just grinding low level maps to get into a position to run a level 75 map and then theres no guarantee that a belly will fall?. The rarity of currency versus the cost of anything half decent is astonishing. I have spent 120 Fuses trying to 5l my Marohi to no avail. but you need 2 EX to buy one and Like i said none have dropped. I believe I have 2 EX worth of goods but cant sell it. I dont want to sit there and spam all day and just piss everyone off. I really believe that an Auction House will bring the price of items closer to the actual value of items. I shouldnt have to put as much effort into selling that nice leather belt I have with the great stats as I do in earning my actual income. theres something wrong going on there. B |

" You can't just look at one Keyword and be done with it. Fire Trap has also the Keyword Trap. So as Zybeline said correctly, Fire Trap is an entity that casts a Spell (opposed to direct Spells, which come out of your characters hands). Simple as that. CoD = You cast it when you die, not when you are alive, Trap-Spells are never cast by you but by a Trap, so they don't mess with CoD. Try at least to understand it. There are just many mechanics in this game and imo GGG does a good job in making it approachable for everyone. I of course can't judge it objectively anymore, but it at least all makes sense. " I wish them a lot of success, but I couldn't play this game anymore if it would go (more) into spoon-fed-mode. I don't see the problem. Probably a thing of player mentality. I was always addicted in reading forums about the games I played and learning its mechanics. One shouldn't just judge and say "That's too difficult for me, it is wrong, they should change it." It just appeals to another type of player. Yes, they could open the game up for more people by changing small things, but this again could affect people who enjoy it as it is. ;) IGN: Scordalia_ Dernière édition par Caliginosus#5444, le 10 août 2015 à 08:33:35

There's been a movement that makes the same claim about Calculus. We need to make it more "new player friendly". It's too hard to understand.
What we end up with is books that train people to act as if they understand calculus. They can do the problems. They can do anything that you tell them to do, provided that you tell them in exactly the same way the book told them that you would. But they have next to zero understanding of what they're doing. Same thing here. It's complex and you get to learn it... or you can fake it and copy someone else. But if you choose to fake it, you'll find that there are issues which are clear to others that you have no idea were even there. Quit faking it. Learn the mechanics of the game and stuff like this wont be a problem. Trying to make it "new player friendly" is the problem. |

" That's the inherent flaw of all videos - the information density is abysmally low, compared to a well-written guide (text, maybe some screenshots or diagrams/graphs to help get the point across). The problem is that it's hard to monetize an article, compared to a youtube video. The more you depend on forces outside yourself, the more you are dominated by them.

GGG could quite easily make a beginners league (or a UI option, on by default) with guided tutorials (arrows, pop-up text bubbles, audio explanations, etc) to walk players through various concepts/ mechanics, along with a few pre-set build paths. Even newer ARPGs like Victor Vran walk players through new game concepts as they are introduced. I expected PoE to have something like that by now. Those sort of missing little details make PoE still feel like a beta.
Edit: They'd probably best do it via a separate tutorial area/league, where they could give the player currency and demonstrate its use. Much easier to script that way too, since layouts, monsters, strongboxes, etc. could be static instead of randomly generated. Saying a game is complex / geared toward an expert audience is no excuse not to have proper tutorials. Heck, even dungeons and dragons online has them. Never underestimate what the mod community can do for PoE if you sell an offline client. Dernière édition par Vhlad#6794, le 11 août 2015 à 12:34:29
