Agreed, I think there is a lot of hipsters wanting this game to stay on the DL so they can continue to see this game as theirs somehow. The thing is, a lot of us really like this game, and we fear change.

I have a question, though. After the cut throat event you guys suggested to Chris that there be more of an indicator of enemies on screen, as it was confusing at times. Do you think over time your eye would be more trained to pick up the red/green mouseover, and your teammates armor? I really like the clean interface (lack of floating combat text as well) and would hate to have to start turning on a bunch of clutter to even the playing field.

I'm still not that savvy to the term 'hipster' in most contexts. Wannabe? Retro-freak? Anyway, I do believe anyone who can claim nostalgia rather than retro-love is beyond the definition. I think the 'fear' you're talking about is fairly ingrained in what's happened to Everyone's Favourite ARPG Series. Another topic, another time.

At the heart of it, whatever brings more supporters, I support.

About your question -- there have been a few threads about this lately. I asked Chris and he said that some form of differentiation between friend and foe is 'on the list', but it likely won't be red/green borders. Thankfully.
And they said *I* was bad at PoE. At least I made it out of act 1 and know how to use the /dnd function. El oh fucking el.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.
I've been looking for something like D2 for a long time, but I wouldn't have found PoE if Kripparrian hadn't brought it to my attention. It's easy to overlook non-AAA titles, unless you know where to look for them. Now I only wish I had heard of PoE a few months earlier, since there were a lot of key giveaways.

If popular gamers can spread the word and get other gamers interested, that's fantastic. Kripparrian seems to enjoy the game a lot and that's what it's all about after all.
Been watching Kripp stream this game. Just bought a Beta key. Can't wait to play it. :)

another video by krip about itemization.

I guess he will put out more and more videos over the time now about PoE, which is awesome I think.

I read through the first 16 pages of this thread until I got to this quote. I do not follow Kripp and honestly have only ever watched that one video of his. I have no opinion on streamers or their followers or Kripp for that matter.

My reason for posting is simple. After seeing this video about itemization I came to this website. I spent an entire evening reading through just hundreds of posts/threads. I looked at the skill tree, I looked at the class choices. I decided I just had to play this game.

I talked my husband into letting me donate for a beta key. One day later he decided he needed one too.

We are loving this game.

My point is really that publicity is a good thing. I understand that many of you may be weary over the sort of person you are reaching, but word of mouth spreads like a spiderweb. In all seriousness I am pretty sure my husband has never heard of Kripp.

Give this person a cookie, please.
If you watch Krip's stream, then chances are you've heard me on it, I am Ash.
We stream games that we enjoy playing and we tell our viewers what WE think about the game and if we like it or not. We try to be honest about the good & the bad.
Each and every person that watches has to make the decision for him or herself if the game is something they'd want to invest time and money into.
We have different approaches to said goal as well, Krip does about 80% gameplay and 20% viewer interaction, while I do about 80% interaction and 20% playing, but the end-result is still the same: Quite a lot of people who have never heard of PoE previously get sucked into it by how much depth the game has and more-so by the positively awesome attitude of it's developers, embodied in Chris when he comes on our Mumble.
Publicity in any form is good, word of mouth travels much farther than any kind of PR campaign.

It doesn't matter if you like Kripp, or myself or any other streamer.
What does matter is if you like Path Of Exile and you want this game to succeed, then you should support the people who try to promote this game to a wider audience, not criticize them.

Dude you sound like Chris Wilson. Everyone on Kripps stream confuses between you and Chris whenever you are both on mumble.

Ash sounds nothing like Chris Wilson, right? Chris has a NZ accent, Ash sounds European (unless I am wrong about who Ash is).

I am a big fan of Kripparian; I watched him play D3 but then I got bored of it. After watching his PoE videos I bought a beta key and started watching his stream again. I like the developer perspective when Chris is on the stream, but more often Kripp seems to be just playing by himself.

His D3 stream was very entertaining; most of his friends were funny and intelligent people. Unfortunately they are not playing PoE for the most part and it is very boring to watch 1 guy play a video game in silence.

I saw screenshots and a few videos of PoE 4 or 5 months ago, but because it looked just like a higher resolution D2 I didn't really see the point. Why not just play D2 again if I like it so much? However, like the previous poster it was Kripp's videos that really explained to me the strengths and unique qualities of PoE in ways that other press/media had not.

Because I consider myself a Kripp "fan", I actually am much more excited about the possibility of following him playing PoE vice D3, because this game has a ladder and high level competition. I could never ever win a 2 week ladder because I can't play video games 12 hours a day. Guys like Kripp, Kungen, Athene and others who play for a living CAN, and being able to watch them and root for one or the other makes the top page of the ladder seem a little bit more real.

TLDR: I like Kripp, I like PoE, I hope he keeps streaming it, and I hope he gets more colorful characters on his stream and livens things up again.

disclaimer: I only read the first few and the last few pages of this thread.

There are Races planned with a maximum of playtime, like e.g. a 2 Week HC Ladder Race but with a maximum of 30H Playtime.

There will be dozen different Ladders and some will be more suitable for casual Gamers.

Does anyone know what gems he's using on his Mace Marauder?
its going to bring a lot of attention to the game
Chris was was on Kripps stream earlier today. Who is interested in their conversation and Q&A can watch the recording of the stream later today on his twitch page.
Chris is on Kripp's stream too much for me to keep updating the links in the 'interview' sticky, so I'm going to chalk it up to 'hanging out and drumming up support' as opposed to a structured Dev interview...

But that should not in any way dissuade anyone from tuning in. You never know when Chris will let a juicy morsel of future info slip....:)
