Kripparrian is playing poe!!!!
" Just because he is a diamond supporter doesn't mean he cannot have an opinion of his own. As for GGG and Charan, agreeing with you doesn't give them good sense anymore then disagreeing means that they are idiots. You got a pretty narrow view there. " How is PoE meant for "mature" people more so then Diablo III or Guild Wars 2 I wonder? Because it's got a "darker" feel? Because it's got more complex mechanics? Because it's very rough user interface and RNG mechanics require lots of PATIENCE to endure through the steep learning curve? Yeah... This IS about turf wars. Lumping imaginary enemies in a bag and then elevating yourself above the rest. The "turf" mentality was already displayed in ridiculous topics like "can we beta players have our own forums?" Imagining that somehow a collective "we" (the beta players) have something different from "them". People in Hardcore used to feel like they had a small community going on and used chat like they owned it. And now they don't own chat anymore, and they aren't special anymore, boohoo. Before Kripparian it was Diablo III players which were the greatest evil on the forums. After Kripparian it will be the open beta players. Yada yada. PS: If you're that concerned about socially immature players then go play EverQuest II or some other MMO with guilds and guild halls that act as walled garden communities. You'll love it. I cannot decide who is more embarassing, the haters or the fanboys.
Who cares about this person? I personally am here to play a game, not to have debates about some random gamer. Also, it is pretty much a proven fact that 99% of art and cultural products that reach mainstream become corrupted. That has something to do with the goal being different between making an indie product and a commercial blockbuster. Just throwing words like marketing or advertising departments out there to let you know what I am on about. They break down products to the most common denominator since the target audience isn't able to proccess anything else (and does not want to either). |

" I'm not disagreeing here but gotta say that there more here then turf wars. Personally this is more of a neighborhood going to shit since that new mall opened next door kinda thing |

" I was never making an argument in comparison to Diablo 3 or Guild Wars 2. " It still isn't about turf. The people attempting to make those arguments with those threads don't understand the real issue, which is a social issue, not a property one. Again, you're filling your argument here with jabs. " Again, those individuals don't understand the real issue. They took the easy road and just lump summed everyone into those groups. " I was never concerned with it, I was able to analyze the real issue and acknowledge that it existed. I clearly stated I wasn't going to be involved in delving deeper into the intricacies of the social issue because it is pointless and has been argued by more dedicated and intelligent people than myself. Again, even if I was that type of individual I would get nowhere. This issue can only be solved by community management. I don't think you understand. Again with more jabs. ". Lol. Wow. For one, I had HC a toon, she died today at lvl 30. To being frozen. Something that I could have easily exited out of the game in order to save her, but I except the fact that it was my fault and let her die. I did not quit the game like a coward to save my pixels. Sorry I didn't use my mighty alf-f4 skills to CHEAT death. I play HC here and there, and what difference does it make if my default toon is a witch? I've always liked using spells and being a caster in every game. There is NO DENYING that QUITTING a game to save your toon is NOT HC. And if I'm not mistaken, he did it twice if I read the post correctly from earlier. Further, even in his own post he recognized the fact that he was getting owned and shouldn't have been playing that map. Yet he continued to do so. To be able to bypass the consequences of HC mode (permadeath), completely makes the league null. And the rules are not "made up in my mind" lol. It's a game, relax. The fact of the matter is that his toon should have perished. Anyone who does this is OBVIOUSLY not very HC. There really should be a 3-sec server side timer in order to prevent this type of yellow bellied cowardice in HC mode IMHO. Don't really care about default rules to be honest. I think the 15% penalty for death is fine. P.S. Kripp, you're an exploiter at heart, personally, I'm fine with that. You like to break games and find the path of least resistance no matter what. Cool, it's fun to do. Further, this usually helps bring these issues to light for others. And remember everyone. This is a Closed Beta, we're here to find bugs and issues and report them to GGG. This is what I've been doing, and you should be too. |

" I tend to agree with this one. Definitely not a turf war, and thank goodness for that. I mean, it's been kept to one thread. I'm actually really glad about that too. You can say all you want about pro-Kripparrian posters and anti-, but both sides have had the decency to keep it to this one thread instead of turning the entire board or forum into a battleground. Even when you disagree with each other, even when it's quite volatile, you're a pretty good community in my eyes. I take a look at HC chat now and then and really haven't seen a significant degradation in quality other than what I'd expect from the recent population explosion -- and while Kripparrian did 'bring' lots of new people, he didn't bring everyone who came with the last Open weekend, or the people who keep coming. I sort of pity the dude, because there is some coincidence at play here: the game is getting bigger and with that increase is size, in playerbase, there is a likelihood in the absolute increase in 'unpleasant' people, if not necessarily a percentile one. That would have happened with or without Kripparrian's involvement. I genuinely believe that. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.
I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period. |

" Nope, again you make your own rules. If I press ALT-F4 and the game closes, and my character wasn't kept in the game instance for a minute or something, that means it's allowed. Where is the contractual obligation not to exit the game when you are in difficulty? I didn't sign one, did you? You have to be on your toes all the time in HC. It was literally a life-saver for me in Diablo 2 (haha), and if I didn't train to hit Save & Exit on time, if I wasn't on my toes, my "Tankazon" would never have made it to 94. I think that's what Kripp referred to: as in Diablo 2, there are instances where you can't move or you can't go back. One could consider these unfair, which again would be a personal rule: this unfair, this not unfair. It simply is what it is in the game, at the moment. The game developers didn't purposely enforce rules that make "save & exit" unreliable in Hardcore. Therefore there are no ethics or personal agenda to answer to. If you didn't use it, my hunch is you didn't think about using it on time, or didn't train yourself for this "emergency" tactic. If you set your own rules that you don't want to use "save & exit", then it is no different than the Skyrim players who set themselves rules like "no map teleport" to make the gameplay more "immersive". Again, they are self-made rules. When/if GGG adds a five seconds timer before removing the player from the instance, then it will be much less reliable. That day hasn't come yet. Either way it's down to your skills and wits to avoid losing a character. You choose, by your own interpretation that it's more fitting "hardcore" gameplay to lose your character. I would personally choose to save my character by all means, because it's a lot of time invested and I consider being able to think and react quickly to save & exit is part of the necessary skill set. " To summarize I would say Hardcore game mode is the permanent loss of your playable character in that League (skipping the "soft death" debate here...) if you din't have the skills or knowledge NOT to die. It's that simple. If Alt-F4 is part of the available options NOT to die, then you use it. That's how you succeed at HC. From my experience with a 94 melee-zon in Diablo 2, to me Hardcore required ruthless discipline about what to do and what not to do. It was a lot about prediction and anticipation, which requires lots of experience with the game, and smarts. Wits take your further in Hardcore than brawns, hence ideas about virility and "manning up" have nothing to do with the game mode. Furthermore, to me it's simply down to the imperfect medium: latency and connection issues means that you never have a completely fair game. So looking for the absolute "fairest" way of playing HC is pointless. |

I don't understand all this purist drivel. What's hardcore for you, may not be hardcore for others. I know if I was in a similar situation, having invested nearly 7 days of real time into a single character and that was at risk of dying due to my own carelessness, lag, a glitch, etc, I'd do the same thing. If I couldn't pull it off in time, I'd probably be a little pissy for a few minutes, shrug it off and make a new hardcore.
I bet most people have a progression point, where if they get to X progression, they'll do whatever it takes to save their character to remain hardcore. I'm not sure if it's true or not, but Krip stated it was the only time he ever logged out to avoid a potential death. I'm sure there are plenty of people who do it at level 10.... |
